A Quick Afternoon Artifact Hunt
Quick evening artifact hunt. The highlight of this hunt for me was finding a small, cutting knife. I can imagine a small cutting tool like this being perfect for gutting fish and processing ones catch! Thanks for watching!

A Couple Weeks of Finds! Artifact Hunting The Susquehanna River!
zhlédnutí 665Před měsícem
This is a compilation of several weeks of artifact hunting a section of the Susquehanna river. I filmed this more than a year ago, but it was a very memorable series of hunts. These hunts produced an awesome variety of tools and artifacts as well as a variety of lithics. Thanks for stopping by to join me.
4th of July 2022 Started With a Bang! Pennsylvania Arrowhead Hunting!

This was a memorable hunt shot a couple years ago on the Fourth of July morning. I believe the biface to be a form of indurated shale. I have not found any hardened shale in my area similar. I believe this material was possibly transported from other parts in the state. I believe several of the artifacts I found over the years are made out of this indurated shale. This specific biface is one of...

Second one you found looks like a hide scraper to me, good finds 🤠
Thanks, Rory! I have had a blast discovering some of these old time prices, so glad you could watch and write! All the best to you! Ben
Nice little hunt, that flake tool is pretty cool. River is still up a little bit but I may go for a little walk tomorrow myself and check things out. Thanks for sharing!
You know, some people would probably laugh at that little flake, or think it very insignificant. I happen to think it’s a treasure. You could see that thought went into it, and it was definitely used to process some wild catch or something else of the sorts. Definitely the perfect little tool for the job. Thanks so much for watching my friend. I wish you the best on your upcoming hunts and I hope the river cooperates for us this year. Take care! Ben
@@TheTribeOfBenjamin You're right, and most people overlook them, but they were an important part of the tool kit. It's part of the total story.
An awesome job on your hunt today!! Many treasures..!! And 1 little mini knife...that could be used for " harvest/ butchering " rabbits,or foul...what a find...??!! Thanks for sharing!! C ya on the next video!! 🪶🏹🧙♂️🐺🏹🪶
Thank you, GreyWolf! That little knife is one of the neatest things. I can just picture someone down by the river using it to process some of their wild catch! It’s everyday tools like this one that really get me excited. So glad I could share some more of my finds with everyone! All the best! Thanks a lot for stopping by to write! Ben

Could have easily have been settlers working gun flints for several of those pieces.
Hi thanks for stopping and for writing. Ben
So cool that Barney Rubble has a you-tube channel. Say hello to Fred for me. Yabba Dabba Dooooooooo!
Thanks for the cool comment, Wojohowitz!
The gonna knap any of that grey flint?
With my tools, I could probably only break off pieces and make small shavers for arrow construction primarily. Small microlith type arrow head points could definitely be made in the same way but I don’t play with them much. I usually use stuff like this for making tools and cutters and little saws. Someday when I get good like you with the indirect work, maybe I can maximize the smaller pieces more. One of these days I’ll get some out to you. I bet you would be able to do a lot with these small rocks. take care, Jay and thanks a lot for writing.
Enjoying seeing what you find down that way.
Thanks my friend! Hope to be out soon as the river levels drop.
Where are you at on the Susquehanna? Im from Lancaster County. I grew up looking for artfacts with friends from Washington Boro and Millersville.
Northeast Pennsylvania, my friend. The north branch of the Susquehanna River. You’re in a good location. I’ve seen a lot of artifacts pulled from your parts and I particularly am fond of the Jasper down there. Thanks for writing. Great to hear from you. Ben
Very nice! officially retired soon and looking forward to looking again
That sounds great! I’m really happy for you. I wish you a healthy and productive retirement filled with lots of arrowhead hunting! All the best.! Ben
nice
Thanks Josh ! Glad you could watch. Ben
Cool finds! Especially those bonus pieces. It sure is neat to be able to pick up a tool or blade that was last held by the person that made it long ago. A real connection to the past.
It really is a cool connection. I’m like a kid every time I find one. I’ve always enjoyed seeing your hunts and hearing you talk about some of the great artifacts you’ve collected over the years. I hope you find some time to get out and walk those fields, Paleoman ! Great to hear from you. Thanks so much for writing! Ben
Great finds! I'm super jealous!
Thanks so much for writing! It took me a long time to know what to look for and where. Learning how to knap and produce utility tools like these, really helps you see them when you are crawling around looking. Have fun my friend! Ben
A magnificent gathering of pieces! Soooo much in that " cache" area!! Wow!!! Good work Ben! 👍🦊🧙♂️🐺🤙
Thank you so much for writing! I’m glad I could share these amazing finds with everyone! Hunting for these pieces is a lot easier in the rain because all the stones come alive when wet. Great to hear from you my friend!
Keep on exploring the area...there are some special pieces...yet to be shared...you are the one to bring them to light..as it were! . 🤙🧙♂️🐺👍
Cool finds! Where are you from, maybe we'll run into one another one day. I'm in Luzerne County..good luck !
Thanks for writing and watching! We might just run into each other sometime. I’ll be the kid crawling along all fours on the bank line😃. All these pieces come out of Luzerne county I do believe. All the best!
I find these often, a lot of people overlook them. You showed some nice examples..😎👍
Another historical cache find ..in the "wet bed " areas of a stream..awesome find!! Thanks!! 🦊🧙♂️🐺
Yes, that is a very special spot and it’s amazing to think about the people who were there living their lives. I think that’s one of the things I enjoy most about rediscovering some of these old skills, is that I feel connected to a time forgotten, and people who lived and thrived by their environment. It’s funny to see how times have changed as I reflect on how these people must’ve lived. just something I often think about. Take care my friend, and thanks so much for always watching and writing all the best. Ben

