Exploring Small Scale Grain Harvesting part 1
This video looks at scything wheat and introduces a grain cradle modified from a traditional Slovak style bow. The film shows how to assemble and adjust the cradle, which is made from green hazel and a length of bent copper pipe. It also examines the effects of mowing style on getting the wheat to fall neatly in the windrow and the final section looks at gathering the cut wheat. This is the first of a series of short films I hope to produce on the subject of small scale grain harvesting.
Limitations
The cradle is shown attached to an Austrian style two-grip snath. I found this arrangement very workable but I am not sure if it is the most appropriate snath and grip setup for this cradle.
Here are some links providing more information on scything, training courses and purchase of scythes:

Nice work
God bless you sir!
Mantap
Before cultivating use about 1lb fertilizer for expected 100 lb wheat. total N P with 5-10% SO4...you will most likely double your yield and higher protein. Your tiller will use more petroleum than is use to make the fertilizer.
Excellent. Thanks.
Nicely done! I'm impressed with the ammount of effort you put into every aspect of it!
Wow, just wow!
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Very relaxing well done for your efforts. I might just give it a try.
I'm so happy I found your video. Thank you for your instruction!!
Wow that soil prep paid off!
A real máster Sr.. one of the most strait to the point videos I have seen on you tube. Easy to see and very well illustrated.
Thank God most content creators have stopped putting background music under narration.
Hope one day I will be able to grow my on. ❤
Cheers!
I grew a passion for baking sourdough breads throughout my culinary career. Getting to see the entire process from start to finish is amazing. Bread is so versatile and has such a profound connection to the human race. The smell of the fresh milled grain must be like heaven, especially after all the hard work behind growing it

2023. I'm here following a link from 'Maximus Ironthumper'. What a fasinating and enjoyable video.
Me to there both great 👍
Maximius Ironthumper says he is far superior at growing bread than you!
It has just dawned on me this was 13yrs ago you are most likely already dead RIP :(
Briliiant.
Brilliant. What a great threshing machine. I hope you are doing well, 13 years later.
I know it maybe some years now but I’d like to know how much wheat did you sow and how much harvest did you get back?
Wish I could have a better slower demo of wheat being tied together with wheat.
Very enlightening
Thank you. What is your average yield? Do you plant an acre? I need to feed my chickens over the winter and was thinking of planting one acre however I am not sure if that would yield enough feed. But I figure you may be able to clue me in on that..?
I'd like to have the plans for the thresher
Tou guys need to pay attention to how loud the music you are overlaying is. Not only is it way to loud, it drowns out your speaking
How do I find the plans for the threshing machine?
well done and yes, I'd love to see how you make the threshing machine.
For such a short video I have learned so much. You are a genius with your own machines. Both videos are wonderful. Looking to buy a farmhouse and land to grow my own wheat, vegetables and other goodies. Thank you very much sir for taking the time to make these videos. May the LORD bless you and your family.
This is many years old. I hope you are doing well Stephen
Wow! It is so beautiful!
How can I get the simple machinery you used to make halo
Excellent video. Nice work.
Good job.
dam i like your video very well done
Very interesting! Thanks from Savoie !
Thank you for such an informative video.
Simply marvelous, Stephen!
Really inspiring, having limited space I like to grow everything in buckets. How feasible would wheat be bucket grown, starting on a small scale to practice/trouble shoot....Much appreciated.
Where is part 2?
A wonderful video. I enjoyed it all. And at the end I spotted one of my DK rocket stoves making your brew..
