"Water People" by Coco Love Alcorn
"Water People" ~ an original song by Coco Love Alcorn.
I was inspired to write this song after meeting a water walker a few years ago. Standing at the top of Jones Falls, feeling water trickling over my toes, I stood waiting with a small group of friends. We had heard there was a water walker coming this way. We had brought food and water and I had been invited to lead us in singing another song of mine, "The River", for her.
The moment LeeAnne Bewasaya Shawanabineshii Stevens arrived I could feel a shift in the air. She was weary but deeply and beautifully focused. She spoke of water the way a mother speaks of their child, with that level of love and caring.
LeeAnne spends 35 days every spring walking along or near the Bruce Trail, from Niagara Falls to Nochemowenaing (Hope Bay, ON). As she walks, she gathers and collects water from the creeks, streams, rivers and lakeshores, praying for the water and her community.

This is great for learning how to sing in harmony, and ALSO for people like me who are learning to teach others how to sing in harmony. I love how you slow it right down and break it down to the basics, so that new harmony singers can hear and learn to sing the different harmony parts. I’ll definitely use this video as a learning resource for my future choir sessions when we sing this beautiful song again! I strive to be as natural and have as much fun as you do while teaching! Dear Coco, our local river has been polluted with a 100% life lost. There are many protests, lots of anger and grieving and action. A friend and I thought it would be a wonderful to honor and celebrate the river, to give thanks to her, to sit on her banks and sing to her. I lead songs at a local community choir and I thought to teach the choir a few songs and more voices could join us in our offering. I found your song in The Bird Sings song index and was overjoyed. And then THEN out of the blue YOUR video teaching thus song just arrives in my notifications. What a gift! Thank you so much. Hello School For The Wild! I'm sorry to hear about your local river. Oh our poor rivers. So wonderful that you will be singing to your river and bringing awareness to the matter... and including my song, lovely! Yes, I do teach an online choir! It's called the Wonderland Singers. I have 2 weekly groups. One sings in the afternoon on Tuesdays and the other in the evening on Wednesdays.
