Making A Massive Oak Table - Breadboards Done Right
I was lucky enough to be able to make this oak table with breadboard ends for a buddy of mine. I think it turned out great.

very nice video.
Thanks!
Love it the finish is what I was thinking of picking up a few days ago what do you think of Danish oil? Still think linseed and polyurethane is king tho
Danish is cool for certain applications. But you’re right, the silky smooth application of the mix is awesome
I am happy and excited every time I see anyone. Built a guitar and played it himself And I like making guitars too.
Awesome!
Is the dowel just for aesthetics or does it provide any kind of strength seen as you’ve glued and doweled??
It's mainly for aesthetics but I suppose it adds a little bit of help with keeping those corners tight.
Nice box...and congrats on engagement!! One question...with that type of hinge, you still had to cut a relief in the box so it would open? I am about to make a ring box similar to this and thought these hinges allowed it to open without having to cut a relief?
No relief was needed, I only found that out after the fact lol they’re great hinges!
@@TheWoodenHobbyist - Thanks! I actually just completed the box last night. I made two simultaneously in case I messed one up and I'm glad I did because I learned those hinges are tricky. I first tried the hinges on scrap wood and found I had to get it within 2mm of the edge of the box so it would clear when opened but when I did the first box, my bit wandered about 1.5-2mm on one of the hinges which made it wonky when I opened it. So I made a jig to get it exact on the second one and drilled the holes perfectly...lesson learned! These hinges are tricky but quite awesome when you get it right. Congrats again!
What is the radius of milling machines? For the neck
Telecasters are subjectively best with a radius of 7.5 to 9.5 inches
British rappers be like💀
BEAUTIFUL 😊
Thank you!
I wanted to replace my dewalt cordless sander with this. Ended up returning it after one job. Way too slow, weak and wobbly. My cheap Ryoby is much better compared to this. Will try a brushless version of this.
I’ve never had any problems with Ryobi
I use cedar chips hamster bedding inside paper condiment cups and I mix a 1lb block of melted gulf wax with 1/3 cup liquid paraffin lamp oil. They burn for a half hour.
Great idea!
Looks great I'm sure it won't break or be wobbly
Thanks! Holding up well to this day. Not a crack, wobble or concern.
this is safe for kids?
I’ve read recently most finishes are safe for kids once cured. I’d say as long as they don’t frequently chew on the wood, they’re fine. Kids toys, utensils, and clothing all have some form of plastic or polyurethane. Depending on your needs and if it’s a concern, I’d recommend doing further research before making a decision.
Great video, right from the get go I knew that was Uncle Donny. Trump 2024.
He stands out forsure! Still got the carving
Fantastic video and even better playing technique,Well done !!!
Thank you!
What kind of wood did you use?
Standard pine with a linseed oil prefinish and finished with totalboat marine wood finish
Great box. Never understood why people put on that repetitive crappy music though. Just go with shop sounds or nothing at all.
Much appreciated. And I agree, many of my recent videos are a bit more polished, especially with the gain in confidence after doing it for a while.
So, I finally fell into peer pressure and go'ogled Woody Hyezmar’s Bible. Yes, you can get his projects at no cost, although admittedly they're not up there with the best, there are a few golden nuggets you can have fun with.
Interesting
Can you link or post the honing guide please? I’m getting frustrated by my cheap one I got from Amzn. Thank you, nice jig and video.
I can’t seem to get the link to work but it’s the veritas honing guide. They’re available at woodcraft I believe.
Never heard of Festool for $200🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
lol their systainers of dominos are more than that 😂
Aye i upgraded my craftsman ROS to the festool as well!
You won’t regret it!
Stunning Tele! I love the natural finish. New sub!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Would this be durable for exterior applications?
Maybe with enough coats, sure. But I’m unsure how good it contends with UV damage. Most outdoor pieces of mine have Total Boat Marine Wood Finish. It’s a linseed / epoxy sort of mix with UV protection
O natural da madeira é muito melhor que qualquer tipo de tinta... essa guitarra ficou perfeita.
acordado! obrigado pelo elogio!
Nice build. It can be difficult to continue on after making mistakes, but you handled all of them creatively to realize the goal in the end. Kudos. As an aside, lose the music or at least turn it way down. I actually am more interested in listening to you.
Thanks for the input. And agreed. Many of my most recent videos don’t boast music the same way.
Stunning ❤
Thanks!
Looks and sounds great.
Thank you!
