Narrowboat cruise on the Aire & Calder
We've been missing our narrowboat lately and found this footage of a cruise that we often made in the past.
Leaving our old mooring spot at Stanley Ferry take a slow real-time journey with us as we cruise along the Aire & Calder Navigation in West Yorkshire to Birkwood Lock.
We hope that you enjoy watching it as much as we have!
Thanks for watching!

    Started off ok but he, or someone unknown drowned out the important bits with some stupid, inane, music which drowns him out in places. For a video purporting to inform an spiring narrowboater it's very intrusive and annoying.

    Great video - I now live in Darwin Australia but I used to regularly ride from Bradford north to Silsden or south to Leeds on the cycle track next to the canal. Shifted from Bradford to Darwin in May of this year. The countryside from Bradford to Silsden, particularly after the Bingley 5 Rise was chocolate box beautiful! I can advise from 8:38 where you went under the bridge that the "track" has been replaced by a proper riding and walking path to Silsden where it reverts back to just being a track:)

    I'm glad you like your stove now! I have a green one that I just restored, and one identical to yours. They both heat houses in the mountains, and I love them. Also, they don't create a lot of wood ash, so I guess they are more efficient than most other stoves. Plus you can cook on the top of it!

    Hi guys. I went to Skipton by bus in 2004, it was in fact my first trip to the U.K. And, i think this is the most common question: the water from the toilet...where does it dump to? The mooring area has faucets with fresh water to refill the tanks? Many thks for your answer and the vídio, quite nice!

    Looking into getting a narrowboat and wanted to see what type of work was involved on the engine. Your video was absolutely perfect. Few questions: Should you warm the engine before pumping the oil out? Do you check for loose bolts around the engine? Are torque settings important? At 6:36 could you of tightened the other end of the bolt rather than the hard to get to one? Could you tie the coolant hose so it doesn't rub the engine? With checking the oil does the dip stick need screwing in (on many engines you stop before screwing in)? Where do you put the old oil? Could you do a similar video on checking the electrical system? Sorry for so many questions!

    Yes i really liked the white ceiling and oak edging/ coving it made the whole boat look wider somehow and of course lighter too many boats have to much wood paneling and it closes the boat down ..good choice dinette is a must

    Love that stove - exqensive yes but there seems to be a second hand market for them and there are a couqle for around £500 on Ebay. It is so qretty but not intrusive in a small area and I notice they have a narrow flue. Some narrowboat stove fittings have a flue chimney almost as big as the stove toq and it looks chunky and ugly.

    Great video which gives me the confidence to open the fuel system on my Beta 43. Having changed the belts on both domestic and engine alternators I agree that the domestic one is relatively simple, especially if you have a screwed tensioner like I have. Took me about 10 mins. If you are thinking of more challenging videos , how about a 2 hr timelapse video showing the basic principles of changing the engine alternator fanbelt. I'm sure the loud music would be needed to cover the swearing here!. Think it took me about 4 hrs and needed to strip all the domestic alternator bracketry , engine alternator bracketry and loosen half the screws on the water pump housing to allow adjustment,, buy a decent set of ring spanners as nothing else would reach and adjust with a foot long screwdriver. Having finally got the belt off, although it was stamped 'Beta Marine', it was obviously the ONLY one EVER made and unique to our specific engine. We were right outside Midland chandlers at Braunston and neither they nor any other branch could match the part or determine why genuine part replacements were either too long or short.. Finally found one at the lovely people at Grand Union Canal carriers who agreed how difficult the belt was to change. Stay safe and happy cruising.

    Hi, I have a Godin stove with a rear outlet. Due to the odd sizing of the outlet, I was wondering how you fitted your flue pipe to the stove. I’m presuming you have used 4 inch flue pipe? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I would love to get my one up and running in my summerhouse. Thanks

    • @antonytipton3432
      @antonytipton3432 Před 3 lety

      It was a 4" 90 degree inspection bend. The rest of the pipe was bespoke 4" steel to fit. Took me ages to find a bend with two feet ake fittings to fit to the flue and stove.
