Checking Back 4 Years Later-Generac Generator Install
We talk with Bob about a 10kW generator that we installed around 4 years ago. It has provided reliable backup power during occasional outages, coming on within 10 seconds and restoring all power in the home. The generator requires minimal maintenance, with an annual visit to check the oil, filter, and battery. The built-in trickle charger helps preserve the battery life, which has lasted around 7-8 years so far. The generator also performs a self-diagnostic test weekly, giving us peace of mind that it is always ready to go. We've been very happy with the performance and customer service from the company that installed it.

as a 25 year Generac tech, (recently retired) I can tell you that 90% of the time that wire gets a yank when the battery is installed. The obvious fix is a zip-tie... and it will be fine forever. Over my 25 years in the field, I have started hundreds of these and it's amazing what can happen between the gas company, the electrician, and shipping. BTW, you can also get this code if the gas is not done correctly. The latest code calls for a remote regulator vent at least 5 feet from the unit and they can fill with condensation causing lack of gas flow. The vent pipe must have a downward slope and be above the snowline. Sometimes you need to be creative to accomplish this.

@@GentechNorthwest-ue4oq not talking about the sediment trap in the gas line. (inside the cabinet now) NFPA regs call for venting of the second stage regulator 5 ft away from the set. (atmospheric vent) Many just extend the gas pipe and put the (propane) regulator 5 ft away. Some extend the vent with 3/4" PVC. That's the vent I speak of. If that gets clogged with mud wasps or water, the regulator won't flow any gas. Here in Ct they adopted that code at least 6-7 years ago. I bet we spent a year chasing "no starts" because some would still flow gas till it got cold and the water froze. Most of them were installed by another company and we picked up the customer later.
