The only complaint is that it drops you off half a kilometer from the GO train if youre using the train to travel between NF and Toronto. As for GO, they're morons and have no shelters or even canopies to protect riders from the weather while waiting for trains.

    If EXO would have had control over the Vaudreuil line, a simple branch to Dorval airport would have been possible and eventually Windsor converted to an underground terminal which could have been extended past downtown, but as long as it remains controlled by CP Rail, this will be hard to accomplish. In Europe, the rails are owned by a national authority and all railroads can have access. Such a situation would have made Montreal's system a lot better.

    😂 thank you for making this video to get the word out. If you are interested here is an update. Now in 2024, one year into the niagara regional transit (NRT) amalgamation which consolidated the local and regional service into one provider but left the two fare system...more on that later. This year NRT is expected to take over the red thewego route into a local route... One they were already operating according to your video? But the local route take over had to be delayed by several months to save operating budget for 2024... Maybe the operation of wego routes wasnt taken over by the amalgamated NRT at the same time. In 2025 the amalgamated transit authority is expected to harmonize the regional route and local route fares. Today a regional route costs $6 per ride and a local route costs $3.00 per ride... I wonder just how they will harmonize that. And a last update for niagara transit is that upgrades to the Go train lines and stations has increased train service to 3x per day connecting Niagara and Toronto year round, previously it was seasonal for summer tourism. There is more frequent Go Bus service, at least hourly... The Go Stations in Niagara Falls and St Catharines have major renovations planned for the buildings and surrounding roads to improve operations. I believe there is also a medium term plan to build a new Go Station in Grimsby.

    The only time I took a bus ride was a year ago in France and apart from the 1 hour delay which was to be expected the worse thing was that the driver was literally going 100kph+ in the street of the city (I checked on both Waze and Maps). It would have been fine if this had happened on highways but inside a city (where speed is maximum 50kph in France( and often more 30kph than 50) ) ??? This experience definitely vaccinated me from bus and convinced me that trains are both way better and safer.

  • @jacksonbourrettransportati9852

    Wow, I never knew that buses drive that fast. What's the design speed on most parts of that highway route? I remember the design speed being 130 km/h often, despite a 100 km/h posted speed limit. Do you know if everyone around that bus was driving 115-130 km/h range? Would the bus be considered a hazard to other drivers if he goes 20 km/h slower than everybody nearby?

    • @OntarioTrafficMan
      @OntarioTrafficMan Před 6 měsíci

      Like I said, in this case the driver was not driving particularly recklessly. It was New Year's eve so there were hardly any trucks on the road, so 115 km/h was the typical traffic speed on the 401, and 119 km/h on the 416. However, on a normal day, the right lane moves at 105 km/h, because there are a huge number of trucks, and all trucks are limited to 105 km/h. Buses with 110 km/h limiters (which by the way is already pretty much all buses apart from Flixbus and Rider Express) are probably around 40th percentile speed on the 401, which seems about right for a heavy vehicle with long stopping distances and poor manoeuvrability. The real issue is not this particular driver, but rather the other drivers on more typical days who are trying to go faster than the average traffic speed, tailgating others and making aggressive lane changes. When I rode Rider Express that is exactly what the driver was doing and I was honestly scared for my life and for the others on the road. I think that the speed limit on Hwy 416 should be increased to 110 km/h (like it already was on Hwys 402 and 417) based on the geometry and the low traffic volumes. But even then, a bus limited to 110 km/h would only be going a few km/h less than the typical traffic speed.

      @jacksonbourrettransportati9852 Před 6 měsíci

      @@OntarioTrafficMan I 100% agree. I am sorry to hear that you didn't feel comfortable or safe during your bus ride. I'm very glad that you made it there safe, and the same for the other riders. Did you report the bus driver for tailgating? Yes, the speed limit needs to be increased to 110 km/h in my opinion (maybe even 120 km/h in my opinion). I remember reading that the speed limits used to be 113 km/h on all 400 series highways, but the fuel energy crisis shortage in the 1970s is the reason all the speed limits went down to 100 km/h. In my opinion, I personally think they should all be raised to 110 km/h, since they used to be like that safely.

    • @OntarioTrafficMan
      @OntarioTrafficMan Před 6 měsíci

      @@jacksonbourrettransportati9852 The expressway speed limit was 113 km/h in the 1970's, but the rate of fatalities on highways was also far higher than it is today. I don't think that we should blindly return to that situation. There are certainly some grade-separated expressway which should have 110 km/h limits, namely those with geometric features which can support higher speeds, including: - only 2 lanes per direction (more well-organized behaviour, less chance of lane change collisions) - infrequent exits - paved shoulders - median barriers - geometry designed for at least 120 km/h Many of the highways meeting those criteria have already had their speed limits increased to 110 km/h over the past couple years, but there are still a handful of segments which could be increased, such as the 416. Many segments, such as highways through urban areas, should remain at 100 km/h due to the much more hectic traffic conditions, with more lane changes, accelerating/decelerating traffic and simply more vehicles. I've sometimes wondered if Hwy 401 between London and Windsor should be increased to 120 km/h or even 130 km/h, because a large part of the collisions there are due to driver distraction on the long straight highway. If the speeds were increased, drivers would not feel as bored, so they would be less likely to lose concentration on driving.

    • @jacksonbourrettransportati9852
      @jacksonbourrettransportati9852 Před 6 měsíci

      @@OntarioTrafficMan I never knew that collisions were higher when the speed limits used to be 113 km/h. I completely agree with your suggestion about the 401 highway to increase the speed limit to 120-130 km/h, and the features that you mentioned are great ways to review the highways, before increasing speed limits! The QEW, does have a 110 km/h speed limit despite having 3 or more lanes. I don't think Ontario roads/highways without a median/divider, can have a speed limit higher than 80 km/h. That's why it's 80 on the main undivided highways, such as Highway 6, Highway 10, Highway 9, etc.

    • @OntarioTrafficMan
      @OntarioTrafficMan Před 6 měsíci

      @@jacksonbourrettransportati9852 According to the the Ontario Road Safety Annual Report 2000, there were 5.2 deaths per 10,000 licensed drivers in 1972, and that dropped to 3.1 in 1977, and 1.0 in 2000. The QEW is the one case where I think the speed limit should not have been increased to 110 km/h. It has frequent exits, heavy traffic and 3 lanes per direction, which makes it quite hectic compared to a rural expressway. Many 400-series highways continue to have no median barrier, they only have a grass median which is not sufficent to prevent an out-of-control vehicle from entering the oncoming lanes. Highway 401 between London and Windsor only got a median barrier installed in 2021 following a public outcry due to a large number of fatal head-on collisions crossing the median.

    Another thing is that traffic lights have long cycles in America because they need to create gaps in traffic due to high car speeds. So slowing down the street means quicker light cycles are possible. This means in practice that counterintuitively, lower speed limits means everyone gets to their destination faster because their AVERAGE speed is higher. But American car drivers are so greedy that they would rather drive as fast as possible even if that means it takes longer to get anywhere.

      That's not actually true. Yellow light calculations are simple and have been nation wide for over 50 years; yellow light is calculated by taking the speed limit, meaning "if you can stop, you should". Many people will just floor it, leading to a ticket. The only difference is design speed versus speed limit, meaning turning traffic typically gets a shorter yellow light, which makes sense.

If it isn't then equipment must operate at lower speed, at least freights. seems to have no problem blowing by UP platform at high speed.
