Testing out the new camera and more important the suction cup mount on the pannier box. I do have a safety lanyard attached in case it went flying. It did not. I rode very conservatively considering I had no gear on other than a helmet and gloves. Still lofted the front wheel slightly in a couple of the clips. Fun bike!

My friend had her new Go Pro along for the Kentucky/Tennessee dirt biking trip from a couple weeks ago. In addition to being one of the toughest young women I know she managed to capture the spirit of the trip with this video compilation. I just now managed to share it with my friends. Absolutely wonderful video! I am heading up to Alaska this year in early June. My question was how much of an ‘off-road’ bike is needed to make the trip? Looking at an Africa Twin (or TransAlp), but I also like the Kawasaki Versys or possibly Suzuki VStrom…?

    • @eddiehess6562
      @eddiehess6562 Před 6 měsíci

      Not much of an "off-road" bike is needed at all unless it is wet when you do the Dempster or Denali highways. The Dempster was a mud fest for a day and a half for me. The Helena Lewis and Clark National Forest section in Montana was very rugged also. Easily bypassed. Equipped with the right tires, the Africa Twin, Transalp or Vstrom would be good choices. I chose the lighter bike because it is easier for me to pick up by myself when I fall down. Have a great trip.

      @eddiehess6562 Před rokem

      I continue to ride the 701 doing stuff like the Idaho BDR last summer. I continue to make modifications to slightly improve an already great bike. The motor of the bike is just incomparable. The power to weight ratio remains its greatest asset. I chose it because I can pick it up by myself when I fall. It is also fairly agile in the rough stuff compared to heavy bikes. Having said that, my bike, like many large thumpers, does use some oil especially after extended periods of 70+ mph highway. I just add oil and ride. The cons are that it is really tall and the configuration of the fuel tank along with the fuel capacity. The tank alone will get you about 160 miles. I like it and continue to be happy with it. Two of my riding buddies have also purchased 701s. Great bikes. If you plan to do dirt/gravel/mud for long distances then take the 701. If you are staying on asphalt take a bigger bike. For more detail on the trip and some incite on the bike check out the ride report linked in the description.

That's 300,000 to 800,000 pounds, at least 4x larger than your average Over Road Truck Hauls. Without the Copper Mines, there would be no roads to ride in Arizona or likely any leading to Arizona. It is a thumper. It was stone reliable for this trip. Since then, on the Idaho BDR, the stator failed. It was at about 30,000 miles. I am stilled pleased with the bike. It does use a little oil like most single cylinder bikes do.

      I do not know of a way to share files directly on CZcams. You can click the google map link above. There is a menu icon (three dots) in the red tool bar at the top. You can select Download KML. Basecamp will open that and you can convert it to a .gpx. If you click on the ride report above you get an in depth report. The quick story is that it was 10,300 some miles. It took me 29 days. There are only a couple places I deviated slightly from this route. On the return trip after Breckenridge CO I took a more direct route because the heat. You can check my exact route with the inreach link in the ride report. share.garmin.com/EdHess You have to hit the "View All Tracks" button.

    I appreciate the comment but somehow it was moved ir erased. I have thought about and respect what you are saying about professional ism yet I am not a professional youtuber and a bit of what grandma used to say “a firecracker or a pistol” So while I definitely do not aim to offend anyone I am just going to be me not pretend to be some choir boy especially for what would amount to maybe 1 cent per hour lol. Just know I was not trying to offend you and will think about what you said loving foreword. I also feel a responsibility to help raise up a generation who are not offended and stay true to who they are. This is my true passion as nobody ever became someone great because they were given everything but rather because they overcame obstacles and nay sayers and pushed forward. So while I am not asking you to change I hope you can respect me for who I am and if not I would just say change the channel.

      Thank you for responding Cody. You do have complete freedom to be whatever you please. You being you is the unique element of what you bring to the art. I like you. Do not pretend to be anything. Just be that without the cursing. You mention the next generation. I am guessing even you being you do not think it would be appropriate language to teach children for instance. Children have access to your videos. As to professionalism you mention 1 cent per hour. CZcams filters demonetize you for the use of profanity. The advertisers do not like it and do not want their products associated with it. I suspect you are not in this for the money anyway. Keep giving us great adventure. That’s what we all tune in for.

      @@eddiehess6562 I appreciate all of your input and truly it makes me contemplate 🤔 so thank you. I grew up with heavy metal and rock concerts and long hair etc so much of my youth was spent truly homeless. Now that said it was me being a wild child I had parents who say the same things you are saying to me now lol. My main thing is that I learned at a young age it was strange to me that people let words or images offend them and I thought wow all that does is give power to someone else over me if I let that offend me. I also have spent 25 years doing construction work so my world view is a little different than most of Tim s crowd lol . At the same tome I am a tender heart would never want to intentionally offend someone and hope I did not offend you. I suppose leaving in my cursing was my passive aggressive way subconsciously of saying I don’t like how soft we are becoming as a people but that may have been a mistake. I can’t promise that I will change because that could be a lie I will say though you have made me think and if it is not needed for the moment in a video I will do my best to tame it down a bit. I totally appreciate you watching and your input especially if I disagree it is another persons view and I feel strongly that if you took the time to point it out and that you have no map intentions which I believe is the case that it is important to you and maybe others so I should at least try to see things from your view. On a funny note to me anyway my wife said I have been called many things in my life but professional is not one of them so I did laugh at that no offense meant I am often referred to amongst my friends who are very successful and professional as their “kid rock” friend with a good heart and bad mouth lol. I would give a stranger the short off my back even though I didn’t have a replacement for myself but I may curse about it when o got cold later lol. Thanks for your support and input and again I meant no offense. As far as commercial and companies you make a great point and I suppose even though I make sure to mark my videos not made for children I don’t want to be the one who Jonny tells his mom a bad word he learned from me Great points I will try to internalize. Cheers! Oh and great bike choice btw ;)

I knocked my bike off of a work stand and broke the windshield before I left on this trip. I had shared this link with Mark at Madstad after I had created the post on ADV.
