    I'm sure it's a great guitar, but it's not a Les Paul "killer". It's a Les Paul "copy". For the price, I'll stick with my Gibson. In my humble opinion, that looks about like a Les Paul Studio model, which you can pick up used for less than 1000.00 today.

      I value your opinion my brother. I have played some amazing Les Paul guitars in my time. Some I should have never let go. My point is it’s very hard to find great ones in a sea of all of them. By the way, I have owned over 400 guitars in 35 years. Owned at least 20 Les Paul studios. None of them could hold a candle to this Knaggs. The fret work and the frets alone are at another level. My 2 cents. There are other factors as well the nut is cut amazingly well out of the factory. I could go on. I have had the amazing opportunity to own and have my hands on so many guitars to include Murphy Lab Gibsons. There are great guitars out there. You just have to find them. :). Thanks for stopping in commenting and supporting the channel. It’s much appreciated.

    There is a way to control the volume balance of the humbucker, but I never see it done. Ditch the middle tone, use a 500k pot on the humbucker NOT grounded!! This will make a gradual volume control before it hits the switch, so it goes from 50% to 100% ca. Alternatively a 100k controlled split will yield similar results. Also a Bill Lawrence Q-filter can do some serious controlling of a bridge humbucker. But the easiest is my first suggestion. FWIW

    • @VinnyTheAxe
      @VinnyTheAxe Před 18 dny

      I would say the 59 to me has a little bit more mid range more of that real classic PAF sound. I think the EQ is a little different on the 78 I find it more pleasing and a little bit of a flatter EQ, but that’s my opinion.

  • @brandonjackson5865
    @brandonjackson5865 Před 20 dny

    People used to run JBs and I’ve heard they were designed to work with 250k pots like comes typically in single coil equipped guitars, I also wonder if perhaps back in the day maybe Jeff Beck ran it in parallel ? About the only way I could imagine a JB really working with standard fender single coils is wired in parallel unless you were boosting your singles to make up the difference between the jb output and single coils. Also the amps weren’t making a ton of preamp gain like modern amps do so possibly the bridge bucker was for rocking hitting the amp set to detonate and then flip to the singles for clean and edge tones ? I think with modern amps lower output Humbuckers are where it’s at possibly ? Duncan trembuckers also have copper coil tape around the coils to limit the spring noises is what I’ve heard, and they are a tight fit in a standard HB pick guard opening

  • @brandonjackson5865
    @brandonjackson5865 Před 20 dny

    I’ve always run fairly hot bridge humbuckers in the bridge position of super strats , but as I’m getting older I’m wondering if something more vintage or mid output would work better and be more versatile, I currently have a Duncan distortion trem bucker and I’ve had the JB before of course, now my question I guess does the 78 have less of that honk or cocked wah mid and less fizzy top end ? I don’t DC resistance is the best way to judge the overall volume and output of a given pickup because I currently run a Duncan distortion in the bridge position of my RG and a Pearly Gates neck . You’d think the distortion would be so much louder than the pearly gates but actually I have to run the pearly gates quite a bit lower so there’s not a huge volume increase going from bridge to neck . I also understand due to the strings having more vibrational energy over the neck pickup that any pickup is going to be louder in that position than any other place. I actually really like the pearly gates neck pickup it might be a little fatter than I want but it’s cool for approximating Les Paul neck tones with a super Strat . I find myself running Duncan Humbuckers further away from my strings than most people seem too . I’m thinking maybe I’ve been doing it wrong going with high output pups in the bridge position and maybe something around 8-10kohm resistance would open up my bridge pickup tones ? The 78 seems to provide plenty output but less compressed and without the mid spike of the distortion or the jb. I think a lot of people who don’t get on with the distortion or jb wind up liking the Dimazio Super Distortion but I’m not a fan of the SD its always sounded too dark and flat for me. Anyway I’m thinking a 78, or maybe a custom possibly even a full shred or screaming demon might work better for me than the distortion or JB , I do think I liked the JB better than the Distortion actually, also running a JB with single coils in an HSS Strat maybe a 250k pot or 300k would make it perform better with single coils, of course you could pair like quarter pounder singles with a hot bridge HB . I think the output and the eq just needs to be similar and complementary, that’s how I came up with the Pearly Gates Neck with a distortion in the bridge and it’s a surprisingly good combo for a HSH super Strat like RG550. I’ve never really understood Fender custom shop making these super expensive guitars with a JB in the bridge (by the way the jb sounds incredible in the bridge of a Strat ) but putting standardish fender singles in the neck and middle, I’d think a 59 would work better with the fender singles but who knows? Everyone is different and hears vastly different things from the exact same gear.

    • @VinnyTheAxe
      @VinnyTheAxe Před 20 dny

      I have done the 59 in the Bridge and now the 78. Those two are really good candidates. I have found that I prefer the sound of a vintage output humbucker into high gain amp or pedal vs high output humbuckers. You get less compression and better note separation. I also find that it is more receptive to different variations of pick attack. Just my two cents. Give it a try. It might be what you are searching for all this time. I know it was for me. Thank you for stopping in and sharing. Thanks for supporting the channel.

    I’ve had the 100 watt Jube and have the Studio Jube in a combo. I like the Studio Jube more than the 100 watt version because I can actually play it at home. It’s not as thick and meaty, and there is a slight sag or latency with the Silver Jube Studio and Studio Plexi. I compensate with very slight compression. To be honest, I can’t believe how good this amp sounds. It’s got a great clean sound, two different types of overdriven sounds, and I play through it as much as a $3k hand wired amp I currently own. The 5 watt setting retains the sound of the amp well at conversation volumes. I’m not sure if your speakers have broken in. I don’t have any issues with pedals at all and I’m a pedal junky. The trick is to finesse the treble and presence knobs, probably back them off just a little.

They have a greenback vibe but handle more power and don’t break up as easy. In a 4x12. I would probably mix v30s and creambacks. For blues and rock creambacks. For old school metal and rock the v30s work great in this cab. It’s always hit and miss with cabs and heads. Some combinations work some don’t. It’s a fun hobby for sure.
