    I came from your TXR Zero essay video... i'll be frank, i didn't know about the TXR games... but i have some curiousity and well... i have some interest in highway racing thanks to... Wangan Midnight anime and Digital Foundry video mention of TXR... i searched for some essays or retrospective, and yours was the first of many. After some more, i was convinced and gave TXR Zero a shot... and boy, it kicked me... but i'm hooked despite the beating i took from the AI that have an insane level of tunings and parts installed into their machines... well, i at least beat Jintei and White Charisma... Wanderer hunting... that take time and i barely have the time, so i gave up on it... all in all, i really feel missed out and kinda lamenting now that ITC is an X360 exclusive, with it being the last Shutokou battle game developed by Genki before the company closed doors... i wish they ported it to the PS3 too, but that didn't happen. The closest is Wangan Midnight for PS3 where Genki paid tribute to Shutokou Battle X by adding 10 racers from it to the game... and that's just sad... meaning they could do it, but didn't. You know, about TXR or SB (Shutokou Battle) since Tokyo Xtreme Racer name was "owned" by Crave as Genki's main Shutokou Battle western publisher at the PS2 time, then Konami with Street Supremacy and Ubisoft with Import Tuner Challenge. Kinda confusing to describe... where i'm going is, when it comes to TXR/SB lore... don't think too deeply about it. While it's cool with like "in TXR1 and TXR2 for the Dreamcast, we actually play as Jintei" to know, it doesn't matter who we actually play as since... we are the player. When it comes to Unknown and Zero... they are Wangan Midnight references since Genki also develop the Wangan Midnight games. I mean, look at TXR3 aka SB 01 and i'm not dissing it, just point things out... Zero got downgraded from driving the Porsche or RUF 964 to an AE82 and the game still claim it's the same Zero from the last 3 games... just odd and Unknown becoming a literal ghost that copy the player instead of driving the Devil Z aka S30Z. TXR3/SB 01 seemed not wanted to reference Wangan Midnight so much like they used to. In regards to Ground Zero from TXRD2, there's actually a team at the endgame with the leader literally driving a blue S30Z in reference or homage to Devil Z or Unknown in the Shutokou Battle universe... and it's kitted out with the license plate written "Death" on it. If you are planning for more video essays on the other TXR/Shutokou Battle games after Zero, wish you all the best and i look forward to it. Wish i could play Night Runners too... but that means i would have to sell off one of my kidney, probably cost an arm and a leg just to buy/have a PC rig that can run the game hahahaha... that joke aside, it's amazing that such a passion project in the making for years is being work on by a single person. That alone is such an admirable passionate legacy to pursue. All the best for the dev and keep the unapologetic embrace of the 2000's vibe you are going for, man.

    What I think happens is every new protag of tokyo extreme is like...I gonna beat previous owner of devil z...then own by myself or something loke that It's devil z just probably changes owners ofhten...and saying black porsche is refference to wangan midnight is like saying that bmw e46 m3gtr in juiced is refference to most wanted Thats not where this originates from Blackbird was real 1 to 1 no questions asked He was driven in midnight club bot a game No idea was it really called black Bird but still Devil Z could take such inspirations as well Or was that Porsche took from reality to make us realize about scale of mennace what devil z is Either way black Bird is just fictional incarnation of real deal If Ginte was protag...he owned devil z at one point? If I was playing as ginte in txr 2 i was having girlfriend in hospital and was to buyssy to find time for her being to much into racing...crayzy part is it does soubds like me except girlfriend part

    The biggest pleasnt suprise in my history of gaming. I bought it 2 years ago, expecting just shitty quirky title to add to my ps2 collection. Ended up loving it to death. The living proof for a concept of something more than the sum of it's parts. Taken apart the game should be mediocre at best. But it's just incredible. Magical. By far my favourite "arcade" racer, even surpassing NFS Underground 2. It's an experience not a racing game. I love the way you covered it, easy sub.

    As some fun tacts I would like to add to this video, are that the Eurobeat was already famosus in Japan before Initial D thanks to the Dancing Arcade Machines, like Stepmania or DanceDanceRevolution, plus multiple VHS videos of ParaPara dancing, the genre became so popular that was choosed by Avex Trax to be used in Initial D, and thanks to its high BPM, it fits perfectly. Another thing is that the one who started the genre was Giancarlo Pasquini a.k.a Dave Rodgers. Also that many J-Euro songs are covers of Eurobeat songs and many of them were used as anime openings, for example, One Piece opening 2: "Believe" by Folder 5, is a Japanese cover of "Dreamin' Of You" by Lolita. And "Beat Of The Rising Sun" was first a Japanese song from the group V6, but composed by Giancarlo Pasquini, and later he self-covered the song in english, this also happenes with Take Me Higher. And one last thing is that Tomas Marin, the voice behind Mega NRG Man/Derreck Simons/Mr. Groove, is actually Spanish; and Jessa Stevins, the one behind Ken Blast/Oddysey/many etc, is from California, so not only Italian and Japanese singers make Eurobeat. And to finish with this comment, and this is more a personal opinion, I don't see right divide the genre in "Classics", "Covers" and "Remixes", a better way to divide the genre is in ages: -The Early days of Eurobeat (1990-1994) when it was the transition from Italy Disco/Hi NRG to what now we know as Eurobeat, starting with "Your Body Lies" by Norma Sheffield. The Golden Era (1994-1999), when many of the real classics were released, Running In The 90s, Deja Vu, etc. The Dark Era (2000-2010), this era marked a before and after, since many of the songs released in this years were between mediocre and bad, also marked the end of one of the most famouse Eurobeat Labels: Time Records (most of songs that came out in the 90s are from Time), stoping producing Eurobeat in 2008. The moderm Era (2010-2018), here the standar of eurobeat changend, now all songs were made with computers and not synthesizers as it used to be, but at least some good songs came from here, Gas Gas Gas is the most known (rip Manuel, by the way). And the last one, The Resurrection Era (2019 - Present) Thanks to labels like SCP Music, Delta Music Industry and mostly Dave Rodgers Music, the genre is slowly becoming popular once again, or at least, that's how I see it. Anyways, that's all I wanted to say, good video dude.

    I actually thought eurobeat was a band, since I've only heard like three eurobeat songs until now, it seems to share a lot of qualities with synthwave, yet still have its own unique sound. It's a shame eurobeat doesn't show up if you search for "car music" lol.

  • @JakeMR2
    @JakeMR2 Před 7 měsíci

    A actually decent video over TXR in general and it's focused more or less than the less clickbait ones. I will commend you on that one. Though you got some stuff wrong in the gameplay section mostly relating to Aerodynamic tuning at 33:01. They can reduce weight, but there are DragCoefs that add onto the default drag coefs the car has by default, the more drag the less speed / cornering grip. The same tricks sorta work with TXR2 in this front as both games internally handle aero the same with minor differences. So it's really a visual thing as it is a performance thing. Other than that great video about the game and it's truly concise. I wish more videos about this series actually went in depth just as much as this video did.

    Pretty decent video essay, although I'd recommend a tad more editing at parts. And maybe a bit of restructuring might help, since I feel like stuff about the gameplay should be talked about first before delving into the rest of the game. Also, defeat Speed King and White Charisma on the Wangan you pansy. Nah, I kid, I challenged both on the C1 Loop as well. I guess I could experiment with the structure a bit, and as for challenging the bosses on the wangan, I sort of did that in my original playthrough where I was driving a Skyline, but I challenged them on the Yokohane, and would only win because they crashed into something, which whilst more fair, sort of would kill the entertainment factor a bit
