Have had Kafka's "Trial" in school. Reading this book is like watching David Lynch movies. Lots of symbols,metaphor thus many interpretation. But still book has a message for everyday guy "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains". Often we got this imagination,illusion of freedom and don't realise how regime could turn our own life into tragedy.
David Lynch is such an interesting filmmaker, so maybe with that in mind it opens up a new perspective on Kafka for me. I hope to read „Trial“ at some point :)
I've been slowly working my way through Kafka's published materials and I find myself more drawn to the mystery around the man himself and the events that shaped his rather unique perspective. I must say that I adored his Letters to Milena, though it has little to do with what we think of today as Kafkaesque. If he hadn't destroyed her half of the correspondence I think it would have been one of the greatest books of all time. The Aphorisms is another overlooked standout from his writings.
I find his biography also quite interesting. I recently visited the sanatorium where he spent his last few weeks before he died. A really special place made into a little museum

What do you mean by commercials? The video itself has none, or do you mean the ones youtube puts in at the beginning and end because I wouldn‘t know how to influence that

So fun to hear someone speak about dialects from the "outside". My impression here in Norway is that dialects carry the same historical stereotypes of being less educated, less worldly and travelled, but that these have become sort of weaker due to dialects being very prominent orally in the news, with politicians, with entertainment and so on, but of course not in the written language (aside from nynorsk). Fewer young people have a very prominant dialect, especially those who move to Oslo to study tend to "clean it out" of their speach, but I also know some people my own age who are very proud of it and continue to use it (they usually have family and parents with the same ideals)
Thank you for your comment that is really interesting ✨ I would say there are always stereotypes with languages but sometimes more or less intense and from everything I have read and heard there is quite a difference in how the dialects are perceived as a whole when you compare it to Austria. But I can only speak from the research I did and what professors have told me, I have never lived in Norway and experienced it myself. Maybe one day 😁 All the best!

Leider hast du WSD (Prof. Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler) nicht mehr am Germanistik-Institut erlebt. In Min. 6:50 kann man im Seminarraum die von seiner Witwe gestiftete Privatbibliothek bewundern. Ich muss mir jetzt eine Vorlesung von ihm aus dem Internet anhören. Ein riesiger Verlust - sein früher Tod. Er hatte irgendeine Faustregel für seinen Arbeitsalltag: 50 Seiten lesen - 50 Seiten schreiben usw. Er hat extrem schnell gesprochen, ca. 2x schneller als ein normaler Mensch.
Ich hab mich immer gefragt ob es zu den Büchern in dem Seminarraum einen Kontext gibt. Danke für dein Kommentar, das wusste ich nicht! ✨
@@luise_marianne Es wäre vielleicht sinnvoll, eine Gedenktafel vor diesem Seminarraum anzubringen; es ist irgendwie tragisch. Die Witwe hatte keine Zeit mit ihrem Mann - nach der Pension. Er verstarb als Berufstätiger, als Arbeitstier.

I usually do that too! It‘s a nice way to finish the day by reading a private book and getting my head away from uni :)
Ich komme aus den USA aber studiere gerade im Deutschland für ein Semester als Austauschstudentin. Ich habe deinen Kanal erst kürzlich entdeckt, aber ich finde es immer so gemütlich und inspirierend (ich bin immer wieder beeindruckt, wenn Nicht-Muttersprachler*innen besser Englisch sprechen als die meisten US-Amerikaner 😂) Ich habe diesen Sommer ein Praktikum im Literaturhaus in meiner Stadt und freue ich mich so sehr dafür. Ich wurde auch gerne in solche Bookclubs teilnehmen aber leider bin ich mit der Leseliste an der Uni so überfordert, dass ich kaum Zeit habe, andere Bücher zu lesen - immer das gleiche Problem, aber jetzt, da ich noch nicht fließend Deutsch lesen und sprechen kann, ist die Arbeit noch schwieriger… Wir lesen aber Transit von Anna Seghers für unser Seminar im Exilliteratur und ich freue mich sehr dafür 😊

Lovely to see, Luise! I’m a Dutch woman, I did my BA in English literature, and then did my MA in literary and cultural studies specialising in Irish literature, which I have just finished. I’m not the fastest reader either and that’s okay. But honestly, I realised more and more that I’m more an intellectual history (ideengeschichte) than a true literary scholar. I love how studying literature also means studying history, philosophy, sociology, etc. My brother recently moved to Innsbruck so I’m sure I’ll visit Austria soon, especially now there is a sleeper train between the Netherlands and Vienna! I do read German actually (my mind is a bit too tired to write German right now, or I would), but I don’t think I’ve ever read anything Austrian. Do you have tips (not too classical/ slowgoing would be perfect)? My next German book will be a lovely book about Jena in 1800 that I bought in a small bookshop in the historical town of Bergen op Zoom here in the Netherlands. Since I specialised in literature from around 1800 it’ll be fun! Anyway, long story short. Thanks for your lovely video and I love your style ❤

One Austrian author that I really love is Stefan Zweig, it is a bit of a classic, but worth reading and also counts to Exilliteratur. His book „Schachnovelle“ is a great one of his from 1941. Another contemporary author I can recommend is Eva Menasse and her book „Tiere für Fortgeschrittene“ which contains short stories. I would love to hear your thoughts in case you read any of those! Finland is not a part of Scandinavia, but definitely a part of the Nordics -- perhaps a better category. We love Finnish culture in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark)
liebe luise, bin österreicher mit wohnsitz in ungarn. hier in meinem kleinen dorf leben auch ein paar finnen, und ich habe festgestellt, dass sich finnen und ungarn erstmal sprachlich gar nicht verstehen. - die finno-ugrischen sprachen haben 2 hauptstämme, erstens den ugrischen, der das ur-ungarische u kleinere sprachinseln in nordasien beinhaltet, und zweitens den finno-permischen, mit unter anderem der finnischen sprache. grundsätzlich ist heutzutage diese gemeinsamkeit minimal. - insgesamt muss ich dir wirklich rosen streuen, du bist eine äusserst charmante, individuelle persönlichkeit, deine ernsthaftigkeit u deine zielstrebigkeit, wie du dein studium meisterst, deineliebe zur literatur und natur....machen mich zu einem begeisterten betrachter deiner videos. - für die baldige lesung im literaturhaus drücke ich dir die daumen! eines steht jetzt schon fest: THE FUTURE WAITS FOR YOU!
