57th highest paid career in the UK. What a fucking joke. You do all the work, others in the industry with IQ of 70 ruin your work, then blame you for things going wrong, and the system allows it as a precedent, and even encourages it. The latest change in policy following the Grenfell fire just adds fuel to the fire and acts as an extra smack in the face. Wish I chose my career path differently, it's a waste of time, especially in the UK.

Having successfully spent a year understanding the Part 1 examination process and constructing my portfolio in accordance with the 33 criteria listed by the ARB, I have passed the exam in the first attempt and satisficed 32 of the 33 criteria on the bases of my portfolio before the interview round. I have since formulated an interactive guidance program to help candidates looking to give their Part 1 exam. The programs consist of individual mentor-ship sessions, reviewing all of your material, segregating the evidence according to the criteria and identifying loop holes to develop ways to fill in the gaps in order to satisfy all the criteria listed in the comparative matrix. I would also be sharing with you my Part 1 portfolio and comparative matrix as an example for the same. All universities claim to be amazing, the best and that you’ll need to be an outstanding student to get a place. That’s marketing waffle, in reality you’re highly likely to get a place at any you apply for. They love the smell of that £10000 a year in fees and will give you very little in return. You’ll attend classes with people who didn’t get enough a-levels to really be there, but it’s too late by then. Okay so what does the university do for you? The answer, nothing. You will be lucky to see you tutors for more than 10 minutes a week as they stay at home. The university won’t have a workstation for you as you’re expected to go to the Mac store and splash out £3000 on a fancy laptop. So far my fee has got me very little. So let’s look at the standard of your tutors, we’re sold the lie “they are from industry” or “they are involved on research and outside projects”. Rubbish, on the whole you’re tutors are failures who have blagged and bluffed their way into an easy job. On the gravy train to pensionville. Check them out, mine told me he ran a successful practice, a quick look at his half designed website made me suspicious. I even checked the company out on the companies house website. A firm he claims to have been successful for 15 years had just over £900 in its account. A complete self publicist, bullshitting his way through life with his herd of sheep students following him. Beware, universities are now businesses, they care very little about you or who they employ.

hmoud alshaya Manchester is a great example of my previous comments. They claim to be so great, yet if you check non-biased results and score them on their involvement in industry they score terribly. Most of the tutors there have been on the same gravy train for years. No projects working in tandem on real projects or with real practices, and little in the way of tutors who ‘really’ work in industry. Even if you attend just for your first 3 years, then you’ll pay £30000, more if you come from overseas, you’ll attend a few lectures, and see your tutors maybe 10 minutes a week. On top of this they have very little in facilities that you can use and expect you to buy a £3000 laptop and even more for the software you can use. When you want to make a model, they will also charge you for materials and anything else they can get away with. Where exactly does the £30000 go? Add those 10 minutes a week up over the course of 3 years and you’ve basically sat down with a failed architect for the best part of a day. Now add up all those £30000s by multiplying it with all the other people in your class, then don’t forget the university runs two classes. And the course last 5 years in total. We are at a very large sum by this time and they give you nothing in return, they’d argue that they ‘taught’ you, I would argue otherwise. The final insult is when you go and do your year out in practice, do they help you find a place? No it’s thanks for the cash, go and sort yourself out, because our university doesn’t know anyone in industry. Basically you’re just buying a ticket, a very expensive ticket to practice. When finally you do have your rubber stamp and you can practice you’ll then learn about RIBA and how the scam continues.
