Jeep FC150 tailgate chain install
When I purchased my fc150 it didn’t have a bed or a tailgate…. I found a bed for it but still
Didn’t have a tailgate. Last week I fabricated one for it. But….i still needed a set of chains. I got out the old Kaiser Willys catalog. They carry chains for all models. The link below will take you Directly to the chains I used in this video. As you noticed in this video I traded the links that came with the kit for threaded repair links. I will link them below also. Use my code REDEYEGARAGE10 at Kaiser Willys to save 10% on your entire order. My code works on everything and doesn’t expire.

If you work on cars you know….This can turn a 30 minute job into a 4 hour job… but don’t worry it’s not that big of a a deal. Follow along as I do a basic extraction. This one was pretty standard. I would give it a 2 out or 10 for difficulty. If you like this type of video let me know. I’m sure it won’t be long and I’ll run into much tougher extraction. Thanks for watching!

Make sure that shift collar internal piece is oriented right. I bought this kit from Kaiser and I had to easy swap it around as the way it came was wrong.
If you were not doing any machining, did you sand the top of the engine and the bottom of the head?
No, I would never recommend that. That will only further reduce flatness. All you want to do is clean the surface.
So helpful! Thank you.
Hi, what T case is in the jeep. Was there an adapter between the trans and the bell housing, was the T case shifter connected to the adapter . What's the twin stick part ? Thanks
Stock Willys spicer 18 transfer case. Willys used these in everything from 1941-1971
I might be 2 years too late but I appreciate the two-part series. I am currently in the process of replacing head gaskets on my 7.3 i d i non turbo diesel.
Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. The truck was still running great when I sold it! Best of luck to you.
I run a 1991 Dodge 12 valve with a 5 speed standard, Getrag 360, and the manual calls for 5W-30 motor oil. Just like the song says, "the more I know, the less I understand". Lol
Yeah the getrag isn’t picky on oily type but it does like to be overfilled. Motor oil is all ya need. 👍
My needle has a spring on the back side. Would I set the 3/8" float spacing with this spring compressed or uncompressed? Also, the spring for the top of the metering rod... when I installed per the video the metering rod was binding and would not snap down when released. I had to move washer to the back side next to the nut (plus lock washer) and this allowed it to move freely and snap back when released like you said. This is how my original spring was on the metering rod.
Is this 4 wheel drive?
Yes
I have a 1972 Commando 304ci with a tubo300 is there a overdrive unit for this setup?
What transfer case?

The most important accessory on any 4x4 is the nut holding the steering wheel
Welp, i have beeen wanting one of these things for yeears now, i have 3 Jeeps, a 90 Grand Wagoneer, 98 Grand Cherokeee 5.9 limited, and a 76 Jeep j10 i took on a year ago and rebuilt completeetly minus the bed sides so far..... there isa 62 fc 150, only 45 min from me, for $850, looks nearly complete minus fender flairs for the wheels in the back.. but its all there, engine cranks the owner says, but lots of rust in the cabin... but rust doesnt scare me at all as welding is my thing.... but i dunno if i should take on another project lol... uhg what do you think ? 850 is so cheap though
It’s hard to say without seeing it but $850 is cheap for an fc. But at the end of the day that’s your decision 👍 best of luck to you.
You gave a bad example. I can get all those to go up. I been in the woods and mudding and etc my entire life
being a good line picker has a lot to do with it as well as throttle control
Don't they test their stuff before selling it??
Thanks for the K/W how- 2!! A small detail, but can be important during transport of your stuff!! 🤙🐺🧙♂️🦊👍
Yessir. These little things are quite important! I informed Kaiser Willys of my findings. They said they would look into this. Thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate you! 😊
U and K/W are welcome........! Important sharings , indeed!! 👌🐺🧙♂️🦊👋
Where was that at? And what info on the builds! Just when you think you've seen it all...!

Thanks for sharing, helped me out a bunch🤙
Glad it helped!
Pretty crazy, but cool just the same.
That's a clean engine. Looks brand new.
A clean swap for sure. 👍

