The Last Great Road Surfaces In The UK
The Porsche Cayman was not designed for pot hole ridden UK road surfaces. I was falling out of love with my Porsche Cayman. Then the roads of North Wales saved the day.

Maintenance Wash 18 Months After PPF

Join me in this video as my Porsche Cayman 981 GT4 gets a maintenance wash down at Huntsmiths. Sadly this video was made before the aborted Scotland trip with Eddie. I will need to end the year with wheel liners and under trays off and a proper underbody deep clean to remove all the debris collected on poor UK roads. I have a 996 brought it to a mechanic i had no clue really what was wrong or done.. i found numeric wanted to replace .. he said no need he did something.. 5k miles later they popped again going numeric shifter and cable
I wonder if the Danish architect he mentioned is Bent Severin? I worked for Bent who moved to SF after done several projects in Asia and Dubai. In 2007, I went to the Porsche dealer to pickup a 911 but when I saw the Cayman in 2007, I switched to the Cayman because the side vent and the back curves caused such a wow impression... Just upgraded to the 2024 model. But now hearing and knowing about Pinky design intention, I will keep both models.
Nothing wrong with the PS4S.
Great video, loved it.
As somebody who researches new purchases with a ridiculous level of OCD detail. This video is absolutely perfect, love the attention to detail on every line and curve .. appreciate the upload.
what did you pay for this low miler
That video was min revs, but a gorgeous car nonetheless. The leather is just extra weight to me. The binnacle is nice. The sports shifter, chrono, LSD and PSE are must-haves though. Next, long tube headers...
Great video very informative. I drive a red GR86. The colour is very reminiscent of Rosso Corsa ❤. Obviously that's no comparison to the California. But both share a small similarity regarding form factor which is what attracted me to the GR86. I love that car so much. Very usable as a daily as you do get extended trunk space when when folding dpwn the "back seats". I was debating on either getting an F-Type 4 cylinder or the GR86. Went for the GR as I knew it'd be much less of a headache on everything maintenance - wise. So far that held true. Also, was my forst RWD car and I wanted to learn how to drive these before adding more power. I absolutely love coupes. I will go out of my way to always drive a coupe whatever it may be. If life permits it, at some point I'd like to progress to an Emira, preferably in red with black roof and the V6. I have been warming up to and appreciating Ferrari which is why your clip appeared in my thread. I'd love to one day drive something like the California T or maybe even the Portofino, in Rosso Corsa of course but that's decades and a lot of luck away. Let's see. For now I enjoy the moment in my street legal gocart ❤ fun fact, when I drive on the highway, on the left lane (would be right in the UK), cars get out of the way 😂 cars that easily have >100hp more than me. I guess they think uh something flat and blood red approaching, must be a fast car 😂😂😂
Great video but you need to work on your hand placement on the wheel. 9 and 3 is where you want them to be
Did you ever have the Allignment done on your GT4
Great car, do you still have it, I’ve just bought a 981 GT4, be great to meet up for a road trip.

