Question about what colors of wires from under hood to ignition switch in cab 1951 Ford F1 6 volt has turn signal switch push button start
Saw your video, would like for you to do mine on a F-1 1950 Ford.
Hi Lester. Send me an email WiredCustomsllc@gmail.com
Great stuff! Excellent explanation of flatheads for the new timer! Hoping for new videos as your content is awesome! Go Wired Customs, keep moving forward!
Question...I just acquired a old Sharp 3x2 intake and the plugs are in the intake. Have you ever seen this and is it normal/okay? Go Wired Customs, more videos please, and keep moving forward!
I have a NO CRANK NO START ISSUE PLEASE HELP
I used a Motorola VW internal regulator alternator and made my own strap bracket to hold it in .
I've watched many other flathead videos. I noticed the procedure for installing the cam followers and push rods is rather complicated and tedious. Oil filters weren't that high on their list of importance back in the day. Even now many aircraft engines only have an oil screen that unscrews. But no filter. They were still trying to figure all this stuff out when the flathead was made. Not as archaic as a Ford Model T, but still evolving. Flatheads lack enough main bearing surface area, and that shared exhaust port on each side, and the flow of the exhaust through the engine was an obvious engineering mistake. But when it came out it was only like 60hp. Some as much as 80. So it sufficed for that. But I don't see it as much of an improvement over the inline 4 in the model A or a straight inline 6. It's main attribute is its sound.
How do you prevent the cylinders running full of gas if the float bowl hangs? then it will be a real banger, bang bang bang bang ..
This set up is just like every single carbureted motor for the next 80 years
Cool
Nice video but honestly it sounds like an infomercial for vintage auto garage
It would be nice if people didn't have a damn rock song going in the background when they're trying to explain something, it's very distracting and just not needed. Not singling you out but too many people do this.
Thanks for the constructive criticism, I’ve actually taken music out of my videos since while I’m talking
The valve , spring and guide comes out as a unit . Take the eclip out and the rest comes up and out
Yes, and everything is stuck
Don’t waste money on a flathead where the water spigot is in the front of the heads because the blocks crack in the middle where the spigots in the middle used to be.
Great job on the header. I use an 81 on my 4 banger ('27 T, Model B motor, Model A running gear). Did you hook up the choke? If so I didn't see it.
Hi Stephen, I did hook up the choke, used the a model a choke rod for it.
Awesome video
I have a 1954 ford crestline, converting to 12 volts, using vintage auto kit. Hooking up the reducer to the gauges, (2), it has two terminals , one with one wire, the other with one two, one which goes into the dash illumination bulb….. question…. What side do i put the stepped down 6 volt wire to? And do i remove/ cut the one i i replaced? Or leave them all hooked up, Please help.
I know this was a year ago, but my question is, how do you get power to the panel? I have it mostly installed in my truck but I’m not sure how to power the fuse panel.
The harness should have a large gauge red wire that goes to the battery
Slick-px4pq is correct, your harness should have a 4 gauge power wire for supplied power. Some run it to the battery and some run it to the battery terminal on the starter solenoid. Which harness do you have?
What gear oil do you recommend?
Thank you sir!
Great show guys thanks.
Lol
Because I replaced all wire but no spark
So do u have to strip all spark plugs wires until you see the steel wire
Love seeing folks resisting throwing in a V8 and instead hop-up the ol’ banger.
A really cool guy I knew as a kid, taught me a lot, Walt Reynolds, said of Flatheads, they have water cooled exhaust!
Have you made another video of wiring this style up?
great ep man!
Hi! im having to redo the wiring on my car, what kind of wires do you use? because those looks like standar house wires, i dont know if i need some specific kind of wire for cars
Hello. Automotive wire is very different from house wire. Look up Automotive Primary Wire from Wiring Depot website. You’ll be able to order everything you need there. If you have to replace the whole harness most harness companies will send you everything you need except a couple ground wires
@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Excelent! Thanks!!! illl have to look if i can import them, im from argentina ands its kind of difficult to order this kind of stuff, but ill look for it!
