Twisted Turning

A demonstration on how to put a little twist in your woodturning. This is a technique that I picked up from a demo done by Brian Horais at the AAW National Symposium this summer.
Vacuum Chuck Part 2: Adapter
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 5 lety
Second part of this video, the chuck adapter. There are other videos that follow this process, but I wanted to tie in the first video, and show how well it worked. Except for the face plate, most of the parts come from the hardware store. It may not be as pretty as the manufactured ones, but it works pretty well! Enjoy!
Vacuum Chuck Part 1: Air System

I've been meaning to put together a vacuum chuck for a while now, and finally had a project required it. I broke the video into two parts: Part 1: Air System Part 2: Vacuum Chuck Adapter Below is the parts list to build this portion of the video: Brass fittings: 2 x T's 2 x air compressor quick couplers 2 x barbed tube adapters Bell valve vacuum gauge plastic tubing Hold Fast Vacuum Adapter www...

Finally using a glue-up I got during a silent auction at my wood turners club meeting. Also getting a chance to use my vacuum chuck.
Fixing Chuck Damage
zhlédnutí 684Před 6 lety
I recently attended a Jimmy Clewes workshop put together by the Mid-Maryland Woodturners Club, in which we made some beautiful square oriental jewelry boxes. (if you ever get the chance to take one of his workshops, I HIGHLY recommend you take advantage of it!) In the process, we mounted the lid back onto the chuck in order to turn the top. Unfortunately, this caused a small amount of damage on...

Tooth Box (subtitled with music)
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 6 lety
I had a lot of comments on one of my videos that the music was too loud, my voice was too quiet or that subtitles make it difficult to follow the video and read what is being done. I am doing this video in two versions, one with subtitles and music, and one with a voiceover. Here is the first version. This tooth box is made with neodymium magnetic clasps out of a piece of English Walnut. The bo...

A simple cherry platter finished with the Modern Masters Metal Effects copper paint. This was the first larger project I got to finish on my new Powermatic lathe. I hope you enjoy!
What have you been up to lately?
zhlédnutí 251Před 6 lety
It seems time and the summer have gotten away from me a little recently, and I haven't put out many new videos. Well, here's a little bit of what I've been up to and maybe a taste of things to come! On a side note: We will be attending the Mid Atlantic Woodturning Symposium in Lancaster, PA this October and can't wait to take in the great demonstrators and vendors! Hope to see you there! www.ma...

It might be time for an upgrade... While the old HF lathe was a great starter, it's having a hard time keeping up...

Stunning work
Beautiful bowl! I LOVE winged bowls and 3 sided bowls, especially if they are glued up with contrasting colored woods. Thanks for sharing!! 👍🏾
no v4ccine 19 gen0cide 2030 ... thanks
Thank you for sharing
Thanks. Nicely done I'm going to make a few for myself.
Thanks , mine turn out great!
Did you need a vacuum Regulator.? Or is it not Necessary?
Since this is connected to a commercial vacuum pump, it’s not needed.
How many degrees on the saw to cut the corners and make it octagonal
get rid of the music!
The dust input to your vacuum pump isn't down on the floor where you put your pump, it's on the wall where you put the bypass valve or on your headstock when the bypass valve is closed. An inlined air filter would take care of both inputs.
Beautiful job turning and finishing your bowl. The glued up block really makes this piece unique.
Any reason you kept the bushings instead of switching to nylon bushings?
Хорошая работа.👍
Wow. Lots of work but what a beautiful piece.
Beautiful 👍
All I can think of is that the first song sounds like the royalty free version of "One is the Loneliest Number".
how did you fill the gaps on the segments on top ring?
use Cole jaws on expand mode on inside of bowl
i guess I'm kind of off topic but does anybody know a good site to stream new movies online?
@Zev Sawyer Lately I have been using FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
if you used a wedge sled ,why need to sand halves
That's an amazing transformation from one shape to another. Love the final product!
Very nice! What dimensions of wood did you start with?
beautiful job! i think some more editing in the middle where you were changing the chuck to turn the bowl and finish the bottom would have been nice.
The 3 corner bowel nice choice 👌 👍 thanks for sharing
Beyond cool!
Beautiful project. Really came out well and the polished finish is amazing! I'll have to try it for sure.
Great demo! I really like your twisted, segmented bowl you show at the end of the video
Sorry went back and relook at the video must have missed that part that part on what angles to cut them
I really like your video how you cut your angles and at what angle would be nicer good job keep up the good work looking forward to the next video
Thank you! You are exactly correct that there is 'nothing' out there about the air system!
Great vid. Thanks for posting. Can I ask, what does the 'spray-poly' do and what is its full name, please? Thanks!
It's just a polyurethane finish in a spray can.
Great videos. You explained everything in perfect detail. Now I know what I need to do. Thank you.
Thanks, great demo of different techniques, “ turned out” beautiful. Thanks Chuck
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Your makin me dizzy!
bravo 👏👏
Very good video, well explained. Were you surprised by the shape of the pattern inside, I wasn't expecting that ... as the song goes!
I wasn't really sure what to expect... but I was very pleased with what emerged :)
I have tried to with with maple and find that when sanding, the dark sanding dust gets embedded into the pits of the lighter colored wood. I'm not pleased with the "dirty" look. Do you have any suggestions?
Sanding sealer or conditioner can keep the colors from running. If you can get to a nice finish with the tools, give it a good soaking and you might be good to sand away once it's cured
Parabéns, muito bonito.
Thank you
At $23 a gallon for Titebond III glue is not cheap. That is about 6 times as much for a gal of gas where I live. Keep up the good work.
Only surpassed by fine perfume and printer ink. Thanks for stopping by!
sick ! what type of parting tool is that?
That's the Easy Wood Tools carbide parting tool. I'm a pretty big fan, but it's a bit of a one-trick pony
@@MapleCrossingWoodworks thanks for the quick response!
Videos where the sound of the cutting is much louder than the dialog, is not worth my time to watch. Tired of turning the volume up and down.
I enjoyed your video. The explanation of the layout and turning are clear and through. Pleas tell me about the mandrill. What is the manufacturer and where is it available? Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for watching! The mandrel I use the most is the Niles bottle stopper mandrel. It has the same 3/8” 16 TPI threading as most hardware for turning. Ruth sells directly from her site at nilesbottlestoppers.com/. Tell her I said Hi!
That’s a very unusual bowl. Well done 👏👏👏
Thank you very much!
Another excellent project thank you ✊✊✊✊✊
It truly tern out fantastic 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Excellent and very clever project and a lot of work thank you ✊✊✊✊✊ . If you don’t mind what angle did you cut them . Thank you
I believe these were 60 degree cuts (360 / 3 and then /2 for each side)
Thank you very much I will try this I love the look of your hard work
Great fun project. Cheers, Huw
Very clever!
I didn't realize some of the noise during the hollowing, I apologize for the volume
That's brilliant! Happy Star Wars Day!
Thank you! and may the 4th be with you, Always!
Excellent, I love it. Thanks James
