Doctor explains: What is Apnea of Prematurity? Is it bad?!!
Cause? Treatment? Is CAFFEINE bad for babies??! What other treatments do we use??!! What is an event? How many SECONDS to be considered apnea? What about bradycardia? What CAUSES them? Is all apnea= apnea of prematurity? How do we prevent/ treat events? Do events affect prognosis? Are all events the same? When can we discharge babies HOME? When should we stop caffeine? What are the outcomes of infants who received caffeine?
Learn all this and more in our LONGEST video yet (sorry! there was a lot!)

i’m a nicu nurse!! our unit goes back and forth on this, but with a double lumen UVC we typically have a 20g and 23g ports. would you put your flush bags into the 20g bc it’s bigger or the 23g? thank you!
This deserves a million views 💯straightforward
I'm glad to watch this video. My newborn daughter is in NICU (pre-term birth) and i'm going to watch many videos on this channel to understand her situation.
Great as usual, Thank U Dr Tala
I am from Singapore. The way you explain the topic is superb.❤
Thanks a lot Dr Tala? At what level of PTT we should think of giving FFP, Also, regarding PT and vitamin K?

Thank you!! So glad you enjoyed it!!!
Thank you for the video, it is really helping me understand the Jet better. Could you also do a video explaining the NAVA?
Hello!!! I’m so glad this video helped!! We really need to cover NAVA- I will say we don’t use it as much in our unit so I don’t feel like I have practical understanding of it- maybe I need to find an expert!!!!!
Homework: Babies may have apnea due to IVH, hypoglycemia, flexed position, coanal atresia, or sepsis; Caffeine can help decrease inflammation in the lungs, increase long compliance, and increased chemo-sensitivity to increased CO2
Wow that is super super impressive!!!!!! Really appreciate you watching until the end and having such a thorough understanding!
Thanks a lot Dr. Tala, I have waiting a long time for this amazing lecture :).
Oh great!! Sorry about the wait but so glad you liked it :)
Thank you so much Dr. Tala! Will you ever do a video on TORCH infections?

I owe you the biggest thank you in the world!! I came in tonight to a difficult intubation. Our Neonatologist said, "man this kid is so anterior". Recalling your wonderful video from the previous day! I asked if she minded moving the head forward a little she said, "it's worth a try." And it worked!!!! She said she was going to remember that trick forever! Your detailed videos allow me to up my skills and knowledge. So thank you! Vickie RRT (Indiana)
Oh wow that’s so fantastic!! So impressive you were able to apply it in the thick of a stressful situation!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us- so encouraging :)
Amazing as usual, But why u didn't mention anything about genitalia exam?
Hello! Thank you so much! We get weird messages from CZcams when we included anything that may be deemed inappropriate. So we planned on making a separate video. There’s one NCLEX one for now. Sorry!!!
We actually filmed it- we need to get it out!!! Thanks for reminder!
Thank you so much
Thank you for being here!!!
Amazing 🎉 Any benefit of caffeine for tiny babies on CPAP?
Yes definitely! If tiny babies not intubated - should be on Cpap to prevent events (and hopefully decrease BPD etc)
Watching you from egypt would love you to make a gruop for Questions ..negotiation ❤
Hello! This would be interesting! What do you have in mind?
There are some causes which are causing AOP such as : sepsis, Nec, PDA, IVH, metabolic disorder, hypocalcemia, hypoglycemia Caffeine can give orally or Iv for loading dose is 20mg/kg and after 24 hrs starts maintenance dose of 5 mg/kg if recurrent apnea may increase to 10mg/kg once daily. Thats all my answer 🙏
This is fantastic!!! Also very impressed you watched until the end!! Thank you!!!
First comment.. 😘
Love this! Ha! Makes us feel like a real CZcams channel!!!
I thought it was rarer than that lol I had it when I was born and was only like 5 pounds 6 ounces and I had to get 97 stitches and my belly button is to the left and sometimes I dig out part of the stitches still lmao but it even hailed pretty hard apparently while being born at 5 am or something lol so God fought for me to live XD
Oh wow!!!! So great to hear from ex nicu patients!!!! So glad you’re doing well! 97 sutures seems like a lot now but all that matters is that you’re doing well :)
Really excellent video and great bank of xray, as always your videos are amazing
Hi Dr. Singh!!! Thank you so much! So grateful for everyone publishing their X-rays!!! Again thank you so much for your support!
Wish I was here for professional reasons like everyone else in the comments :(
I’m so sorry- wishing you all health and peace and the best outcome possible xxx
My twins are Di-Di praying for a safe journey and I pray they are fraternal
If they are di-di the risks are pretty similar if fraternal or identical! Congratulations! Try to enjoy your pregnancy!!!
Thank you,very practical ....from Oman
We’re so glad you think so! Thanks so much for being here
I am y0 hears old and have ROP. I had many surgeries for retinal detachments…. I wasgiven oxygen to save my life.
Oh wow/ I’m so sorry for all the surgeries you’ve had- I hope you have reasonable vision now. You hit the point exactly/ more important to save a life than save full vision- so I’m sure your medical team did what they had to do. Wishing you health!
Amazing as usual, May U talk about other indications of Surfactant usage
Oh that’s such a great idea for a talk! Thank you so much for the suggestion! And for being here!
Great as usual, my question is if we have baby with TSB in intensive or exchange zone but DSB is so high (20-50%)of total ,shall we go to phototherapy/exchange depending only on TSB? ... Alot of thanks. Dr Hesham ,Egyptian working in KSA
Hello!! We talk about this all the time!!!! We’re not supposed to subtract the direct bili from total when considering lights etc- but there are risks with double exchanges that should be considered. (And babies go green when they’re put under phototherapy with a high direct bili- normally goes away but doesn’t look great). Usually we’ll make the decision based on just how high the indirect is (and direct) and how sick the baby is- if it’s sepsis or hypotensive then we’re way more likely to escalate care because blood brain barrier is weak. Usually this is a team decision though! Sorry not very helpful - a lot of grayness!
