This Old Boat, is a channel for all those people who say "I wish I lived on the water". It is an amazing life style, but also challenging. I hope that through these videos you will have the skills needed to one day step on to your own boat and set sail. Come along with me and let's find that horizon together.
andiamo for sale
Due to recent health issues it is time for me to part with my Andiamo. I hope she will find a good captain to take her to the next great adventure.

Basic Electrical Systems
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 7 lety
All cruising boats have two electrical systems. Alternating Current (AC) when you are at the dock, and Direct Current (DC), when you are underway. This video is intended to give the new boat owner a basic understanding of the two systems and how they are used.
The Annual Haul
zhlédnutí 64Před 7 lety
This video discusses the Annual Haul out of our boat and the items you should consider when storing your boat or preparing to launch her after and extended leave.
Marine AC maintenance
zhlédnutí 51KPřed 8 lety
This video address’s the maintenance of a marine air conditioning system. Most AC systems on boats exchange the heat generated during the cooling process with incoming sea water. The problem is that over a long hot summer the lines supplying that cooling water become clogged with mud and bio-matter. Here is the way you clean out the system and keep that cool air coming.
Jabsco Toilet Rebuild
zhlédnutí 16KPřed 8 lety
This video shows a total rebuilding of a Jabsco marine toilet. The rebuild was needed due to a leak in the intake elbow which soaked the structural plywood floor base.
Lectra San Brine Tank
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed 8 lety
This is a follow up to my first video on the Lectra San head system. When not in the ocean the system needs salt water to operate, hence the need for a brine tank when in fresh water.
Blisters on the hull
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 8 lety
This video discusses what hull blisters are on a fiberglass boat and how and when to treat them.
Replacing Jabsco Marine Toilet Pump
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 8 lety
Description: We have two heads on our Erwin 38, both Jabsco, so I have become knowledgeable about how this system works and sometimes doesn't work.
Bilge Cleaning
zhlédnutí 23KPřed 8 lety
Description: Cleaning of your bilge is a nasty but necessary activity on the boat. Live-aboards especially need to pay attention to this because the build up can happen very quickly.
Basic Knots
zhlédnutí 25Před 10 lety
This video shows how to tie some of the basic knots you will use on-board and at the dock Part of good seamanship is knowing how and where to use a correctly tied knot. Practice so they can be tied with great speed because your life or the lives of your crew may depend on it.
Battery Maintenance
zhlédnutí 25Před 10 lety
This video show how to maintain your lead/acid batteries.
Cleaning of the Lectra San sanitation system
zhlédnutí 20KPřed 10 lety
Description This video shows the assembly of a Lectra San sanitation system aboard the Andiamo. Details on how to clean and maintain the system covered in this video
Cleaning water intake system
zhlédnutí 29KPřed 10 lety
Description This video shows how to clean the water intake system on This Old Boat. It also contains a contest to win a "special tool" that will help in the cleaning and maintenance process aboard ship.
Two things I noticed... 1: your hoses should have double hose clamps at each connecting point. 2: your sea strainer does not appear to be bonded. You should run a ground wire to the ships bonding strap to reduce corrosion.
you are going to regret using petroleum jelly on that gasket!
I’ve not seen a maintenance video for boat AC. Thanks!
Might I suggest some lamps. They make for a better viewing. On the other hand, you arm is constantly in the way of suject. And get farther away from the subject marterial. Lights, lights, lights…..
Fuel key
Just been looking for my Vaseline on the boat but can't find it
Is it safe to use a ozone generator in that compartiment that lodges the system?
Thanks Capitan!
I get the perko vs groco mixed up! I have one on the engine raw water intake and one on the a/c intake... what brand of sea strainer is that one you have? I have one too just dont know which is which in case i need to replace etc.
This is scary bad and dangerous. Read Dan Calder and ignore this guy.
No hose clamps??
I removed and cleaned the strainer, but now I'm getting a high pressure lockout message on unit, any ideas of what that might be?
lack of air or water flow. check air filter and coil for dust and check if seacock is opened all the way check if underwater pick up isn't clogged. if you've already fixed it what did you find wrong? fan blades can get really dusty and not move enough air also.
What did you use to make the repair
Is this the 41 or 42 or 43?