Great video ! Awesome car mate! Next time take two mates with ford fiestas lol. Then you will have the super car lol. Love how you love your car 😁👍
🤣👍🏼
Yes basic interior is a preferred taste for me as well.
987.2 is a little bit more of a vintage look and I love it!!
This is such an awesome video. I received an allocation for a GT4 RS with no markup, which is amazing here in the USA. I am trading in my GTS 4.0, which I love dearly. I have a Macan for a daily, and this will be my fun weekend car and track car. But I do live in an urban area and like running around town in my GTS occasionally. Your review of the compliance of the ride is reassuring. Great video!
WOW!! You got a GT4RS without a dealer markup in the USA? JUMP ON IT if you can afford it without too many consequences financially. I know I would. Depends on your exact use case, and I’m pleased you haven’t mentioned so far you will be taking the car on track. It is an awesome car, though some hard core track people say the front-end steering and suspension cannot handle the power as well as a GT3. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I can proudly say I never come near to using 80% of the handling potential of the car. When I made this video the GT4RS impressed me on a more emotional level and I love the engineering that’s gone into that car, and the engine. The only downside you should be aware of depending on how good your hearing is, if you’re going on a 1,000 mile motorway trip the noise inside the cabin from the engine can get a bit much. This is not from personal experience but from multiple actual owners. That is the only downside to openly be aware of. Other than that, make sure you specify the front axle lift, and damn good times are in store for you ahead.
@@MAXREVS Thanks for the reply! I will be taking this to the track, for sure. I like track driving, but it is for my enjoyment, and I do not compete with anyone other than myself. I will probably get in around 6-8 track days per year, do some autoX, and then use this car to tear up the backroads. My one small concern is that I optioned PCCBm, which is supposed to be awesome. Some say the rotors wear quickly on the track, but others say they are pretty durable and a lot of people are basing their views off of old PCCB data. And I found that if/when they need to be swapped out, I can go to the Surface Transform option, which is about half the cost and should last forever. I plan on keeping this car until I can't get in and out of it anymore. Appreciate your awesome review!
I drive a 987.2 Cayman R 2012 model. I use it for both normal use and track. It’s now for sale and I’m wondering to buy a 981 Cayman GT4 😊
So much I could say here, but all depends on a lot of personal factors. If you follow this channel I had a 987.2 S and went to a 981 GT4. For normal use on poor UK roads the GT4 is much less forgiving and you feel all the surface imperfections (pot holes). If you live in the UK you may know what I mean. For track, you are closer to the ground, more power, great steering, less body roll. Will you enjoy your time on track more in the GT4? Debatable… I believe the 987 is just as much fun on track. You need to ask yourself why are you making the switch? Without getting too detailed, I wanted the last proper top spec Cayman imho. I never bought into the 718 platform. The sound characteristics are very different. I personally prefer the 981 GT4 and it has a cracking exhaust on it. Most importantly I would say it comes down to your finances. I had to borrow some money to fund the 981 GT4 purchase. If you don’t have to sweat about the finances I’d say DO IT. If you cannot spend the extra money without some thought, well, maybe think of something else. You definitely selling the 987.2? If you have made your mind up to sell the 987, you could always try something totally different like a GR Yaris?
No rev limiter on the Porsche? I have not seen a care made after 1986 that did not have a rev limiter... Ahh you are speaking over revs due to putting it in wrong gear, that would normally be measured in seconds or fraction of seconds in a cars lifetime and most often 0 ... And if it it measured in hours you are dealing with someone that is beyond stupid lol
Considering you buy the car to drive then it has to be the 981, no competition.
Sound quality is horrible
Dam is that normal to speak of factory spec heights without considering corner balance/weights?
The number plate on the gt4 is not straight
Take out all the silencers and all the crap they added to reduce emisions from the 718 and it will sould the same or even better then the 981 depending on what you do to it exactly
I talked to pro drivers at Sears Point Raceway. One of their favorite things to do is to challenge of a new Porsche driver to a race. The pro driver drives a Honda Accord and the Porsche driver drives his new car. The pro driver wins EVERY time. The pros LOVE doing that! LOL! The moral? Focus more on skills than specs.
Love the conversion between two English blokes versus how it would go with two American (blokes). Two societies, same interests!
Great video with solid information
How reliable has it been?
The car has since been sold. Issues I had which cost me money… snapped shifter cables and leaking coolant hoses. Will link the videos below.

"PromoSM" 😉
I just dont get it. Buy exhaust for the 718 and you are good to go. Even opf less is possible max a tune will be neccessary afterwards
Take away the gratuitous engine noise clips and you are actually suggesting that you have presented a comprehensive guide across all the generations of Cayman, in less than 4 minutes and expect a purchase decision to be made on that basis? You have had several years to improve and update this "information", so why have you not done so?
Not sure what make year this is? Looks beautiful 🩵
Pinky doesn’t just pen beautiful cars. He is capable of industrial design
It's clear that you're trying to be nice to Ferrari, but you're obviously biased, being a Porsche focused channel. Nice try though, but some typical haters comments ruined the honest review...
Totally understand where you are at... I've owned many Cars from M3's to M5's as well as a cayman and 997. Bought my GT4 2 years ago and I know exactly where you are... I am 100% content with the GT4 and will enjoy it... it's a good feeling not wanting another car, well except possibly a RS.
Cars have got too stiff, chasing lap times never helps on the road - perhaps a GTS 4.0 or base cayman would have been better
Came across your video, well done and I feel you. 718 base here, 2 l, 300 HP, love it and it will stay with me till the end of time! Greetings from KC.
I live near the Greater London/Surrey border not far from J7 of the M25 and the roads locally are dreadful and have been for a while now. Didn't make for comfortable motoring in my 996 GT3 I owned for many years.
Great sound track. I’ve now upgraded to Boxster 981 but still have the cayman 987, which my son drives. Let me know if you want to do review on the difference in my opinion for your channel

This guy’s very knowledgeable and great at explaining things simply. I just replaced my front inner/outer tie rods (not fun) and sway bar links only for the alignment shop to tell me they can’t get the rear wheels to spec and are maxed out. This will help me diagnose the problem

I use the enzo shampoo and M4 smoke as a conditioner for my hair as well. Doesn't get grey and I think it will last at least another 10 years.
Wow, I've never received a personal message from a content creator before! Thank you so much! I feel very honoured. I've been following your channel for a long time and am a big fan. I am very happy that there are finally videos about the GT4 again and useful tips for handling such an insanely great car. I've already learnt a lot. I often watch the road trip videos on my TV at night and enjoy the harmonious music with the inviting intros by the expert. Of course, I am happy to give tips about my teeth. Unfortunately, the teeth are not real. After years of driving an open-top convertible (Ford Streetka), I lost all my front teeth (1.2-2.2 and 3.2.-42) due to stone chips. Since I have now upgraded to a Golf GTI, I also had to take care of my external appearance. I had my hair renewed by an expert (Prof. Dr. Dr. hc mult. Hairnize) in a complex and quite expensive procedure due to similar incidents during my holiday in Side Turkey. I am quite satisfied and feel very flattered that you like it too. I am not familiar with the name Fillip.
Sehr gut ;-) You have given me a great business idea.... PPF for teeth for open top convertible drivers 😁
