Ain’t no way y’all so sympathetic for Martin lmao
fleabag being in the room with a glass of wine reminds me of when my friend was talking to her lawyer outside law office about leaving her husband and i was just there supporting her, eating french fries.
"I bet because I have this beard you think I'm really hairy. but... I'm not... . . . shaaaaveddd..."
Nawp, the main problem is you're crap and not even useful crap.
I love the use of "Kneel" here
Makes me wonder if it's drawing some parallel with the earlier scene of the priest telling fleabag to kneel in the confession booth
@@itayschool4544 oh it absolutely is
Fleabag deserves a proper Apology from Claire
Me parte la cabeza, me encanta<3
So this is what Murray did before he moved to Hawkins.
That’s not even the bare minimum for a married person
You know this show has great writing when a hated character starts to be 3-Dimensional. While yes, I can sympathize for his character but it doesn't mean it is excuseable. But I do feel sad for him, he did try in his own way to make her feel good, however their relationship was doomed right from the get-go, they're fundamentally too different people.
And my take on this is a bit of a double standards. Yes, fleebag is an enjoyable character in contrast to Martin, but she is definitely worse. She cheated on her best friend's partner which caused her to commit suicide. I don't see it as gaslighting, or a desperate attempt to win back Claire. I think its quiet pent up rage that he kept in the course of their relationship as Claire's disgust towards him is palpable but he chose to quietly acknowledge it. It's still his mistake however for not choosing to become a better husband for her, atleast we see Fleebag tries to change for the better.
I still don’t know how I feel about him yet. I personally think that people missed the point of his character. The show isn’t trying to tell you “Hey look at the guy he’s the worst person ever” it’s trying to encourage Claire to find her own happiness despite how sad he is. The show has shown there are people who are bad people that you can keep in contact with despite their ugliness, Fleabag’s godmother, the businessman who sexually harassed a woman multiple times and even Fleabag herself but there are some people that despite the fact they’re just flawed people also actively make your life worse. You can justify it by saying “Everybody’s flawed” but when it actively hurts your own life you have to make the decision if it’s worth it for you. The same way Fleabag’s boyfriend Harry had to leave her and we still like Fleabag. Martin is a character you can feel sympathy for but Claire still has to learn to love Klare (Herself lol) rather than stay in a stagnant relationship out of pity, it is not good for the growth of herself or Martin who admits he fears that she didn’t like him for 11 years. The hardest part of life is not letting go of cartoonish villains, it’s easy to go, “he’s evil bye 👋”. The hardest part is letting go of human people who you feel bad for to live your own life. Some things just don’t work out and it’s hard to explain and even justify sometimes.
I love how Americans always appear in movies to wreck people/marriages. The men will break the women emotionally, and the women "homewreck." Ladies, hide your husbands from American women. Single women, stay away from American men.
honestly one of the best justifications from a shitty person wver
Love Claire's unhesitant "Absolutely not!" when he tells Fleabag to fuck off. The two of them finally standing against him.
their relationship made me so happy. And during the ceremony when Claire says “the only person I’d run through an airport for is you”. I may have cried 🥺
This scene has stayed with me ever since first watching this in 2019. I find myself randomly thinking “please leave me!” out of nowhere. I love how she found her power kneeling and It’s not some big cinematic moment, it’s understated and human. By the time she stands up she’s free.
I just realized claire wanted fleabag to stay bc on some level she was worried that martin might get physical with her
I just realized Martin was okay with Fleabag staying so he'd have a witness because he was worried claire might leverage a fake domestic abuse allegation against him.
@@robocat9x why would she ?
@@robocat9x bruh what?!
Am I wrong?? If I am please let me know. I'll wait.
@robocat9x yeah, cause he is the one that historically lied about being sa'd
TBH Fleabag admitted to doing worse things than he ever did, I don't really get how people hate him so much when they can cheer on fleabag. Divorce is for the best though, he is clearly very sad with Claire and Claire is sad with him.
I cackled when she begged him to leave her
He's pretty full of shit but I think the one true part of that scene was him saying "the problem here is that you don't like me and that has been breaking my heart for eleven years," and "I make you laugh, you said that was the most important thing!" Those parts make me think that he knows something is wrong with him but he doesn't know how to fix it and he thought he had one redeeming quality that made him important to at least one other person. Doesn't redeem him but it makes me sad for him. Living while feeling like you make people uncomfortable is difficult
I mean, he knows what he did wrong and he never tried to fix it. I couldn’t feel sorry for him, especially after he constantly made sexually inappropriate comments towards her sister and even tried to kiss her… like bro if you think your wife is such a catch and you don’t want her to leave, maybe don’t attempt to cheat on her with her sibling? Lol
switch amnesiac and kid a

