death grips really hasn't gone beyond this in terms of the basic techniques and sounds. The sounds are better produced and thicker, and the yelling is more hip hop; but the general emphasis on texture, rhythm, intensity, and eschewing of conventional melody, harmony, composition--all are already present here. The stuff our generation sees as the representative of "artsy" music really aren't all that innovative.
