    Your timings really surprised me. Our flock of 14 Easter-eggers were locked into the coop for just one week. By night 3 after their freedom to the run, they were already returning to the coop before dark. Only on nights 1 and 2 did we have to help them into the coop.

    This is a wonderfully helpful video. My question- I’ve a small yard and small coop with two old hens. In the interest of keeping my month old chicks on chick feed and not layer feed, not letting them hide in the nesting boxes and pooping in there, etc… what do you think of building a small coop within the run?

    @Theecouponcat Před 2 lety

    Mine are 5 weeks and still indoors because of cold nights being as cold as 30 and 40 some nights. There are no older hens but have 2 ducklings they already have play time with them. Do ducks need to be trained with them? I know they will need water and access to their pool to keep nostrils clean and such.

    Do they need flight feathers cut? That's my biggest worry of one flying over as an adult

    This is a great option if you already have a trailer that you can adapt to haul your livestock with. In in the process of making a removable rack for a utility trailer that I bought just a few weeks ago. I have old materials lying around and a welder So I'm fabricating it myself. I do have an old livestock trailer. But it is in need of many repairs.

      Hey sorry about the rude comment at the time I made it I had to deal with a bunch of those trailers at a cattle auction and none of them worked I was just frustrated with people using when they weren't any good sorry I have no real problem with them just please don't take it to a large auction

    Why a single axle? Wouldn’t a dual axle be able to hold more weight?

    • @xon2013
      @xon2013 Před 3 lety

      Yeah I personally would feel much more at eat ease hauling cattle on dual axle trailer. Seems much more safer.

    • @mykehart3488
      @mykehart3488 Před 2 lety

      Yes a double axle can hold slightly more weight, but this is video is about using a trailer you already have. I use this to haul sheep, and lots of them will fit on a single axle trailer. If hauling large animals you would want a heavier trailer.. Just move the rack to a different trailer.

    Holy hell this guy's funny stock trailers being heavy is the biggest and funniest load of bull I've heard in a while and rusting out how the floor joist have mostly been made of aluminum since 1960 and trailer lights are not needed hell they don't work hahaha

    • @mykehart3488
      @mykehart3488 Před 2 lety

      You saw me lift the tongue of this trailer with full rack on it and drag it to the trucks hitch. Can you do that with your stock trailer? Also you will not find a aluminum stock trailer with a aluminum floor for $1000. Most older and many new stock trailers are wood plank floor, with steal beam construction under the wood.

    Taking care of chickens is not hard necessarily, but time consuming, with many steps, feeders, waterers etc. Myke faithfully carries out the "chicken chores" three times a day - each time spending anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour getting everything refreshed.

      We chose the hoop house design due to the fact it is so versatile. When we built ours, we had planned to use the hoop houses as green houses during the off season. It has proved to come in handy for many other things, that we never got around to using it for the green house yet.