@@redeyecafegarage7484yes they are " cool " creations!! DUDE!!! ...> And as I've said, the rigs chug along on the roads, rreeaall well!! More dollars than cents..but..it's his toy!!????? C ya on the next video! 👍🐺🧙♂️🤙
rotaries are fun but you need more low end torque for climbing and rotaries are notoriously bad at low end torque, fuel mpg, and reliablity. thats why they are in light sports cars not 4x4's. if you don't have a low of low end torque then you'll need really stupid low gears to make up for it!
lol… this comment is the perfect example of people regurgitating things they’ve heard on line 😆
@@redeyecafegarage7484 yeah cuz they are known for for being torque monsters… lol you have to rev the piss out of them to get going. Like a Honda minus the good fuel economy
You still have done anything but repeat what you’ve heard. 😆 No one said they are “torque monsters” haha… but they do make great linear power at a much larger rpm range than most engines. I’m willing to bet you’ve never owned or driven one haha!
@@redeyecafegarage7484 i used to be a mazda tech bro. they make all their power way up high they are great for light sports cars. if its a turbo rotory engine they make a lot more usable power below but you still have to rev them out to move. for off roading you need low end torque and low gearing to climb and get your way up what you are going for. yes its cool seeing a rotory swap in a jeep deff cool not the best power plant for the purpose.
Look at the setup on the Willy’s, not stock one bit every one of those other jeeps still had their leaf spring suspension the Willy’s didn’t so it was able to flex better and get better traction, absolutely not a thing to do with the motor
My Jeep is the yellow one that made it up the hill. The suspension and axles are stock.
Ya that was a traction and driver errors, engine had nothing to do with that.
Cool find
thank you for the video. It looks like your canvas strap is OD#3 (tan) in color. On the Kaiser Willys website, they have them only in OD#7 (green) and not in tan. Part # B1920. How did you get tan ones ? Am I looking at the wrong part number?
Hi! I would recommend calling and talking to Jason about this. He will get you exactly what you need. He’s the man! 1-888-648-4923

Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
Rollbar AND seat belts. They have to be used in conjunction or you’re actually putting yourself at greater risk than not having either.
Obviously He had both…
Other than weight, the type of engine powering it has literally nothing to do with its performance in this situation
Haha..
I picked up a 57 wagon with a husky overdrive. At the time didn’t even know what it was. But now I know. I watched a few videos and now I’m a CZcams t90 rebuild “professional” mechanic.
That was a deal! If you pull the detent ball out of overdrive would you mind to tell me the diameter. Mine fell out and I can’t find a size for a replacement.
They are listed for sale on the advanced adapter parts list. You can order them individually. I don’t believe I’ll be taking this one apart anytime soon.
Totally rebuildable with the WARN O.D.!! If you can't rebuild it, flip it and make your money back.
well, amc was going to buy the wankel motor from GM, but atr the last minute GM pulled out of the deal and sold the motor to mazda. the move ultimately killed amc a lot sooner than might have happened if they had gotten the motor. they had sunk a lot of money into the pacer, which was supposed to run that motor, but after gm pulled that on them they had to scramble and some how fit one of their existing motors into that car. made them heavier and less gas efficient than they would have been with the wankel.
Great score! My newish overdrive pops out of direct drive. I’m assuming it needs to be shimmed but not sure what direction. Can you give me some advice for this problem?
Did you take the protrusion measurements when you installed it? If so…what were your numbers?
I’m wrapping up my 1958 CJ5 frame up resto myself. I had that same tar-like undercoating on mine as well. I found best way to remove is either a wire wheel and a lot of patience or also found an oscillating multi-tool worked best but does scratch up the metal, so just be aware. Heat gun and scraper also works. Tried all sorts of chemicals with no luck. Great score on the overdrive. Heck great score on all of it. Congrats. I picked up a Warn overdrive about a year ago with all the parts you showed. Haven’t thoroughly inspected yet, but now will look for the items you called out. I enjoy your videos plus your commentary toward the nay sayers crack me up. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you.
I just replaced my Wagon T 90 and D 18 transfer case with a re built. My T 90 was popping out of 3rd gear. I will re build trans and thus have a spare. My Warn Overdrive would not come off as easy as yours. I did not force it but slowly worked it with a wood wedge. Careful not to ruin the matting surface between transfer and OD. It took a good hour to remove it but was all good. I think the plantary and the shifting shaft formed a hydraulic suction on the two parts. Cleaned it up and installed on the re built 18 and it works good shifts fine. Great video nice score. A good used Warn is worth $600 or $700.
Nice find!!!
Reminds me of my days back in the 80's when you could go junk yard shopping for Jeep parts.
Cha ching!! Jackpot!!! You da man👍🦊! Like you said pieces parts will make a whole lot work , somewhere/sometime in another project!! ( I Para phrase ...lol..A bit!) Awesome find!! 👍🐺🧙♂️🦊🤙
I've seen that puller around the shop and didn't realize it was for drums, just knew it was for pulling something. Now to try and find it again. Grandpa built an incredible 2400 sqft shop but had no idea how to organize anything. He died in 01, but most of his tools are pretty much where he left them. I built my own work benches and use my own tools, mostly leaving his alone. It's been long enough now it's time to move on from it being a shrine to him and use the space I'm spoiled to have. thanks for the video, I haven't had the drums off since 2010 and wanted a reminder now that I've forgotten everything I used to know!
