You might like the Half Dome hike in Yosemite, California. My brother and I started around 5am, reached the peak, and barely made it back before nightfall.

"it's not hard to remove this pain" - but it obviously is because I suffered for over a decade before giving up and going climbing instead. I probably spent £10k on different bikes, saddles, other equipment and bike fits etc - not all was geared towards trying to make a road bike comfortable but a substantial amount of it was, including buying new bikes to try and find a comfortable one. Every bike fitter was like James and told you "bish bash bosh, I can fix it" and they were all very confident about their pet theory for how a bike should bit. But none of them actually set me up with a bike that was comfortable to ride. Here's the real problem - it always felt better while they were adjusting things, swapping things making changes with me jumping on and off the bike. There's the same level of attention and having someone listening to you talking about cycling that you no doubt get with homeopathy and alternative medicine - on the day it feels great and you get a big smile at the thought you'll be able to enjoy cycling. But it didn't stick first ride you had afterwards the discomfort is there. Nothing I did or anyone else made a bicycle comfortable for more than an hour. And doing 3+ hour rides? Would be agony. And I pretty much knew the next bike fitter I visit was going to shake his head and say "No wonder...you need this and that" and they'd move the saddle somewhere else, change a few parts, charge you £300 or more - get you to buy another bike etc etc - and it just reached the point where it was clear that none of them really had any clue and neither did I - and 12 years of discomfort and pain was enough. Worse were the bike shops who started blaming you like "None of us are getting any younger"

*low whistle* blimey indeed. Those are some expensive rims. I see super luxe bikes like that in the area I live, because it is a well-moneyed area. It's fun to occasionally talk to the riders about their equipment. I am always agog at the technological advancements. Electronic shifters, Witchcraft!

I've been running and cycling for 45 years and haven't been injured as a result of either for decades. Well, aside from several accidents, but I meant through the actual activities and their effects on your muscles, bones and tissues. The key, I think, for cycling, is to get a decent bike that's properly sized for you, fit it properly in terms of shoes, cleats, saddle, stem, etc., and their positions, and ride at as high a cadence as feels comfortable for you, and never mash gears going uphill unless you're super fit and a racer. For running, I find that getting a good pair of shoes that fit your feet type properly,, running as much as you can on soft surfaces, such as grass, dirt, trails, etc., and and not overdoing it is the key. Basically, don't just get on any old bike and mash gears like you're a pro racer, or run in cheap shoes on sidewalks faster and longer than you're capable of. Do that and you should be fine. The real challenge is staying motivated enough to keep at it once the novelty wears off or conditions aren't great. I found that getting a quality indoor trainer made all the difference and kept me exercising through winter. I'm at the point in my life where I just can't deal with exercising in cold and wet weather regularly. Btw I was confused about your friend The Girl Outdoors as there's a similarly named channel called Girl Outdoors, by a young British woman who posts videos about bushcraft, hiking, camping, vanlife and bikepacking.

I got my PADI basic open water license many years ago but haven't scuba dived in over 30 years, and where I live there's not much of the sort of diving that I'd want to do to justify this expensive and potentially dangerous hobby. But I would like to try it again someday, especially when on vacation in more tropical regions. I've dived in the Red Sea which is one of the top spots for diving in the world, and it's spectacular. Of course in many places one can get much of the experience of scuba diving by snorkeling, and if you're in decent shape and can hold your breath for over a minute you can even dive to a modest depth to get a closer view. It's a lot cheaper and safer and you don't need to worry about equipment or logistics. I'll now add this to my list of things to do or do again. Long list, never enough time!

Oh and red cleats, definite no-no, strictly for racers. Even blue seems risky. Been riding the yellows for over 20 years and my knees are fine.

Hey it's that guy from that cycling channel and that girl from that music channel! Two of my favorite things in one channel and video. Although I keep putting off a proper bike fit because the way my bike's set up feel good to me and I'm afraid that I'll find out that everything's off and needs to be replaced and not just adjusted and I just can't afford that right now. 45 years of cycling and no cycling-related injuries so I think I'd doing ok.

My last bike was an 11 speed Di2 Ultegra. My new bike is a 12 speed Di2 Ultegra. I paid $3500 for each bike by buying them from Bikes Direct. They would have cost probably over $5000 if I bought a big name brand.

I did a bike-fit last year, after road biking for some years. Really felt like a whole other experience, on without knee, neck and back pain. New saddle and countless adjustments done on the bike without buying anything other then the saddle. After you’re done you regret not seeing the bike-fit earlier on.
