Budget Lift Done Right - BDS 2.5" Suspension Lift for the Suzuki Sidekick / Geo Tracker

I've had lots of questions about my lift. I've tried to show as much detail as I can about the parts I used and how it's worked out for me. I highly recommend this as a "budget lift done right". You can do it cheaper with suspension spacers / pucks or even a junkyard lift. You can spend a lot more for kits that include new struts, control arms, etc. This is my preference: quality springs of the...

    Hey Jay, loved your videos ever since I found them over a year ago when looking into Trackers/Sidekicks. I bought a 1990 2door Tracker, sold it and now have a stock 1997 4door Sidekick that I'm working on getting her running right. She has good bones, good compression, just needs a little love and attention. Just purchased a Scan Gauge after seeing your a while back. When watching reviews and setups of the Scan Gauge, I'm seeing it's more than plug in and go. Are there any tips or suggestions you could make on how I might best set it up? Also, mine isn't running perfectly and I'm hoping the codes provided by the SG can help me narrow down my issues.

    I think your problem was actually all the extra material around the way to small tires. Some tires twice as wide with some lower gears and removing all the extra weight of having fenders and floorboards should do it? I find shock's and struts are not necessary on a true 4x4. 😉

    I just bought a 1996 Tracker 2WD “survivor” bright red 5 speed manual with 78k miles and most were pulled behind a motor home. I got all the tow bar equipment but I don’t have an RV, I can’t think of a reason for it but I could pull it with my pickup truck. It’s a convertible with the fiberglass hard tops. I’ve filled it up twice after the initial full tank and it registered 31.6 and 34.2 MPG. The paint is excellent and very shiny, it looks like a 2 year old car. It drives very good and I have not found anything wrong with it so far. It’s a Texas car and I don’t find any rust at all. I like sitting high in a vehicle like my pickup and am thinking about lifting it maybe 2 inches. Oh and I want to get some wider rims and prefer to stay with 15” diameter to keep more sidewall which should help with ride quality.

    All the information I was needing for my 2002 Chevy Tracker. Everything seems extremely similar, and you added measurements in the description. I'll look at one of them. Biggest concern is price right now. I don't believe Johnson Controls makes the batteries anymore. I'll look at Costco, because they're similar in price and keep track of my purchases.

      $120 for a 24F or the 35 at Costco. I'll check on the 34, but I didn't see it in the picture I took. The 34 was actually the cheapest option at $100, so I went with that. If it doesn't fit because it's an Interstate battery, I'll make it.

    My 98 chevy tracker is running at around 1100rpm idle, when it normally does a 800-850rpm, definitely less than 1000, could that be a vacuum issue?

    • @thisisnotatest2
      @thisisnotatest2 Před 8 měsíci

      Based on my experience, vacuum leaks were the root of most of my problems. If you haven't done a leak check, do it first. I had to fix all the vacuum leaks before I could get the computer to run the engine correctly. The good news is that it has run flawlessly for 2-3 years now!

    If interested in selling some brackets I’d be very interested. Can even put down a deposit before making them. I saw in another post there wasn’t enough people interested, I’m part of a huge sidekick group. If you give me a minimum number I can get a list of people interested 🙂 People running lights use those crappy Allen key bolt clip on ones and I’m sure they would prefer these.

      If you have the tools, skills, and space to work on it yourself, definitely. But these are 25 to 35 year old trucks now, so there will always be something to fix.
