Hi!
We all enjoy messing around with our RC cars, but what about maintenance? By that I mean servicing them before they break! And decking them to the rafters with mods and upgrades? Heck yes! By the way, you can get 5% off your parts by clicking the link below and using the coupon code RCWB110.
Servicing an RC car is a part of ownership which should never be underestimated. The good ones are often expensive right out the box, so using them properly and caring for them will get many years of use out of them!
I wish to entertain you with some proper wrenching on the 'bench and give you tips and tricks, but also the confidence you might need to tackle a job by yourself.
During the day, I am the workshop manager of a classic car servicing company. I have extensive mechanical knowledge and understanding, which makes developing upgrades for RC cars a lot of fun!
I hope you will enjoy watching my videos! Stay in touch!

Great movie and great job with the car. 🔥
Thank you! It was a lot of fun!
truly inspring to rebuild my RC THANK YOU! May I ask why we should lubricate our tyres
It makes fitting so much easier. The bead lock ring just slips on and settles into place with ease.
I’m also growing my channel. This was a very entertaining and very informative video. I agree about the chassis plate fitment could have been much better. It appears there are a few guys out there machining these parts some better than others I presume. Mine seemed off by a bit as well but went in fine. I love what you did with the rear axle. Looks fantastic. Are you getting any sand inside? I added a bead of grease on the seams on my stock rear axle and also lightly packed the axle ends with grease. I didn’t fill it all the way as I believe that could be worse. I’ve yet to take it out on sand to see if it helped so hopefully it will. My rear driver shock leaked out the box. I ordered a double seal kit for all shocks and I’m also gonna get some shock socks like yours. I also have the same rotors you have. Or at least they look identical. Lastly (for now) I added an ESS dual sound system. I thought it was gonna be silly but it sounds awesome. This truck falls into that kind of scale stuff. I really love this truck. 😊
Hi! Great to get acquainted with other creators! The rear axle is insanely effective. It quickly developed an oil leak, so improved the design and fixed it completely. Now it is completely tight, and nothing gets in or out. I drain it every other run to renew the oil. It's a bit more maintenance, but then again, the whole rig deserves close attention in that respect. Well, at least I maintain it to a very high standard, as I am strongly mechanically inclined (pro mechanic by trade). The shock socks are really good at keeping grit away, I am quite certain they will extend the life of the shafts and seals. It really is a fun truck to own, drive and maintain. Stay in touch! 🙂
Amazing build and attention to detail
Thank you!
Too fun, been scouting some new locations! Great footage
Thank you! Have fun out there!
What did you install for your lower trailing arms, brand , and what brand are your beadlock rims ?
Hi. The links to all the parts are in the description. The wheels are no longer in stock, but I am sure that a quick search on the web will reveal a shop who has them.
You don't want aluminum front arms. I've seen so many of them broken I can't imagine dealing with bent arms and breaking the pins and bulkheads from aluminum arms.
Absolutely. A bit of flew is welcome, in hindsight, and this is provided masterfully by the original parts.
Honest and informative review. I guess the people who gave rave reviews for parts that are really good enough for what you pay are dubious.
Thanks JoskMclaren, I try my best to put useful information out there. Glad it helps. :-)

