I think the dance was fine, definitely worth a 7 or more because of the stamina and flexibility she has. There wouldnt be as much controverse if they let her wear a full dress instead, I think.

This probably doesn't matter, but I'm writing it anyway. The music wasn't even Swan Lake (by Tchaikovsky), but The Swan by Camille Saint-Saëns. Most of the judges really didn't know what they were talking about. It was a beautiful combination of European and African dance and a reminder that a swan is a real animal that makes animal movements, not just a generic representation of perfection. The dynamics, muscle control, flexibility, musicality, expression and charisma were top notch. The whole audience was struck with awe. Mamela deserved at least a couple tens and she knew it. She wasn't just disappointed, she was outraged but managed to compose herself on the stage. This is the most class I have ever seen in a person.

What is wrong with these judges! Not all of them though! Just most!! Lol.. Lack of passion!.. Are u sure!! She is passionate in every dance she does!! She always gives 100%.. Brilliant performance Bernadette!!..u are a privelige to watch!!.. U did Ireland very proud!!! .Always!!! And Michael Flatley!! Most of those judges arnt qualified to even judge obvs!!! I remember watching this when it first aired and thinking that looked like just about the most graceful and fun dance I saw the whole show. Seeing it again after all this time.... I'm not disappointed. Still looks awesome.

This is constantly the issue with presenting classical Indian dance to, really, anyone at all!! Only if you have experience in it do you understand what it's about. Even Indians have difficulty understanding it. What seems like random slow hand movements is really telling a story. Instead of wasting time in the intro talking about her competititor, she should've done a demonstration and explained what her piece was about, showing samples of what the mudras were and what they were about. Of course this seems less impressive to the judges than other dances, it's slower, and without understanding it you think "wtf is she doing? she's not even dancing?" It always really frustrates me that Indian Classical dance is so misunderstood even among Indians as being boring. I suppose it's such a complex dance form, and rather even more than an actual dance form. When you compare it bollywood, of course bollywood seems more interesting. I'm so sad no one has ever taken the time to explain Indian classical dance on western shows

Bernadette Flynn is a gorgeous woman and amazing dancer! I've just discovered her and Michael Flatley in previous videos and I am an absolute fan: can't stop watching them! I believe it is probablt they had a relationship though: when you see their very special alchemy in their duets and also one thing: gestures don't lie: LOOK at how she drops her husband's hand to hold the one of Michael at 3:28 !!! Her husband tries to hold her hands but she doesn't even notice it. Hehe. Lovely couple though!