I don't understand why you didn't fix those two blisters on this haul out...especially since they are fairly good size and you were already repairing other osmotic issues. Not trying to be rude but I don't understand how a blister can be "pretty solid."
I always knew Trump had a long lost brother lost at sea
How do you winterize the electro scan ??
Pin wrench
Should not put Vaseline on gaskets. Use silicon grease.
What is your email? I have a question you may could help me with
Hi, steve. Can you eliminate the holding tank using this?
Yes. We have two heads the forward has a tank, the stern head uses the lestra San. If you are in salt water there is no problem with the sanitization. In fresh or mostly fresh you will need to add a brine tank to the system for good operation.
I can not get my setting bracket off because it’s so rusted any tips?.
See if you can pry it up a little and cut it off.
Beautiful, but need specs and price please...right up front. :)
He's asking 50k+ and probably will be for a long time lol
only an ammeter uses silicone below the waterline. also, looks like you have a real problem with stray current, as green as that strainer is.
IMHO get rid of that terribly designed float switch. It has small apertures and fiddly small parts that will need supervision and frequent cleanings. The amount of debris in the bilge might be able to be strained out before it can travel to the float switch/bilge pump. Good luck
The cap for the strainer should be HAND TIGHT. Using a pin wrench to tighten it is why the mount cracked from the bulkhead. Hand tight is MORE than sufficient to cap the strainer
It's the GROCO spanner wrench and man I sure need one, LOL. Thank you for being the first video that actually showed me how to clean the raw water strainer. I am cursed with the bronze cap.The cap was so corroded I struggled to figure out the name of the device.
I applaud you being able to do this one handed! 😊. I find it hard enough without having to hold a camera. Nice job on the video...easy to follow and understand! ⛵️⛵️
Sorry but in addition to where it's just plain bad practice, it's not helpful. Just pointing to things and saying "this is where" doesn't help someone trying to learn. "This is abus... where a bunch of things...
Thank you Steven, I needed to see which way round the base gasket went, it turns out that my toilet is a Lavac and has four pips not three. Solution, I trimmed the extra one off. When it was changed to the Jabsco cylinder pump, some time ago this had not been done, probably why it always dripped a bit. Also the new screws that came with the kit were used, it turns out that they are longer than the Lavac ones, so I had to file them down a bit, roughly 2-3 m which did the trick. Solved. for information, I did not buy the whole pump after careful consideration I bought the pump body kit, (Cylinder Assembly, Jabsco part number 29051-2000). It came with, the base gasket, the trumpet valve for the waste and the "top" pump gasket/valves, including the plastic bit. Which is most of the service kit plus the cylinder. It cost roughly half the money of the whole pump. Yes cleaning the old parts is not fun but it saved me £40 and I can wash. Thanks for the vid, it helped me when I needed it.
Good job
Lexisan? Are you try to say Lectra San ?
i was cleaning my screen out on the back deck as i will never do again and dropped it into about 30 ft of water..where can i get a new one
Red is neutral? On a DC system? Really?
Preferable to not use Vaseline on a rubber gasket because Vaseline is petroleum based and therefore hastens the deterioration of the rubber. The only lubricant that should be used on rubber is a synthetic (I.e. not petroleum based) grease such as Super Lube Synthetic Grease.
My god it looks like a rats nest. I never under stand people who do not take the time in doing this type of work. It is a safety issue.
i dont think he knows whats up. the battery thing kill it .
Hi. I want to remove my head but can't find the manual. It looks like a Jabsco type ITT with with a long handle for pumping. Any ideas where to download a manual perhaps or tips on removal sequence greatly appreciated.
well now I wont be disassembling my Groco strainer un-necessarily.
solid wire on a boat.
Solid wire would be a no no on a boat.
"Spanner Wrench"
Shouldn't DC negative be yellow?
On older boats you will almost always see they used black wire for DC negative...however newer systems use yellow wire in an effort to reduce any confusion where both AC and DC exist like on bigger boats...because on AC systems black equals hot or live..Yellow is indeed the proper color for DC negative nowadays.
Battery set up described is in parallel, not in series.
GLOVES!
It a spanner! Lol
anytime some fool starts talking about positives in an AC system.. just click off !
It's a water cap taker offer thingy....
I get it
