The secret as an adult is that you can never give good advice, if the person seeking advice is asking for direction or a roadmap. You can only offer perspective by sharing your own comparable experiences, so the person asking for advice can make their own mistakes on their own long walk to the day when they too wake up and say "Holy shit, I don't know anything."

Well school is useful; having the hard stuff when you are 10 to 15... after that it would be nice to learn things that a useful in life. taxes,goverment,budget... My father raised me with everything I needed. It was a really nice childhood, but the guy who went to school until 4th grade or something, 74 years of pure street smart so me wanting him to give me advice on jobs was kind of crazy. They don't teach taxes, debt and investing in school because if everyone did things perfectly the economy would be inefficient. Why do we have strange things like 4% unemployment rate being "good" for the economy? In a working population of ~160M (usa june 2023 data) that's like 6M unemployed people struggling to make ends meet and their dependents having to live without basic necessities or rely on handouts. People are encouraged to take on debt so they stay in the workforce for longer, etc. Take a moment to think about our reality and things gradually stop making sense and usually when things doesn't add up that typically means someone or some group is making a profit out of it...

Public indoctrination does infinitely more harm than good because it teaches people to associate learning with work in the most unpleasant sense which cripples problem solving and learning down the line way worse than any benefits, and also beats policies like submissiveness to authority and not standing up for one's self at an early age, on top of the trauma of the social pecking order. Life is not a race to be sprinted through and those who try usually end up miserable for the back half, assuming they don’t “opt-out” as soon as they hit the proverbial wall. There is a LOT to experience if you get 60 years of life. Not all of it needs to be “right now,” or, in fact, _ever._ Not everyone needs to experience the same things, and many of us will get truly unique experiences that no one else can ever have. Stop turning your life into one big pile of FOMO just because some other human thinks they have a handle on things and want to tell you how it ought to be. You can take good advice, but you can never take back bad decisions. Think, breathe, and weigh your options. Let the hype train go, because it’s only ever going to crash eventually. Budgeting is not that hard. It's just basic math. Taxes, on the other hand... that's confusing af.

I think the best people to ask for advice are the ones that will be honest when they don't know or when they screwed up, and stick to common sense. The lesson they teach is that you have to think for yourself, do the best you can, and to be real with yourself when reflecting on the past. Also the problem with schools is that administration and political shit outside the system has turned them into daycares; "teaching" is just a formality now and any teachers that actually want to make sure students are learning have an unfair amount of pressure put on them by admin a lot of the time to just pass people, or quit, especially people who have experience in real fields of work or study. Yes, they exist, but are fleeting because they know what they're worth and usually go back to the private sector unless they're very passionate about teaching.

A lot of people in my group of friends went hard after high school/ college, and it seeps into your way of thinking. Almost all of the ones who went hard are addicted to something now, be it nicotine, weed, or alcohol. The way it was explained to me is that when you, let's be honest, debase yourself, you can start to subconsciously view yourself as damaged goods. That's why smoking or drinking feels like no big deal from that point on because, in the case of my friends, they've already taken coke offered by a stranger, literally. They're so addicted to nicotine and weed, I worry about them, but whatever. Not my place to tell them how to live, but I can at least talk about the benefits of not going hard.
