I feel like I go through the stages of grief when I realize I am going to be riding in the rain. Denial, telling myself maybe I will get lucky and only get a little sprinkle. Anger, that I will have to make a compromise and wear some rain gear or bring a change of clothes and plan to find a dryer for my boots. Bargaining with myself about maybe not riding and calling off work or taking the car. Depression that its going to be a bad day. And then acceptance that the rain doesn't feel that bad. Good luck with your next bike, you deserve it.

From having done some therapy when sh*t was going sideways, I've learned that most of the time, the one with personal problems mainly needs an ear. Advice given, most of the time, won't be taken. One-liner advice are the worse ("just gotta take it one day at a time" -- "oh, please shut up"). But an emotion expressed is a relief for one's mind. I've learned that telling a similar experience you've been through, how you reacted, and what the results were (positive, or negative, or neutral). It makes people feel less alone in their problems, and just that can be reassuring. Makes them feel more normal to be living through some tough times. The trick is, the emptying of the heart must be do to the right person, with the right words, at the right time. I actually told a friend yesterday I'd listen to them another day as I wasn't ready to listen to them at that time. Aurora (the singer) said it best in her song "The River": "You can cry [...], Do you miss the sadness when it's gone?" After you've expressed feelings, you tend to feel good, because the feeling is no longer bottled up, boiling, and waiting to explode. As for professional therapists themselves, I've encountered 2 kinds. Pop-Psychologists with tips and homework that typically fail to do anything and cost too much. My sister has had one giving her Buddhist Mandalas in a colouring book asking her to complete 5 of them during the week, telling her it should help her calm down. The problem is that homework and a short time to do a meditative exercise with a deadline, is actually more stressful. Also, Buddhist will sandpaint the Mandalas over the course of days or weeks, as part of a meditative practice, and then brush away the results of their painstaking work to symbolize the unimportance of it in one's life. A thing which pop-psychologist don't think about with their colouring books. Disconnecting from the end result, concentrating on the journey that brought them there, and letting go of it as not important for what is to come. And then there are good psychologists, those that help you discover things about yourself... by yourself. Things have more weight and impact when self-realized. They are more there to ask questions to keep you thinking and talking. Expressing things often helps you mind sort things out. My favourite mental health tool I've been using for about a decade... I don't know it's name, but I talk about it in one of my videos. It's all about the feeling of control (and knowing what you can and cannot control) and about perception (which you can control). - Step 1: (no control) Something happens in life. - Step 2: (control) You have a choice of what you tell yourself. - Step 3: (no control) From what you tell yourself, you will have an associated emotion. - Step 3: (control) From that emotion, you have a choice of reactions, of what you will do or abstain from doing. - Step 4: (control) You act upon that reactions, meaning you actually do what you're telling yourself you're gonna do. - Step 5: (no control) Consequences, others react or not to you, good or bad things result from you're reaction. - Step 6: (control) And this is the important step... retrospect. Look back at the sequence of events, dig deeper inside you to identify your words-to-yourself, emotions, reaction, etc. If the results were mostly negative, look at the things on which you do have control. Maybe you need to try to tell yourself something else to get a different emotion. Maybe your reaction is off-kilter and needs adjustment. This exercise needs to be frequent, and it will be difficult to take control over the things you can control. After a certain age (~27), our brains are hard-wired and programmed for life, so practice will help hack it and re-wire it. Gotta get out of the comfort zone. Gotta force yourself to do things you do normally do. Finally, adjusting what you tell yourself to get a different emotion is a way to adjust your perception on life. Perception if the lens filter we put on to view the world around us (cognitive dissonance). If your filter is negative (Step 2), everything that follows is affected (Step 3s to 5). The more you practice changing this, the more your perception of life will improve. ~~ Everything you've done and lived through has made the person you are today. You may not like certain things from your past, but there's nothing you can do about that. The only thing you have control over is what you do from this point forward. To paraphrase Gandhi, be the change you want to see in yourself. ~~ Sorry about this long-winded comment.😅 Mental health is an issue of importance to me, so I tend to empty my heart out about it.❤‍🩹 Take care!🛵👍 EDIT: Cool intro! LOL!

I have no problem with people telling me their problems, which many people do, but here is my thing. If you ask for my opinion about what to do and then you don't do it, then f don't come back crying when your life is still f' up. Also, and this is particularly true of women in my life, don't come to me telling me a list of your problems and expect me not to come up with ways to help you fix it. If you just want to vent, there are 900 numbers for that and they charge for a reason.
