Hello Can you pls give a price idea of cover penny black 1940 with red Maltese cancellation and without cover? Thanks
I was flagged to this page by Stanley Gibbons. Are you able to do a valuation on the COMPLETE set of PHQ cards up until 2023 when my husband (the collector) passed away,. I also have the Year books Royal Mail Special Stamps, books 1 through to 30 complete with all the mint stamps and in their original sleeves? If this is a possibility, can I email you privately and give you more details and photos please?
On key indicators, re-gumming, I think his camera was reversed as his top and bottom in describing pictures is reversed and I noticed this a few other times. Fortunately his descriptions are so well stated that most viewers will figure it out. I am saying that his or this show flipped the pictures. But, this is a great video and thank you. I want to know why they go to all the trouble on less expensive stamps to forge them? Ego? A game?
This was exactly what I was looking for! I inherited my father's collection and he had several different albums - some 4 inches thick. I find them unwieldly. Hence, I am looking for ways to break the collection down into multiple binders of more manageable width - say, by Year, country, topic, etc. The REGENT spring load looks interesting in this regard. Might SCOTT & H.E. Harris pages fit in the REGENT, along with the Stanley Gibbons pages?
Spoiler alert! Your Elvis stamps aren't worth anything!
Thank you
Don't stamps fall out of the open sides?
100's of stamps from around the world dating back to 1900's

I made the mistake of sticking my stamps with double sided tape. The tape has penetrated some of the stamps. What should I do please?

Fascinating! Were there, I wonder, similar movements in places like France or the US?

How and were can I sell the stamps I have
Such an entertaining way to learn some knowledge, Thank you, Oscar!
If I remember correctly, there are 4 stamps in the set. They are in different colors. I have all but the highest value stamp.
I've watched a few videos from Stanley Gibbons as I've recently decided to actually "buy" stamps (and a stockbook and tweezers.) This is the most excited I've seen Oscar Young be in a video. The ups and downs throughout, all while he apparently navigated his own thoughts and feelings, was quite enthralling. It was the first video I saw from Stanley Gibbons that didn't come across as a simple explanation or sales device. There was genuine excitement behind it. I'd love to see more videos like this!
Very nice video. There was one very important point mentioned there: "Sometimes the catalogue value does not reflect the current market value" - well, this is a huge problem for all of the less experienced collectors. Good to know that Stanley Gibbons is aware of it, however, it is surprising that you do not do anything against it. New catalogues are being made every year, but the real stamp value is not reflected there... Of course, I know, you are also a dealer and I fully understand the reason why the value of the stamps has never really been corrected in your catalogues. And to be fair, this is a problem of ALL catalogue issueres (Scott, Michel, Yvert...) Anyway, thank you for the video, very helpful for all unexperienced collectors. 👍
We have Rowland Hill House in our town.
Wonderful collection of commonwealth.
This is a very well structured and interesting video. Thanks! Sir Rowland Hill must have been a very creative and visionary person.
wait who uses the cutter upside down like this? The mount goes on the ruled section.
Sadly the Royal mail do not frank stamps anymore and have destroyed the machin collecting scene.
If anyone wants to see one the finest philatelic displays on the postal reform of GB, try and get to see Bill Barrell's display on the subject.
You might also like some of my videos on youtube about rare stamps. 👍
1d in 1840 was equivalent in purchasing power to about £1.28 today, so stamps aren't that much more expensive nowadays.
That hate-mail has a very 21st Century social media feel to it. Victorian trolling! 🧌
The pre-reform postal system was truly Python-esque: having the receiver of a letter cover the postage is the last word in ludicrousness.
We are planning a Q&A session with Oscar Young. Do you have any questions about your stamps or about collecting? Fill in our form here with your question: share-eu1.hsforms.com/1SLb2hIW7SEiu00e1JR0dbg2dfse1
Sir Baldwins Auction Raffles my stamps update please
I have Great Britain 100 year stamps . Would you like to buy ??
Do you have George V stamp paper that I can buy if possible please
We don't have any available at the moment, but there may be some in our next Revenue Stamp auction which should take place later this year. You can view auctions curated by Stanley Gibbons at baldwins.co
Although I'm grateful for information, I'm fed up listening to you telling useless info like what gum is on the back of stamps(I asked Google which showed yourself and 1:47 and didn't realise that was just for waffling ((& 1:47 score is achieved by Ronnie O'Sullivan in about same time as this) started thinking I'd had a Playschool 'flashback'
Est il possible de vous acheter un catalogue qui référence toutes les lettres et tous les types d'alphabets pour identifier les timbres du sg1 jusqu'au 4 lettres corners
My mother is trying to find out the value of 4 stamps that were put out for the 90th birthday of the queen mother. How do I find out for her?
How can I sell my stamps I have a lot of old Great Britain antique stamps . Are you interested??
Would u be interested In buying international postage stamp album part 1 from Scott publication inc.??
Very interesting areas of philatelic collection for the managing director!
Completely unwatchable. He constzntly skips over things and says he already covered it, the audio quality sounds worse than a ww1 field recording, and the "uhhhhhhhh" every 3rd word is so grating on my ears.
Congratulations!!
Technically, the Mulready envelopes and letter sheets were not the "precursor" to the penny black, because both the Mulready products and the penny black were issued on the same day: May 6, 1840
Great video how much l queen elizabeth 3d 5d stamp price
My grandmother was a post master, and have inherited her massive stamp collection, books, envelopes from countries all over the world, full sheets. This video is very informative. Thank you!
Lovely episode... very informative. ❤
Thank you so much! Absolutely fantastic video! I do love early British issues! Thanks again for your work!
Why are they the first commemorative stamps? Wasn't there Queen Victoria 1887 Jubilee set of stamps? Aren't those stamps commemorative?
Thank you for your comment. The Jubilees are definitives and not commemoratives as they don't commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. We hope you enjoy this video and keep an eye out for more of our content.
Oscar, thanks for that excellent video covering the 1924 and 1925 Wembley Exhibition stamps. What is probably less well known, and you, yourself didn't mention them was that the post office also issued four varieties of what is commonly known as postal stationery, which used the exact same designs, colours and denominations as the postage stamps themselves. There are four varieties, and, just like the stamps, they were issued for the two years of the Exhibition, so, eight in all: a penny-halfpenny stamped envelope (or "three halfpence" as it is worded), a penny-halfpenny letter card, and a penny postcard and a penny-halfpenny postcard for each of the two years. Interestingly, the penny-halfpenny postcard for each of the two years has something which, as you mentioned, no British postage stamp has ever had: the name of the country , Great Britain, printed on the front of the card. I believe this might be because the higher denomination postcard was for sending messages overseas, and might necessitate the cards saying where they came from. The cards also have "Universal Postal Union" printed on them. I only found out about these items when I started to collect British postal stationery, and it took me a couple of years to acquire all eight of them, just finally getting the last one quite recently. I also recently acquired a cover with the penny-halfpenny stamp (not, sadly a first day cover) used on a letter sent to a British diplomat at the Hungarian legation in Budapest. And finally I have a nice cover with the British lion logo used as a cancellation device which was used for a few months. All in all, a wonderful set of stamps and postal stationery.
Thank you for this informative post. We are glad the information was useful, please keep an eye out for more of our content.