@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Hi! me Again!!!! hahahaha i was looking on online shops for those wirings, and i have a question, the Circular Silver things you have on the fusebox, what functions does those have? Where i havent seen on any installation in here yet.
@@camushushuaia when looking for wiring just look for Automotive Grade, I’m sure someone over there sells them and hopefully you won’t have to import but I’m not sure. The silver circles are “flashers” they are going to make the blinkers blink
@@WiredCustomsSpeedShop Thanks!
Great information! I am getting ready to put a flathead V8 in a '30 coupe. I have a 1937 donor car with rebuilt engine. I had not thought about grafting the x member in before seeing this video. thx!
I can not really hear you over your music.
thanks for the video ,the plates are 3 9/32 high. can you please let me know the width of the plates and the exact position of the 1 31/32 hole in reference to the distance from the middle of the hole to the top of the plate
How did the bender hold up ?
What are you doing with your ammeter?
Have you installed an efire on a 8BA?
I have just not on video, if it’s a good running motor mark what spark plug the rotor is facing and put the efire on with the rotor facing the same plug wire or find TDC compression stroke of cylinder number 1 and point the rotor directly at cylinder number 1 spark plug wire and tune from there
Buick always had ohv engines from their begining.
Great video's, thanks for all of the video's you post. I ordered the 12 volt conversion kit from Vintage Auto Garage for my 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe. I;ve got everything installed. The lights work as well as the horn and the dash lights and gauges but, when I push the start button, nothing happens. I really don't understand how the start button functions with only one wire but, that's the way it is designed. That wire goes to a relay under the dash mounted on the firewall. That relay was not in the kit so it was not changed. I have checked and rechecked my wiring and everything looks correct. Do you have any ideas for me ? That relay is spotwelded to the firewall. Should I replace it? If so, do you have a part number or description for me. Also you recommend a fuse in the wire going from the start button to the coil but, I'm not sure what amp fuse to use.
The tea pot carb intake also accepts a small base chevy carb or ? Ive heard that from ol fellers that the mercs had same intake an they swap carbs an the power level would come up noticably idk way b4 my time lol. But god i love em. ❤ i got a 50 custom sedan. Flathead 8.
Cant u get a set of truck exhaust manifolds 2 run duals wit factory manifolds??
Can you show the difference in open drive and close drive and can one be changed to the other?
I've been looking for a video for a wiring harness for a 67 impala for years. This is the closest thing I've found I really hope this helps us get it in!
2 comments. 1) the whole reason we pull out the DC generator and replace it with an AC alternator (and rectify it back to DC) is that the genny has almost no output at slow speeds or idle. We have to be going about 20mph to actually start charging the batt. The alternator puts out high power right from the get go. 2) For those doing this conversion, keep your 6V starter. They are robust and the 12V just makes them faster and higher torque. Mine is still starting my Chevy 235 after 30 years. Wait until it burns out before replacing it.
Water wetter and distilled water.
Once the one wire alternator starts to charge, will it not continue to charge no matter the RPM, until engine is shut down?
My old Triumph 650 motorcycle is 12 volt positive ground, from the factory you indicate this is bad/unsafe situation...no worries great video
Where can I get a complete harness like this for my LN166 hilux. Please advise.
Wow ! Glad I found your website. I look forward to watching all that you have put together. Thanks!
Would 49 ford custom swap over to model a?
This fits perfectly for what I'm about to do. same car, same color even. so everything will look the same when I go do it. Thanks!
I have a 78-7006 with the newer gears and double synchros , but the case looks bad where the bottom cluster has that 4 way notched bushing , bushing looks bad and case is eaten away some where the bushing was spinning , I have a good 48-7006 case that has older gear set and is popping out of gear , can I put all the newer gears with a rebuild kit into the 48 case ? It’s going into a 36 truck , I also have a 18-7006 case that’s perfect but I’ve read that can’t be used with the bigger clutch , thank you in advance
What should I get for a 1988 dodge Daytona shelby a dash harness
