2024 Yamaha MT-09 Review
Ten years after its debut in the U.S., the Yamaha MT-09 has been updated and refined for 2024 while maintaining its wild side that we enjoyed on the first generation. Updates on this generation are extensive, including new acoustic amplifier grilles, an improved transmission, more aggressive ergonomics, a stiffer chassis, updated suspension, new Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires, a new 5-inch TFT display, new switchgear, and a complete electronics package.
We rode the MT-09 in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California during Yamaha’s press launch and then rode the bike home after the launch, testing the MT-09 on a variety of roads. We came away impressed with the bike’s refinements and happy to see how this motorcycle has evolved in the past decade.

Best review yet. Nice in silver but that tail section is pretty horrible.
Hello Greg and Kevin! Keith Youngblood here. Someone from Bring it Motorcycle Show needs to contact me. Been unable to contact Kurt Einsinger about unfinished commitments. Please get back to me. Thanks!
Was soll das. Das kann ich auch.
How tall are you?
What about the new 800? As an adventure/gravel bike?
0:10 only thing wrong with it in my eyes should of BELT ..NOT A CHAIN ... 😊😊
Can you tell me what this beautiful place is in California ?
Great vid. Mine arriving tomorrow cant wait. Even thought im in uk i wanted a black one had to wait a extra couple of weeks for it. The honda dealers here told me its 93hp and usa ones 83 ? Prob emission reasons but i have noticed a visual difference in Europe and usa models, usa has one hole at exhaust with removable baffle europe ones have two hole and none removable. Maybe just remove your baffle and be the same power as ours 👍 anyone have any thoughts on this ? If i was in usa i would not be happy with losing 10hp 🐎. Hope this help my American friends 😃.
The analogue speedo is hard to read and should have been the rev counter and speed indicated digitally
I watched this video before buying my first bike, which is the Eliminator SE ABS. Loving it so far! Thanks for the thorough review!
Wish I could see his brake light
GSX-8S/R as it turns out, are severely choked up. Tuners have been getting 10-12 horsepower gains, and a whopping 10 ft-lb gains with exhaust, airbox lid/filter, and quality tune.
Yamaha, bring back the Vmax, but make it a bit more svelte with a larger fuel capacity.
Hard to believe you only squeaked out a 40 mpg. My 2018 gets nearly 50 mpg if I'm rolling around 55-60 mph without heavy wrist.
My '17 would get 38 if I were lucky. You must ride like a geezer.
@@DB-sd3cw Nope. Sometimes I just like to cruise around and look at the landscape, not ride like my hair is on fire or I want police attention. But I'm not a slow poke by any means.
Fck that video. Who want to hear that women sound??? Pls delete😊❤
Nice review, is the suspension capable of having a plush ride, like a Cadillac feel? Or is it just a sporty stiffer suspension? Thanks
Oh man mentally I'm making bad financial decisions and I feel they could be justified.....fml I feel like I need this bike.
Well thst music and volume is terrible
It should be a thumper...
The bug slayer himself!
I've heard from numerous people that the movie is pretty dull. Not much action, not much riding...just a drama told through the eyes of a woman. I'll give it a chance once it's free on a movie site.
You mean it’s more story driven?
This interviewer sucks
Much better headlight
Too bad they made the rest of the bike look like a cb300 or a Chinese scooter. Horrendous redesign.
He was great in this movie
I'm not a fan of that exhaust.
I'm not a fan of the EPA.
Same as last gen
There are no "best roads" in California; this due to the high frequency of aggressive and flat-out reckless driver encounters. This state sucks for driving and riding. It takes just about all the fun out of it! 😕
There's an old saying, "If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch".
Disappointing, they bring back the Eliminator name with a puny engine 😢
Butterface!
other than that center headlight, the subtle changes really look great!
The headlamp is getting worse and worse 😂
Many didn't like the 3rd gen cyclops look, so they gone with this now.
Way better than 2021 version
Wrong by a mile @@vpower87
It’s a lot better than the previous. I’d argue it’s the best one so far
@@X4Piper nah this looks like a 150cc scooter you'd see in Thailand. Horrible redesign
This will be my next bike. God willing.
I think you may have gotten a bug on ya 😂
Thanks for posting. Truly miss hwy's 84/35/9 out of San Mateo county down to Santa Cruz. Thanks again.
Always loved the Rocket III and think they should still offer a touring version.
Can I get ANY of these new bikes without a TFT tablet screen. Can I just get gauges.. please 😢
check out the kawasaki z900rs. Still has a small tft display but with real guages for speedo and tach
Triumph Speed twins.
@@viperq yeah my wife and I ride triumph because the bikes still look and sound good and have proper gauges and not ipads
Great video
What do you mean pounds?
I have the impression that he shifts his bottom from left to right and vice versa, lifting it high above the saddle. Is it necessary?
when you can’t decide between a Bonneville and a Street Triple
I was thinking the same thing... good eye!
That’s freaking AWESOME & I’m glad he had an opportunity into a recent movie in the theater!!!
What’s not so cool is that it’s £3500 more than the Duke 790. I owned the Svartpilen and Vitpilen 701. But secondhand, new they were too expensive. The last one failed due to pricing it’s going to happen again.
I totally agree Jim Ive just sold my 701 Svartpilen (21 Plate Style version in Bronze) I can forsee the 801 going the same way the 701s did give it a year and they will heavily discount them as they did the previous model as nobody will buy one. Then I may consider one.
Fairly tall? How tall exactly
hopefully the data on display is programmable in layout by firmware; or moveable like smart phones to put items where they belong; in the future.
i'd redo the menu's to not have as many folders with one items; for no reason; tpms, and cooland temps can be on one screen; ez to get at with one flick of the finger; all menu's data ca be combined on 3 screens max. hard to get to anything while driving. Why. I'd like the RPM in dignal below speed. Even gas data is on another screen !! See how ez it is on bmw.
digital; half size numbers; below or above speed. - imo. The bar to raise lower windshield. Really; l put in a 1" bar that serves as a phone bar. Looks and feels better. !
I hear the pannier racks and crash bars on 2024 GT Pro are not compatable with 22,23. Things moved around and no 3rd party has them yet for 24' . Disappointing as Shad had them for eyars 22,23. to match my boxes. So comfy, maneuverable and ez handling. !!!
Idont like the price for a 790 ktm, don’t like the tank it’s cheap material! Yamaha mt09 11k € much better choice!
The 801 has different specs than the 790, they are not comparable as if they are the same bike. The 801 has the Duke 990 suspension and isn’t made in China.
@@yohanyonsson the motor is made in China, cf moto and Build in Austria. In Germany with shipping costs and dynamic pack 12€
@@Rainan-hi8ds It’s more expensive here in Sweden. I bought one anyway. Comparing it to the 790 isn’t a fair comparison.
I really hope Husky makes one of these with the 1390 engine 🤤
Cant wait for this one. Finally in the US!!! Want thia bike!!!
I’m 900km in on mine. Love it so far!
