Pray for Jay-Honestly I forget that I am 70 except that I run out of steam a bit faster then I used too. Riding, diet, exercise, and stretching has kept me going. Yes the joints gripe a bit. Getting my first ebike in a couple months and looking forward to long rides again! Your going to love your ebike Phil. Great channel!

I’m with you on most things but your calorie burn count is way off. Average pedal biker with continuous cadence averages 400 calories an hour. I love e-bikes. I’ve lost 30 pounds…. But an hour on an ebike is not equivalent to an hour on a traditional bicycle. Yes they are exercise, but calories burned is directly related to energy output and I don’t use as much personal energy with a pedal assist…. Which is what makes it fun.

I’m an Ebike addict. Had all kinds. Cargo/ fat tire/ throttle Jockey 12:19 / custom build. I’ve experienced good with bad. I want to say, I converted and old bike… fun project that never ends. Spokes snapped with the weight, had to go to mag wheels, bearings go out with so many miles, 700c tires don’t like the weight either, brakes last a month tops. Long story short normal bikes aren’t reinforced enough to handle the difference in riding. Cost effective now to just buy an ebike with proper brakes and frame welding.

The 20x4 e-bike I have is one of the many Mate X clones from China. It has the frame geometry of an overgrown BMX. That has taken some getting used to! The almost vertical Slack angle made the steering very twitchy. I changed the narrow (folding) 550mm handle bar for a 700mm 'Jones' one, and put the 20 inch wheel on a 26 inch fork. The new fork also increased the suspension from 50mm to 120mm. Those changes solved both the twitchiness and made it a much more comfortable ride and riding position. Fatty.

Personally, the full-on, 4" or more fat tire is not for me. 2.3" to 3" is where I like tires. There is plenty of comfort with less real estate to pick up nails with, and less rolling resistance for pedaling. I also don't like 20" or 24" wheels. 26" or more is important to me so I can keep pedaling all the way up to 28mph at a comfortable pace. As to what motor for a conversion? I feel that Grin Tech's All-Axle motor is the very best on the market.

🔹"Cheating?" Cheating who? It doesn't matter whether or not I'm getting (someone else's idea of) exercise. I don't want to train for a marathon bicycle race. Aside from the fact that an e-bike is fun, mine serves a practical function for my living situation. I live on a boat and travel around. An e-bike with a cargo trailer is more practical than a car or truck because I can take the bike with me when I travel. I don't get into the exercise argument because frankly, my level of exercise is no ones business but mine and my doctor's (if I had one). 🔹An e-bike *doesn't* go over 25 to 30 mph. In most states if it exceeds that speed it legally becomes a "motorized vehicle" subject to licenses, registration, and insurance requirements for motor vehicles in that state. People too lazy to research their state laws and push their bikes up to 40 and 50 mph have turned their bicycles into electric motorcycles subject to all the state's laws concerning motorcycles and some hefty fines if they don't follow those laws. 🔹In the state of Louisiana (for one example), e-bike or bicycle, it is unlawful NOT to have at least one hand on the handle bars at all times while moving. You can be ticketed if a Cop sees you do it. 9:52 🔹The federal government is about to pass some restrictive laws concerning e-bikes and one of the main reasons for it is that (some) e-bike riders tend to break traffic laws ... because ...??? 8:18 and 11:58 People giving e-bike advice on YT need to make sure they are operating in accordance with the laws of their state, at least while recording. You may find your videos being used in congressional hearings to justify their proposed federal restrictions on e-bikes.

My short answer is YES. Now I will watch the remainder of the video. [ fatty ] and my answer is still YES, 100% Everything you said, road test it, yes / crap roads, yes / weight of more than compensated for by the fat tire and motor, yes / Hub motor, love it. Tried a mid-drive, no thanks. My knee and back (and I am not a big heavy guy) are much happier with the hub. / Mustang, it's a car, who cares ;-) P.S. the owner of the e-bike store said many companies are phasing out the really wide fat tires. Wha-? Really?

Fatty. Fat tires pretty much advertise that you're on an eBike. I tried one when I was testing eBikes and it was nice, but ultimately I went with a thinner tire for less road noise and resistance. I tried an Aventon Adventure, and the road, chain and motor noise was significantly louder than the Magnum Peak T5 I eventually went for. The Magnum uses a generic battery style so I was able to get a (bigger) spare without being tied to Magnum's prices. I've since replaced the 2.75" tires with 1.75" tires for even less noise and rolling resistance, as I mostly ride on paved surfaces anyway. That also extended my range.

Good video, subscribed. Your failing to mention different types of fat tires. I have a Lectric XPremium which is a folding frame 4x20 bike with those balloon style knobby tires with a max pressure of 20 psi and that bike feels like a wet noodle. I just bought a 4x20 Fucare Scorpio which is a non folder with road style tires rated at 30 psi. It is so much better as far as handling and less rolling resistance than the 20 psi knobby balloon tires in the Lectric. The Fucare Scorpio has a very solid trellis style frame also. Look it up, a great bike with lots of great features for $1100. Ps I weigh 260. What are you inflating your tires to? The Fucare has Arisun tires and I REALLY like them
