If you want another good spot to video trains as they start climbing the hill, look at the intersection of Desoto St. and Petit St. There is a small road that goes between the tracks and a manufacturing building that gives you great top down views. Parking is a little hard but great spot.

Does # 1 Engineer Gaylen Still Work For TCW ?
I think he is retired.
On the old Milwaukee Road!❤
Yuck that new light rail line looks ugly! In my opinion, it was a big waste of money for something like that. I think it should’ve been a commuter line instead revitalizing the old M&StL line between Hopkins and Carver.
My Favorite spot is Spring Street Jct in Northeast Minneapolis I catch right off Central Ave Overpass 😊
The TC&W track looked a lot better with Milwaukee Road locomotives on it.
Thank You!
Welcome!
The last car was different. Is it a cafe car?😅
Correct, it is the cafe car.
Another cool video with some nice catches once again. Have a wonderful rest of your evening.(Steve)
Thanks, you too!
@@MNRails Your welcome and thank you also.
This isn’t really about the “new” Soo Line as it was conceived in 1960 but let’s go back even farther than that to 1883 and the incorporation of the “old” Soo; The Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie, by Minneapolis grain milling interests looking for a way to get better rates to the east by going around rather than through Chicago. Canadian Pacific stood to gain a lot of traffic and immediately took a large interest, long before any “merger.” The Old Soo expanded into Wisconsin and Michigan and ran lines into North Dakota to siphon off some grain traffic from the future Great Northern. Soo Line worked with the Wisconsin Central, eventually leasing it. When one thinks of the old Soo it just seems natural that the WC was part of it and was to a large extent. The “poor cousin” to the Soo and WC was the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic, a hopelessly money-losing line with little traffic that paralleled the southern side of Lake Superior. Ag products, forest products, a smattering of iron ore and bridge traffic from the CP was what the three railroads carried and it wasn’t enough to keep any of them out of receivership. To this day, Wisconsin Central still holds the record of 21 years in bankruptcy court. It eventually became apparent that it was merge or die for the three railroads and on December 30th, 1960, the three railroads merged to become the Soo Line Railroad Company. Canadian Pacific became the majority stockholder as it had been for each of the three railroads forming the “new Soo.” Traffic on the new Soo remained the same but the railroad remained short of motive power. The merger enabled the company to buy new power and the red and light gray (it was never white) scheme was developed by Wallace abbey, the new Soo’s communications director. The new Soo was a drag freight railroad and remained so until the CP purchased the remainder of the stock and exercised full control. At that point in time the “new Soo” became the “new-new Soo” and became the iteration we see today. It shed many online customers on the Paynesville sub and became a nearly exclusive bridge line for CP. The new Soo relied heavily on F7’s, GP30’s, a few GP35’s and a few GP40’s. Then they started buying SD40’s before engorging on SD40-2’s and GP38-2’s. The SD60’s were the new Soo’s last power before the CP transformation. If you look at the Paynesville sub on Google Earth you’ll be hard pressed to find any online customers. It’s simply a conduit for Canadian traffic all the way down to Mexico now.
Awesome Shawn! Thanks.
Thanks for watching Mike!

Excellent, well done! High-quality content!
Much appreciated!
Excellent contrast between freight rail and light rail at the Excelsior bridge scene. Great video overall, nice lens work...
Great video! Love the panning to keep all the locos in the shot. Is it common for there to be other lead units on the TC&W trains such as the CSX/CP units?
Thanks to unit ethanol and grain, you’ll see TC&W, RRV&W, CPKCS, UP, NS and CSX power, plus the occasional movement of the Friends of 261 passenger excursions. One road you won’t see on the TC&W is BNSF. Haven’t seen any CN or FerroMex on the TC&W but any and all power is seen on the BNSF’s Wayzata sub. I live in the “V” created by the TC&W/SWLRT corridor and the BNSF’s former GN line to Willmar and points west. I hear the trains on TC&W but watch the BNSF trains roll by. TC&W is host to the most beautiful horn sounds in the world-soon to be augmented by light rail train sounds.
Like1️⃣🚂🏁An excellent touch in each video, I leave my like friend, continue like this
Tried to catch this railroad recently but it was on a weekend and the only train I found was tied down in Hopkins. Love the downtown shot. I’m curious as to where Cedar Lake JCT is?
Cedar Lake jct is just west of the downtown shot by about 1/2 mile. It's where the TCW leaves the BNSF Wayzata sub.
@@MNRails that’s what I was thinking… thx
Very nice. Nice to see a 6 powered lashup of just TCWR locomotives without a RRVW locomotive thrown in it.
