    When weaving we make a chain when taking of pegs or it can be a mess. Put your ties then chain that for ease of moving it without tangle. When weaving we deal with massively long yardage. Have to chain it.

    I am wanting to get started dying yarn and I have some questions about safety. For example if you mix up the power dye into liquid and use that for dying. All of the utensils that come into contact with the dye (can those be washed? What about after dying the yarn the water that remains(hopefully all the dye is used up) is it safe to dump this water in the sink?

    I just love your videos! I tried dyeing my own handspun yarn like this video but used 3 food coloring colors (teal, royal blue, and forest green). It came out quite a bit different from yours with the inside being almost as dark as the outside, the top being quite a bit lighter and getting some dark purple areas on the bottom(?). Wish I could add a picture! Also, I would 100% support you trying to learn to spin your own yarn so that you would also get into dyeing wool roving XD You just have the best dyeing videos and I'd love to see you dye wool!

    Hi I’m new to jacquard dyes and I’m trying to dye a silk play scarf for my 15 month old! I’m really confused I bought the dyes but how much water do I mix with it? Do you have a video of how to use the stock solution? It’s only a small 90x90cm iv seen people do them in huge tubs but it just seems a waste? Does it matter how big the tub is or how much water you use to how the colour is?

    Hello! I dyed my first box today after practicing yesterday with the triangle exercise. I wanted a deep, saturated blue, so made a 1% DOS solution with a mix of Jacquard Gunmetal, Turquoise & a bit of Jet black . I dyed 100 GM of SW Sport Merino yarn that was in my box & followed the instructions otherwise. The water was 99.9% clear at the end, but I’m worried - I have slight bleeding not sure if it’s enough to be concerned about. I did a rinse/wool wash/rinse.

    • @christybartolic6037
      @christybartolic6037 Před 3 lety

      I also threw a mini skein in what was left with some vinegar & got basically no color on the mini. Also no color transfer when I rolled the dark skeins in a towel before hanging to dry.

    So Rebecca mentioned that to get a more even color you should add the yarn to a cold dye bath w/o acid then heat it. At what point during the process should you add the acid? I'm looking to do a very even solid. Thanks to anyone who can answer!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials Před 3 lety

      I have a video that shows more variation to this technique: czcams.com/video/Ph-Zqcym_Ts/video.html I sometimes mix up exactly how I do it, but I would let the yarn soak in the cool dyebath for a while, and then add acid, and stir while still cold before heating it up, stirring occasionally.

    Will a corona virus era face mask work as protection?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials Před 3 lety

      No, a cloth face mask is not adequate protection. I used a N95 mask when I started dyeing, but those are hard to come by right now. These days, I use a deluxe rubber respirator from Dharma Trading Company with P100 filters. The company Grainger has a lot of masks with P100 filters that other indie dyers recommend. I haven't ordered from them personally, but a lot of people like the 3M masks.

      This is a great question! I don't ever really measure the temperature. I think that in general 180 degrees F can be really good, but it does depend a bit on the dye color and fiber content. In general, I try to keep my pots just below a boil (so if there are a lot of bubbles, I reduce the heat.)
