Can the 2021 Trade Deadline plan of the Braves be replicated as a template, or was it a perfect storm?

MLB needs to add 3-4 franchises west of Texas. Outside of the northeast that is the region that really follows the game of professional baseball on a truly serious level. On the west coast you would never see a big league team playing in a halfway decent ballpark and being equivalent to the White Sox or Marlins. Just wouldnt happen.

I changed my mind. Britt is so annoying. Like just shutting down a discussion cause it’s never happen. But then points out several gms that have made moves and then dvr points out they have so much depth. Teams trade for multiple prospects now instead of high end ones cause there’s more chances for hits. So by that logic trading one guy even of holliday calliber is decent. Like what if he gets hurt (like he is now). What if he doesn’t adjust or does but has a down second( ei corbin carrol). All this to say it’s not a automatic shot down.

The biggest compliment you can give Zaidi is that a roster of his castoffs would 105 games. The most truly negative thing you can say about Zaidi is that a roster of his castoffs would 105 games. The bottom line is that this guy Zaidi is just too much with his whole routine and all that.

I’m sorry but Britt speaks out both side of her mouth for most of this conversation about buyers. First she poo poos being a fringe sellers because what are you selling the fans. Fair. Then she poo poos being a fringe buyer because they aren’t good enough. Fine. Dvorak then gives a very specific example that includes guidelines on what teams should trade (around .500 but projected better) and what they should trade for (braves ei rental plattoon bats and relievers). She responds with but what about payroll?! Like if payroll is the concern for that type of player a. Don’t own a team but b. You don’t wanna trade/improve. Payroll for rental players of the levels dvr is taking about cannot be the issue for teams fitting his criteria. Tbh honest just sounds like your pushing for the owners cause that mentality is what makes baseball the worst trade deadline. As an aside, asking super general questions in quick succession to the point where dvr just sorta has to concede cause you didn’t specify an org or a gm or anything, is hard to listen to.

In particular, kind of the lodem pull flyballs approach, take prospects with ridiculous raw power(bat acceleration) and have them wait on pitches to mitigate whiff or pitch recognition seems to be at least a plausible way of producing major league hitters with fringy hit tools. Heliot Ramos has ridiculous bat acceleration but a short batpath(deep contact point) and a max EV this year < 110.

The two things all sabermetricians need to understand is: 1) it is a far easier route to reach success in this game of baseball- either as manager or player or media-member or fanciful enthusiast by NOT employing the use of sabermetrics. Being a successful sabermetrician means having to provide endless context and countless abstract theories while also necessitating the author/host be a kick-ass writer to add the flowery prose to what is essentially endless math. Bill James achieved this tho I was never a big fan of most of his ideas like at all in any way LOL 2) The absolute biggest lie that has constantly been repeated in the baseball industry over the last 20+ years is that being a sabermetric guy somehow makes running a baseball team easier- ALONG WITH a similar lie that being a saberemetrician somehow makes someone a better or more vital or more serious baseball writer OR media member OR player OR poscaster. This is all complete bullshit

Anyways... 1) spur an interest in math within the reader/listener 2) spur an interest in understanding the components which go into a team playing winning baseball 3) spur a reevaluation and/or recontextualization of some aspect of baseball history 4) be generally thought provoking and/or eye-opening 5) the show having some sort of light script and/or structure

I think that stat is one of my favorites because even if you're an old school scout who hates these stat changes in evaluating, the stat explains to them what they already know but just quantitative. I agree with Eno that the Twins are the better team; it’s just tough to account for health and luck, and of course, Cleveland has already banked a ton of wins.
