Just what the hell justifies the high astronomical Cost?? Is it made from precious metals??? You'd probably only get a few hundred dollars for it, for a wrecked one for scrap! It's only a matter of time, we'll be paying for the air we breath.... If you build one, the rest are cookie cutter copies....

You can not learn in your ship or there's! you have to learn it a certified ship like a R22. So you will be out at least 10 grand in a R22 or similar then you will be able to get five hours transitions fight in your ship. Good luck friends just FYI for you.

Are there any Rotarway helicopters out there with a lot of time one them? Can anyone attest to the longevity and durability when compared to an R22 or Bell 47?
well it's not exactly fair to compare it to those since those are premier certified aircraft used in training and a variety of jobs. Of course they will have significantly more time on them. Most people cant afford to own their very own helicopter, and the one's who build something like a Rotorway probably only fly a few hours per month. I mean what good are they for? Just joyriding/sightseeing. With a 2 hour range you cant go very far either. It's not like you want to do this every single weekend, and thats assuming you dont run into bad weather half the time. After a few years of ownership and maybe 50-100 hours most people sell them because they start collecting dust.
400 to 500K? You can get a low time R44 that price, not to mention your pick of 300Cs or Estroms or the used Jet Ranger---500C even. Who in the hell pays 400K for a 2 seat chopper?
Is that tail boom strong enough? There doesn't seem to be a lot holding it on!

Here in Canada you can get a decent jetranger B3 for a half million : ). Got a good friend of mine that just bought one as a toy.
Might as well just go buy a Jetranger at that price. hah.

Lucky you. Then you must also realize that a kit helicopter is by design a 1 fail 1 crash system. It's not like a $300 million dollar airliner that has 3 backup systems. Inherently you risk things when you go for affordability over redundancy. Granted most helicopters are one fail one crash designs but still. Just be glad you can afford a helicopter. I would kill someone to be in your shoes.
that belt drives a gearbox which has a shaft to the tail gearbox. It's belt to shaft driven, so its shaft driven.