Looks like a perfect string survival backpack. The actual shell holding up the bag must be nice since it makes the bag a bit more rigid and solid. Love to see videos like these where people make something useful primitively especially out of what looks like some scraps. Thanks for the video and I found the rain/running water in the back plus the no commentary style to be quite calming.
Thanks so much for writing! Really glad you enjoyed the video. I was happy that I was able to use some of the scrap and leftovers I had around. These are one of the earlier projects I started making way back when and I’ve always taken to them For some reason. I’m glad to own this one and I hope to use it a lot on my outings. All the best, my friend, take care! Ben
$$$ the jackpot!!!!!$$$ In particular..the 2nd point!! A perfect " bird point"! Wow!!?? 🏹🐺🧙♂️🦊🏹
I was thrilled to find that perfect little triangle bird point! That’s the first point I found that I can envision being right on the end of an arrow. so glad that you could watch and write. This was a memorable hunt for me!
As it would be for anyone who respects the craft n art Of knapping!! Keep that piece n use it as a model for Other arrows..that style of point, can go on a shaft up to 3/8" wide..with fletchings up to 7" long, and from the arrow head tip when hafted into the shaft..to end of knock..can fly well up to 34" long arrows..!! The bird point, with that combo simply opens the door for the harvest!! It is going to last for many hunts of ( big game), as well as large foul!! Jus some " from the field " real hands on build experience!! Thanks for sharing!! 👍🦊🧙♂️🐺🤙
Interesting trail..to investigate ,n , explore!!?? 🐺🧐🦊🍀👍
Absolutely, this is a fun place to explore. I am always amazed by the fossils I find at this little spot. Thanks so much for writing, my friend. Keep having fun out there!
Sharp looking stuff, even the tiny fossils looked like a galaxy. Is your brother into the primitive adventure as well Ben ?
Thank you for writing, my friend! I live in an area of shale stone. It can be sharp but brittle. I believe some of the artifacts I own are made from a hardened or “indurated” shale. I believe that material may have been sourced elsewhere in the state and is predictably knappible. Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed collecting fossils, and there are a lot around these parts. My Brother is a good sport and humors me once in a while. Maybe one of these days when each of us is not so busy, we could do some real camping like we always talk about! All the best and thanks again for writing! Ben

Thanks brother! That’s what I said too! All the best my friend. Thanks for stopping by.
That was an amazing specimen you guys found. That had to be fun! Just the anticipation of what’s inside every rock you’d crack open would’ve made it exciting, even better that y’all found something like that. It’d look cool displayed on a shelf. Take care buddy!
Hey Dale! I gotta admit that really caught me by surprise when I cracked open that rock. It seems like every rock I was splitting open had shells and clams all throughout it, but this one was definitely different. I yelled at first “ it’s a prehistoric carrot.” my buddy who’s a geologist sent a picture to one of his professors and helped identify it. I’m amazed at some of the detail that is still preserved in this piece. Maybe one of these days I’ll get to display it like you suggested. it is a cool piece and I’m thrilled to have it. thanks so much buddy. It’s been great seeing what you’ve been up to! Have fun. Ben
That is so cool! I've looked for places like that to take my girlfriend to around here, she loves fossils. Haven't found much except for a few shell fossils in some river cobbles. Great finds!..👍
Hey, thanks for checking out the video! I first discovered this place when I was a small kid going fishing. I started looking at the footpath, and everything was fossils, and I’ve always been mesmerized by fossils. The dam that we were fishing at was entirely built out of this shale rock. Wherever they sourced the Stone to construct this retained waterway, it must’ve came from a huge fossil deposit because the stones are littered with them. Thanks for writing, Man! Have fun!
An adventure, to be sure!! Quite a find!! Congrats!! Preciate ya'll!! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐺🧙♂️!!!!!

Thank you so much, my friend! I have in mind to make a couple more pieces of new clothing when the time arrives. I have hides in different stages of preservation. some as rawhide some hanging with salt and others in my freezer.😄 Buckskin was one of those mysteries to me that took me a long time to figure out how to make. It still amazes me every time you go from a slimy, wet animal skin to a soft , warm and durable piece of material. It is truly one of natures, amazing mysteries and wonders, and I’m so thankful every time I’m able to watch the transformation take place in my hands. All the best and thanks for writing! Ben