@@rcwb110 no problem, keep up the great content
Great work! Looking forward to your channel growth! The limited slip via grease slips with more rpm and acts like an open diff as the higher rpm overcomes the grease resistance, at this scale a real limited slip and clutch pack seems possible! How long did the shrink tube last, the torque of the nut really jams the pins deep inside the hex, so it may last a while?
Thank you for your support, it is highly appreciated! Shrink tube is still going strong. Hasn't moved yet. It can easily be renewed if it fails, however. And the limited slip with 20.000.000 silicone seems to hold up its promises so far. I am quite happy with it. I haven't touched the front yet, still testing as it is.
I have the Maxx Slash 6s and just got the Mojave 6s. I'm looking at the UDR just for the scale aspect. I think I'll focus on upgrading my other two before I jump on the UDR.
Oh wow! I've been eyballing the Maxx Slash as soon as Traxxas made the announcement, but since I had just bought the UDR and spent a good deal on upgrades, I shelved the project of acquiring one for later on in life. That being said, I waited a good five years before getting the UDR... I love the scale aspect of it. Some people complain about it being unreliable simply because they bash the crap out of it. It isn't an basher, it is genuinely a scaled down desert racer, you need to drive it accordingly. As I live for anything mechanical, I have huge respect for anything assembled with rotating parts. With a bit of tweaking, this UDR provides enormous amounts of fun, if you can appreciate the finesse with which it has been designed. But definitely upgrade your Mojave and Maxx Slash to the rafters! Have fun!
@@rcwb110 Being that you are a person of knowledge, can you tell me how much going from today's modern composites to alloy of sorts truely adds to my daily performance and reliability? I have beat the absolute crap out of my Maxx Slash and Mojave 6s. Both stock, both no issues. Granted, I do want to upgrade electronics, but, other than the cool factor, it doesn't seem that I need to.
There are many schools of though in that regard, but I would say that it depends on the application. I chose an alloy rear axle to improve rigidity for example, as the original axle flexes quite a bit. Less flex gives better control. However, flex can be desirable in some areas, as it absorbs shocks pretty well by deforming the composite part, instead of bending or breaking if it were alloy. Like suspension arms for example. I am glad that the alloy ones I initially planned to fit on the front of my UDR were so badly manufactured that I didn't fit them, because if a sudden jolt were to happen (meeting an obstacle at speed, which happens quite a bit), the alloy could survive, but the shock would then be transmitted to other connected parts who would certainly get damaged. So in an application where flex is a nuisance, alloy would be the way to go. Otherwise leave the composite parts who can handle much more abuse and require less maintenance. Everything has their pro and cons, in an nutshell. Composite flexes, absorbs impacts pretty well and is light. It doesn't cope well in cold climates however (it becomes brittle). Alloy on the other hand is fairly rigid in comparison, and dissipates heat much better (in transmission components for example), but anything that has friction in it will wear, and generate excessive play (kingpins and suspension arms for example). I would say that alloy upgrades should be selected carefully in consideration of their application, bearing in mind a good understanding of what the part is required to do (other than look nice). :-) I hope this helps.
@@rcwb110 thanks from for the insight and quite reply.
I didn't know about the knuckles needing to be alined. At the speed of these crawlers, does it matter? Do I need to pull my metal driveshafts to fix this?
It is important, as mechanical efforts are uneven and will cause premature wear in the joints. It could take a long time though, at this scale. I sense that you are mechanically inclined, so you might as well check and correct if needed. Once you have the shaft in your hands, try spinning it at an exaggerated angle while the knuckles are offset, then try again when they are properly aligned. You should feel a difference. Have fun! :-)
Here I just bought a CNC aluminium winchless replacement. Silly me! I'm so jealous of your workshop!
Ahaha! Awesome! I went overkill, for sure. Then again, I do enjoy a bit of a challenge.
A whole machine shop you got? Seriously neat and amazing production

I just started to get into the hobby. I like what you do but never will have the skill or knowledge to design or build custom parts like you do. I would however, pay for time and work. :D
Always nice to hear of newcomers to the hobby! I am a professional mechanic, so that does help with making things like this happen. Let me know what I can do for you, and we'll figure it out. 🙂
Best upgrade for that thing is for it to hit the trashcan.
I suppose you have good reasons for making such a suggestion? Would you care to elaborate, so people can better understand?
Were those Al front arms also Vitavon? I'm very surprised they were so bad, Vitavon is second only to M2C Racing. Check out the anti-roll bars Vitavon do, the standard Traxxas ones are shitty and break very easily, especially the front one; it can snap just from you snaking the truck down a road at low speed.
Hi! Nope, not Vitavon. Link is in the video description. Good to know about those ARB's!
@@rcwb110 Ah I see, that explain it. I would avoid any more metal arms if I were you, you need the flex of the plastic, otherwise things will bend or snap. If you want to go insane though Vitavon even do an entirely redesigned _chassis_ in 7075 Al, very expensive!
Indeed, a bit of flex is much better than breaking something. I did see that chassis. Crazy expensive. And it must be insanely heavy, too. No, from now on I think I will do moderate upgrades along the way, I've done the top notch crazy stuff already. Hehe. Time to enjoy it! :-)

Many of the upvrade parts are hit and miss. Some of them very expensive. TREAL parts fit most often perfectly but they only make wheels for the UDR now. I used to use my UDR so much that many of the parts I installed have worn out and ive been putting the stock parts back onto it that i had originally taken off. I would replace the parts with the aftermarket part i put onto it but many, like the TREAL parts arent any longer made. Aside from that, i dont use it that much anymore. Yours looks pretty dang good. Mine only looked that good for a week cause i absolutely thrash on my RCs from day one.with my rc collection, i only put on aftermarket parts if it breaks more than twice or it a better choice over stock, like most of the electronics in RTRs, or a metal bellcrank vs plastic.
Thanks for your input. :-)
Top gedaan , ziet er goed uit . She looks great.

"You can always return your order within 14 days of arrival" - UPGRADERC I hope you got your money back on the suspension arms.
I know. The thing is, I have so little free time that I waited until I had all the parts before working flat out to put them all together. The 14 days had past by then. So now they gather dust on the corner of the work bench. Live and learn.

1:53 great shot. Nice video man 👍
Thank you!
The rough aluminum surface acts as a better heatsink than a smooth polished one. But that's not why Vtvo did that. The rough surface also means it was much cheaper to machine.
I absolutely agree with both your statements. It heats up, but you can't say it gets hot. It's just lukewarm. Still, the ribs provide more surface contact with the surrounding air (but man does it look terrible!). And yes, it makes machining quicker, so is much more profitable for them.
