The problem in life is narcissism. It’s not that some people are more beautiful or stronger or talented, it’s narcissism that tricks others to be giving to them, but they only take. The end. This was good, and I want to point out narcissism is what triggers all bullshit for humans. Period.

I find it difficult that the good doctor doesn't subscribe to a higher power. His explanation of god in tribal sense is a bit shallow in my view. God, in the religious sense, is also very childish. But god, as the transcendent, is experiential. God/nature/Emptiness exists in my experience Very good interview. .

I lived in former USSR under socialistic regime and I can assure people who have tendency not to like capitalism, capitalism 70% better. I came to America when I was 40 in 1992. I can tell that America was and still is for me the best thing that happen to me in my life. I am terrify that with the tendency to replace capitalistic system with socialism in a future I had to live under socialistic regime again.

There are still a few countries that are trying to escape capitalism. Problem is more poverty and no one wants to live in them.

A person who lives in a developed Western culture where there are opportunities not only economic, but many types of services that allow an individual to live with dignity, then it is possible to say that we live in free will. However, in a country of extreme poverty and conflict, it is difficult for a human being with limited options to say that free will exists. A girl in extreme poverty was sold by her parents to a person who used her as an object of pleasure and as a result caused a large number of traumas and damage to her brain, where is the free will?

I wonder if Dr. SAPOLSKY has considered obsession and care as the answer to his question about people's motivation for doing hard "non-rewarding" work. After all, he himself spent years writing to anthropolgists with no response as a youth. That is 1) hard and 2) externally non-rewarding. That is pre-forntal cortex too. These people are who can become our Doctors, Nurses, Soldiers, etc.

Fascinating conversation, and thank-you for having it and putting it here for me to see. Free will is not something that I have seen as actual for a very long time. What we do have is a persistent sense of subjectivity and agency, and that is what I think that most of us equate with the idea of free will. That sense of the subjective self is probably not going to just up and disappear, and there are probably evolututionary biases that make that hightly unlikely - except that we are able to experience it in altered states, however induced. (Maybe that is why in the early days of psychedelics in western society those who had these experiences saw in them part of the key to get out of the traps of the prison of the ego and free will. It is, however, more complicated than that in practice, as the ego tends to emerge and the baboon like social hierarchy tends to reassert itself without more thought and the support of others to recast ourselves, and add to this that those addicted to the dopamine reward triggers of such things as punishment of "the other" through retributive justice are deeply addicted/vested. This is hard and necessary work that we all need to do if we are to survive in the age of climate change and nuclear weapons.) Again, thank-you for the wonderful and thought provoking conversation.

The interviewer's gut punch re alcohol was unusually insensitive. That's a serious topic, and the Dr. grew up a trauma victim. RESPECT. Whether you agree with his perspective or not, at least --the very LEAST-- give respect.

We are God disguising ourselves as humans to show us all the path we need to follow to teach us all how to find bliss, we find bliss when we awaken. God is creating his own suffering to help all those parts of himself who are lost in their illusionary selves (being human) that it's time for us all we need to awaken! ( We = God) put ourselves to sleep to live within this human illusionary world = (the dream the suffering), to show everyone who they truly are and awakening is coming back to God to our true selves , ( suffer little children to come unto me ) We are God's little children ( his creation) it's all God creating everything including us!
