Flame Tests - Identifying Metal Ions
How do you identify the positive metal ions in a compound? Put them in a fire and see what colour the flame becomes!
The textbook flame colours are listed below (and on the video) and they're pretty accurate in real life but, in some cases, the camera doesn't pick up the colours exactly as they should be. Calcium salt in particular isn't as good as it is in reality because the red is not as intense.
Flame Test Colours:
Lithium ion: scarlet-red flame
Sodium ion: yellow-orange flame
Potassium ion: lilac flame
Calcium ion: brick-red flame
Barium ion: apple-green flame
zhlédnutí: 40 938

Titration (using phenolphthalein)

For those who have not noticed the previous comments about the accuracy in the video: This video was made as a quick guide for one of my classes about what a titration is and it wasn't meant to be an exact representation since that would have taken longer and I wanted to get to the end point faster so they could see what happens. I explained to them that it would need to be done more accurately...