Thirty bucks for a finished bamboo foldable model on Amazon vs. ten grand in power tools, wood, exotic finish? Okay😂
Sometimes it’s about the fun side of things. My wife laughed at this and it made us both happy. A cheap online stool wouldn’t do that for us. Either way, some people like cheap things.
😂😂
😬
Beautiful! Any videos on that router flattening process? I don't think I've ever seen that before and I'm wondering where the pitfalls are. Why use a sled if that works??
Thanks! Well, every router sled needs something flat to reference. In this case, the bulk portion of the table was flat enough to reference. No videos on the process but I just chucked a 2 inch flattening bit in, then screwed the router to a piece of plywood with a hole cut on the edge.
@@TheWoodenHobbyist What do you reference to begin? Do you just find the flattest part of the table and go from there? Seems like no matter what you'd either star or end with a section than can't be routed this way, but maybe I'm not entirely understanding the geometry of it. Appreciate the reply and great video. I'm a fan!
@@jeffreyjbyron so the linear panel was flattened before hand (not shown in video) and I set the flattening bit just barely touch the surface. I don’t know if I would consider it flattening the breadboards as much as I would consider it “bringing them to thickness” The ultimate goal was the bring the breadboards flush with the main, linear panel.
@@TheWoodenHobbyist I see. I'm trying to figure out ways to flatten giant redwood slabs (we have many in northern CA) that don't require a HUGE sled. With your method, I believe if I was able to get a portion of the table flattened with a sled, I could finish it without needing to build anything new.
@jeffreyjbyron that’s awesome! Yeah I guess it could really work if you create a small reference point / strip and move on from there! Good stuff!
That is fire
Thsnks
Nice work. Hefty Duty!
Thanks!
Great video to bring awareness that thicc tables deserve love too
Tables of every size deserve love.
“Rather than use math, I just threw tools at the problem”. 😂 That’s my kind of problem solving right there lol. I’ve done it more than I care to admit.
Glad I’m not the only one. Math is for schmucks and smart people.
Here's another table build you should check out! czcams.com/video/R79xXkbYoJg/video.html
It looks and sounds awesome, build more! Lots of builders never go through all the measurements of everything. Maybe you can do that. Looks thin on the entry of video which looks good. Looks thicker latter even near finishing.
Thanks a lot! It was hard to focus on sharing every detail being it was my first one but I definitely plan on doing a full step-by-step series of one soon!
No WAY, hahaha. Your not going to just pull 1 new sheet out that way.
It’s movie magic
Looks great! Where did you get those hinges?
Thanks! Rockler I believe
'Promo sm' 👌
Great product🤪Looser image
🤷🏻♂️
How do you get the liquor to only go to the tap and not fill the pipe all the way to the bottom?
Well, I originally used a cork to fill the bottom pipe but it seems necessary to get a 90 degree fitting and solder / weld a straight pipe or all thread to the bottom. The cork will eventually give out.
are those frets from stewmac?
Yep! Bought a bulk amount of them when they had a deal going. Got some leftover for the next build
@@TheWoodenHobbyist ty, are you satisfied by them ? compared to JEscar evo . wanted to buy the frets from SM but they looked a bit "too yellow" but i guess that over time they get a bit darker
I’m completely happy with them. They match the gold / brass hardware really well in person
ok thanks ! Their picture on their website doesn't look very appealing !@@TheWoodenHobbyist
$349 in Canada and that's not all due to the exchange rate.
Interesting!
That’s beautiful!
Thank you!
I've never hit the "Subscribe" button so hard! Your humor, production quality, and subtle messaging are top notch!! Keep up the good work!!! !!!!
Awesome! Glad you enjoy!
Not a fan of the new "cinematic touch" with the lighting. Unfortunately, you're not the only woodworking channel going in this direction. One channel does something, and they all just follow.
Guess I’ll have to step up my game even more. Thanks for the motivation!
I like rustic.....I'll go ahead and subscribe.
Welcome! And thanks!
The table looked pretty good I hope you don't have any warping problems with it but then again if it does, as you said, it's rustic! You got a subscription out of me
‘Ey! Much appreciated! Only time will tell!
At least YOU understand what really happened to Einstein @@TheWoodenHobbyist
Does anyone REALLY know?
Man, there is probably reasonably safe way to do that, but similar to all the crazy shit you can do with a radial arm saw, this stands my hairs on end. Ill use a router thanks
You’re not wrong! My only issue was that there is no router bit big enough for the size I was going for.
Nice job!
Thanks!
