I miss wrestling. I never made it to the Olympics, but I won four consecutive provincial championships, two in Ontario, Canada and two in Nova Scotia, Canada. I only lost one bout, at a metro exhibition tournament. He spiked me on my head and gave me a concussion, then I donkey kicked him in the balls with my heels while escaping an ankle lace attack, and in the end, I lost 6-4 and dropped out of the tournament with extreme nausea. Concussions don't really seem to affect me much until the adrenaline wears off, and then I puke my guts out. Outside of that, I defeated everyone who ever squared off against me. I loved that sport. I used to have a pre-fight song that I listened to on my Sony Walkman before I stepped out on the mat. It was Judas Priest - Hard As Iron. Every time I listened to that song, I proceeded to go out and fight and win. When I listen to it now, even after all these years, this calm and relaxed but alert and focused state falls over me. I immediately enter the zone.

Nice to see that the biggest champion of my hometown Schifferstadt is still unforgotten. Back in the 1970s my handball team trained in the same gym as the wrestling team and we met Wilfried Dietrich and his team mates all the time, we even shared the same locker rooms and showers. I'm still impressed how those olympic heroes including Dietrich respected us as fellow athletes, although they were competing on a much higher level than my handball team. That's how true sportsmen show.... I also remember watching Dietrich's famous victory over Chris Taylor live on TV as a teenager. I could not believe what I was seeing.
