Fleet Admiral is the equivalent. I've always thought Patton should have been awarded a fifth star, but his outspoken criticism of his superiors doomed that. He was the Allies' best field commander, whereas Ike was more of a political general - at which he was very good. Can you imagine having to placate FDR, Churchill, and Stalin - plus Montgomery and Patton? An almost impossible task. I think Bradley was the last living Five Star.

Battles were fought in the Philippines in 1942 and 1944. Japanese attacked Midway Island in 1941 and 1942. Then and now Midway is US territory. Japan invaded and conquered Guam and Wake Island both of which are American soil. There were several battles on American soil in WW2.
