4:14, FP10 1113, the last one. The last two, 1110 and 1113, were retired from service on September 5, 1991 and replaced by the F40PHM-2Cs.

Wow, 1619 when it was allowed to lead a train. Its cab controls were deactivated in around early 2009 and all of the controls were removed as well as all horns, bells and lights. Only the chair is left in an empty cab. 1619 along with 1600-1618, 1620-1624 are now used exclusively as blind coaches and are now in the middle of a train set instead of at the front acting as a real cab car to lead the train.

Was this before double-deckers on MBTA existed? Makes me like the Rotem and Kawasaki double-deckers that are here today.

The Fletcher quarry locomotive can be seen on Google maps image mode. It appears to still be there.

4:39 the Meridian and Bigbee in Mississippi and Alabama is still around albeit under Genesee and Wyoming ownership. CSX and CPKC are seeking to jointly buy it out and improve the track to 40 mph standard.

Wow, as a kid, I used to ride my dirt bike along the RR tracks in the Rockland section, at 9:37 I can see the house I grew up in, it is the little blue one in behind the car lot. At the time of this video I was serving in the Navy and stationed out in California. I wish I could step through my screen and go back to that time, I would tell my Dad and Mom how much I love them and miss them... Interesting side note, the area at 10:48 was used in the Stephen King film "Thinner".

Nice capture of EMD BAR "F-3" #502. I have two HO scale brass versions of 502, including a BAR "B" unit, all from Overland Models lnc. I am currently looking for the early and correct prototypical paint scheme for my BAR A-B-A lashup. I hope I can find it, soon.

The CN power pool on SLR began on 394/393 not too long before this video was shot. CN power ran through to the 394/393 meet & power would be swapped at the meet (typically, but on occasion a CN unit would run all the way thru to Lewiston Jct). When 146/147 (which began as 144/145 for the first year of operation) began operating in Sept, 1994, CN power ran through to Lewiston Jct on those trains.

Used to be 115# jointed rail out to about Copperville, MP 106, where it went to 100# jointed rail from there westward. It was also 40mph out to about 106, then it dropped to 35 from there. After the Wenlock derailment a few months after this video was shot, all jointed rail was dropped to 25. Welded rail remained 40 for the most part.

404 Diesel Not Found

Those U18s had an exhaust sound all their own, and somewhat sounded like the old Baldwin diesels.

is this the track they made into a bike bath through downtown danvers? I used to live next to that track at the end of Putnam street. the trains came by somewhat rarely and quite slow. I used to walk to great oak in 4th grade 1990-91 down that track.

Great seeing this again after years away from daily visits! So much has changed and now with CSX ownership even better! Amtrak bypasses the 1 & 2 tracks now, no building in field across from office and just now adding roadways to field from office side again!!!

St. Johnsbury went from a 4 RR town-- B&M, CP, MEC and LVRC-- TO whatever the VTR calls its route through here now, and thats it.

All of this is gone now, thanks to a flood, changing economics, and Guilford. Thanks, Mellonhead.

The K cars were brand-new back then as well. We’ll never forget the 1700-series cab cars, MBTA’s first double-decker cars. The 700s and 1700s (except for 1710) seen in this video were all overhauled by Alstom at their historic 150-year-old manufacturing facility in Hornell, N.Y., which also refurbishes old rolling stock to make them like brand-new again, so they can continue to provide reliable, safe, dependable and comfortable rides for passengers. This ranges from heavy rail subway cars to commuter rail regional rail coaches/commuter rail diesel and electric passenger locomotives and light rail vehicles as well as trolleys and streetcars. A total of 106 cars were rehabbed: 82 700s and 25 1700s.

1:12, 1052!!! That was the greenbush grand opening engine when the new line the first in 10 years opened on 10/30/07. It was unfortunately sent to MPI in Boise, ID for rebuilding in February of 2021 along with MassDOT 1062. It had a decal commemorating the opening and first service on its front nose just below the headlight that stretched the entire length of the front on the bottom toward the coupler and prime mover. They are both now F40PH-3Cs, the third generation of the venerable and modern F40PH diesel-electric passenger locomotive in the U.S. and Canada (North America).

0:08, it’s coach 520!!! In 2019, it was overhauled in Rochester, MA and wrapped in a special advertisement regarding the new South Coast Rail, which will restore Commuter Rail service to New Bedford, Taunton, Whales Tooth and Fall River beginning in the summer of 2024. The overhaul also includes repainting corrosion and exterior fixes to the cars’ frame and structure all of which experienced water damage and severe corrosion over the last two-and-half decades. New modular toilets, rebuilding interior lights and wheel trucks, refurbished seats, refurbishing or repairing all of the cars major electrical components, new wheels, new wiring systems, new flooring, rebuilt HVAC and heating systems among other upgrades.

Quite a few fallen flags in that consist. I couldn't help but notice the ICG boxcar followed by what looks an awful lot like an ex-Penn Central (first 2 boxcars).

The F40PHs' location is unknown. Idk what the current status of F40PHs #265 and #295 is as of 2024.

That spot at the 16:00 mark is where I stood so many times as a little boy to watch the train go by. Fantastic video! I even got to ride the excursion train to Joe's pond with my grandmother one time. I am so glad rhis video exists!
