Luis Guilherme is a risk but a risk we should be taking. high potential with high rewards and a possible Kudus replacement next year. Nice to look at talent like this just wish we were looking for talent for us, all these type of signings, for example Guilherme & Kudus, look very much as if the bigger clubs let us take all the chances and then after a couple of seasons they'll come calling with their bigger cheque books, I can see the logic in buying cheap and selling for profit it just feels it's not benefitting us on the field, long term, just readying players for others.

Certain risk here certainly, but this is the sort of deal we need to be considering. Not only is it vital we give our own youth a sensible opportunity but we need to target young players from elsewhere not only to benefit us on the pitch but in light of the seriousness of FFP these days to ensure we can later sell on at a substantial profit to feed into future budgets. This is the new football world we exist in and a concentration on older proven players with little to no sell on value and often expensive wages is simply unsustainable now as your core transfer activity, even though a balance has to be maintained. Indeed this is why a Director of Football is an absolute vital cog in the wheel.

Surely a left winger is a priority? It must be a long term plan to have an in-house replacement for someone (Kidus?) or a lucrative potential sell-on? As you explained Stel, there is no point in giving a young up and coming goalkeeper a seat on the bench for a year. It would destroy them. They need to be out on loan to a club that will play them. Foderingham would be there as an emergency player and is unlikely to get a game. He would also become one of the eight home grown players we need and for a relatively low wage. Areola/ Fabianski conceded 74 goals last year, behind a 'slightly' better defence than the Blades, so he cannot be much worse than them. As an ex-goalkeeper, I think Lopetegui knows a lot more about stoppers than the rest of us and I trust his decision.