Isn't this the guy from the "Love" Netflix series with Gillian Jacobs? The radio-host pseudodoctor. This dude was great there and here he seems like he's going all in into that same character.
Yup. He like playing asshole characters ig
Also plays a sleazy doctor on the Netflix movie Metal Lords, is one of the main characters dads
@@Eraziels and as it turns out, this voice was sounding so familiar for a reason. He plays a furiously fuckin' great role of Myc the Mushroom in the Inside Job!
the HTTF was too good, holy cow.
Bad people and bad personality is the same thing. If you know you have a bad personality don't just use it as a reason but change your personality
Fleabag's face at 1:18 🤣
All this speech and all I can think about is I am too much like my personality is too much so even if I am not an alcoholic I still relate
Why is no one talking about, “I am nOAHhahttT”. One of the shows funniest moments and so subtle
"I'm not a bad guy, I just have a bad personality" that one hit home too close
Haha yeah... I've been on both sides of this scenario and neither is good... 🫂

I love Fleabag's little toast motion when Martin says "like everyone else in this fucking country!"
Hahaha yes!
"I love you i make you laugh i am douche but i make you laugh you said that was the most important thing..." idk why but when he said this i felt pity for him.
Nah it made me happy, more people (males especially) need to know they’re not as funny as they think they are. It’s pity laughs most times
@@chickenisindeedmystyle7316 Men's mental health is so often igonred in today's society. He has a lot of problems. That doesn't mean it's a good excuse to be an asshole. But one should take a moment before condemning him. He is a depressed alcoholic craving any kind of validation. He wants to feel like he's not such a failure. He wants to feel loved. And he does every shitty thing to get that feeling. He will lie, cheat, manipulate, gaslight... anything just to get some "love". It's sad I think. I'm not happy about his torment.

I almost cried. great acting.
I hated his character but I think he might be onto something when he said that some people aren’t bad people, they just have bad personalities.
Meh not really. Your character is formed by your actions. Your morals and beliefs guide these actions. If you have bad character then you have a bad personality, which is his own doing. Keep doing shitty things and you are going to be a bad person. People like this always make roundabout explanations to not take accountability. It’s pretty simple, he’s just a terrible person.
@@Aileenwasright i definitely agree with you, obviously he’s an immature person but I do agree to an extent that some people aren’t bad or evil people, they just have a bad personality.
I can see where you are coming from too. Not to cancel out that it's still not good enough to be a bad husband just because you have a bad personality. The key is taking responsibility. However, I do see how some people can be unpleasant/ difficult whatever and not necessarily be downright evil or bad people.
@@emmagbates Exactly, thank you! It’s not an excuse for him to be shitty and honestly, the fact that he’s self aware kind of makes it worse because they means he knows he a shitty person and does nothing to stop it, but people try so hard to find labels for all bad people in their lives; narcissist, psychopaths, sociopaths and I think it’s important to remember that not all bad people are narcissists or have something wrong with them, sometimes they’re just assholes. It doesn’t make them evil, it just makes them mean and annoying.
@s really well said! I would completely agree and it's such an interesting point about labels! I feel like with society placing so much importance on ideas of toxicity and like you say psychopaths, narcissists etc I find a lot of people are blindly calling any perosn that when maybe they simply don't like them or they are just not the right person for them. And there's nothing wrong with that. As far as this character I thought he was an arsehole but he was funny to watch so you know, a little from column A, a little from column B! 😂
