Maybe I missed something were the beach house remodel go?
Engineering issues - it's firing back up soon!
@@MattBangsWoodI gotcha bang on
Y so many nails in the top plate? Gun addiction?
Requirement by engineer.
Great job! Love the references to Larry Haun.
That man has left a mark on the industry for years to come.
Who’s the contractor on the concrete work?
I never heard of them. They’re local to us I guess. Trying to get contact info for other projects I’ve got.
Lol, nice to see your pops again and listen to the back n' forth banter 😂
We go back and forth a lot. Sometimes too far.. 🤣
Do you do the cali corner on both sides of your wall or just one side?
Is that your dad working with you?
Yeah.
Looking forward to the build series thanks
Hi @mattbangswood just wanting understand your chalk lines. Are you not using red oxide? We use red and black oxide and they are permanent, npt need to clear coate. Why does your blow away? Our framing codes are very similar to yours. Cheers
I’ve never found a dye that I can add that lets them stick longer than a week. What are you using?
@@MattBangsWood oxide powder
Your videos are very good, I really like them, please make more videos, I will always support you.
Great video. Is it common practice in framing to cut those boards with a saw over your foot like that?
For the most part. Wouldn’t be something you’d cut on sawhorses.
A few questions: 1) I noticed you guys seem to put untreated 2x4s on the concrete, why is that? Won’t it rot? 2) how come you guys are using hammer and nail instead of a nail gun? 3) why are you tacking the top plates to the base plate? Sorry if these are dumb questions! Thanks for your videos!
You guys definitely have different rules versus where I am working in terms of house building codes, but the essence of carpentry and knowhow is the same. Fast forwarding through some of it helped, lol.
What’s different / where ya from? I’m always open to new methods, I’m curious to learn what varies from us to you.
@MattBangsWood The 2x6 untreated on the side of your foundation wouldn't be there. There would be a 2x4 on top of the foundation placed upwards before the pour as your headers. We also put insulation right up to the foundation wall, but before there is a seal done with a thick blue paint to avoid any open gaps

Hi amigo Hi from Madison Wisconsin 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🛠📐🔨🪚..
Hey Antonio!

new build!? let's goooo!
nice saw flip at 12:00 hahaha thanks for the great video again🙏👍🙏👍🙏👍
and the Larry Haun throwback ayeeee
Haha, the saw flip works 50% of the time, every time.
Shawn Rogers here Local 619 Union Carpenter out if San Diego. If you pause at :41 seconds you can see almost dead center a crane. That's my previous job site. Appreciate the videos and proper insight on framing.
NO WAY!! That’s awesome!!
So nice to see a new build from you fellas again!
Agreed! Thanks for watching man.
How do you like the Martinez speed square?
Yay new Panella build!! Our supplier stages our lumber like that on delivery. It’s so nice.
Yessirrr!
14:54, we use those for the quickdeck scaffold platform, as a deck support!
Fired.. UNSUB... STAY away from all my houses. Lounge chairs?... fucking fired.
🤣
Must be nice to show up with NO concern for getting it done...still popping lines at lunch? You are fired. Get off my job. You dont even know the plans? You had them DAYS before the job and are unfamiliar?... Fired. SOOOOOO SLOW. Nice to be making money beyond the framing.. is that why you are so SLOW?.... Have i mentioned.. you are fired?
There’s life beyond tract homes, my friend. ☺️ I’ve popped lines for a day or two on large homes. Also, break is 2 hours into the day. So it took 2 hours to pop lines.. Can’t fire what you can’t hire. 🫰
@@MattBangsWood you know you're doing something right when the haters come out of the wood work.
@@MattBangsWood I'm hoping this is a parody, kinda like the "replumb" channel guy?

I noticed no sill seal. Is it not required in CA?
I put it on before walls stand. Can’t do it just yet! Doesn’t stay down for me if I do it during plating.
Ahh I see got ya.
Gopro on the head or the chest mount? I frame in the north east and wanna start filming more
Its head mount, shot on Wide-Angle (not super view or hyper view), in 4K (don’t use 5.3K, it’s too much for YT uploads).. If you have any questions just email me: mattbangswood@gmail.com, I’d be happy to help with whatever you need to know.
I worked with a framer who used hairspray on his chalk lines to protect them during the frame job.
It works well from what I hear! Just smell of an ‘80’s cover band all day.. 🤣

Love the new builds!
Me too! Been a minute.
Loved the Larry Haun reference. Glad to see his influence still alive.
Truly someone I look up to. He framed with purpose, every move counted.
@Matt, cutting those metal lumber bands with my rigging axe, so satisfying. The smell of fresh lumber while the lead is yelling out corner and T's counts. Gimme that header list boss. Lesssss Go. 😎✌️
What kind of coil framer is that red one at 20:19?
Ok I know I’m on the east coast and maybe I’m not looking hard enough but do 2x6 come 92 5/8 or do you have to cut each individual stud? And I’m guessing a big price difference if you have to cut each one other than just “slinging” pre cuts? Yup I’m trying to lean.
92-1/4” pre-cut for 8’ walls. I’ve never found a single person who can explain the reason why they’re different either and it bugs me daily. 92-5/8” is part of the country, 92-1/4” for others.. If we have to precut studs it takes time, definitely wouldn’t cost the same to build a whole home that way.
@MattBangsWood , comes down to the sheetrockers on the east coast. That's where the 92⅝ came from if I remember correctly. 😎✌️
wo ist FOX hin 😢
Framing is the fun part of hoaue building.
I agree!
Where did Fox go to?
He’s been with another builder for a while, still keep in touch from time to time. ☺️ Things get slow, people find work.
@@MattBangsWood Thanks for the reply <att. great skills BTW!
Is work slowing down in California? Up here in Seattle seems to be slowing down because inflation.
A few really good lead carpenters have reached out saying they’re about to run out.. It’s definitely a weird year! I’ve got a few frames lined up but by no means is this a record year.
Interest rates are slowing down the mortgages which slows down the building.
What was your price per sqft on this, labor only I’m assuming?
Not all that high if I’m being honest, it’s labor only. This one’s a bit lower than we’re used to, but it’s a small project.
@@MattBangsWoodI’d assume around 22 per sq ft on a banger like this?
looks like 2 x 6 framing. def the way to go!
Even interiors too, not normal, typically only higher end goes that route but with how small this is.. It was a no brainer I’d imagine!
You have to try tajima dye it doesn’t come off easily. Like we snapped lines towards the end of the day during winter and the next morning it was frosty so we had to broom off the ice and the lines stayed on. Plus it helps making your chalk box more water proof, mine tajima chalk box is one year old probably got 90 feet still in it.
My old lead guy used to tell me to spray our lines with hair spray. Said they would never fade or disappear. Don't know how well it works and be great to see Matt do an on-site experiment of methods. 😎✌️
Gotta love a nice flat foundo. I’m doing a remodel right now…from front door to rear door (about 25’)…it’s out an 1-1/4”….yup. We are doing horizontal channel siding too. Things are gonna get interesting. Hard to line courses up wall to wall as it drops an 1-1/4”. lol.
1-1/4”?! Horizontal siding is going to be interesting.. What’s your plan? Just take it out of the first run and get it level off the bat?
This video hits different! Love a fresh build!
Hell ya brother new job new day!!
Damn I'm on my day off 😂 why did I click on this so fast?
Haha, I’m glad you’re here.
