The settings for the DS-1 sound too light and airy. Mine doesn’t sound like that. My overall DS-1 settings are warmer.

The old school unit he has in his hand was my very first pedal back in like 79 or 80 if my fuzzy memory serves me right. Great pedal and I miss it!

Geordie Walker of Killing Joke used a Memory Man and most of the groups most seminal records from 1977 to the 90s and I believe John McGeogh of Magazine and Siouxie and Colin Newman of Wire used a lot of MXR modulation pedals which also tended to have a level knob you could drive a bit harder.

These are both great pedals, but this demo only shows one sound from each. You can get both to sound like the other is shown here, and much more. The character of the distortion and eq filters are different, but the DS1 can sound more present and full if you use more level than gain. The "can of bees" thing mostly happens after 2 o'clock on the gain, and the RAT sounds better through a clean amp than the DS1. Everything will depend on your rig and tastes. A Boss pedal from the 70s wasn't made with direct-in, digital recording in mind. Obviously.

I always use E flat and drop d, on e flat put a cap on 1 and your in standard I think lol if you only have 1 guitar saves you from having to tune up or down all the time.😊😊❤❤great video 😊
