    THANK YOU!! I have been trying for 4 years to start morning glories & then move them outside- im lucky if i get 1 seed to grow then when it does... ill get 1 flower then it withers away & dies. I kept asking around- what am i doing wrong??? People literally tell me they have them growing like wild & cant get them to stop- ! And i cant even get 2 blooms! 😢 They only seem happy when i let them dry out & very scarse on watering... im going to try nicking today- any other advice? I should prob add im in Boston area.

      You are most welcome! First thing is they really don't like to be transplanted. So if you are going to start them indoors put them into peat pots or a pot that can go right into the ground. They will also need to be hardened off, or get used to the sun outside. Be sure you plant them in a sunny spot. But if I were you, I would nick and soak the seeds and them plant them right outside in a sunny spot. Or try it both ways and see what works best. And don't feel bad that yours are not coming out like others, every garden is vastly different from others, the soil, the sunlight, amount of water ect. I start most of my plants from seed, but overall I am only about 50% successful. The main thing is that you keep trying different things until you hit upon what works for you!!!

    Ok why in the heck are mine stil half that size after a week? I know they like sunlight so they dont lean to find it so why could mine be taking so long?? It took so long to pop the outer seed off as well, about 4-5 days! Some are still trying to fold out of the dirt planted Same day! These stay warm I keep the bottoms of the pots with water each am too which they take right up! I keep some stones in the dirt too so moisture is there. Not understanding why mine are taking so long. I have peat and everything in there, it's awesome dirt. I let them germinate in a shallow glass too until the roots were pretty nice at first and everything. I'm confused as to why yours is so much bigger! 😞🌱❤

      Hi Kel, Morning glories bloom near the top of new growth, if you stagger planting you will have better coverage of flowers down the whole length of your plants. Other then that there is no reason why you would have to do this.

    i just nicked some hibiscus seeds. Since I really couldn't find a good diagram of what to nick I lightly nicked the radical pointy tip part on one seed and the curved back shell part on the other to test. The seed that had its back nicked sunk to bottom of glass. The one with radical nicked didn't sink. Wouldn't it be safe to say if not nicked correctly they will float?

      @lynnmantell8694 Před 8 lety

      +1sageraza Hello and thank you! Well these plants are annuals so they only last for one season. I haven't started any yet this year as we had a new home built, but I will be planting some outside pretty soon. Morning glories do not like to get dry, when I have mine outside I will water once a day or every other day depending on the amount of rain we get. It is easy to tell with these plants when they want water as the leaves will become droppy. But not long after they get water the leaves will perk right back up again.

    • @lynnmantell8694
      @lynnmantell8694 Před 9 lety

      Thank you! Any seed starting mix is good. I usually pick up a bag at Lowes. Don't start them in potting soil indoors or you will usually wind up with a fungus that can kill the young seedling. If however you start them outdoors, any good loose soil will be fine.

I hope I have luck come spring...Ive followed your videos from germination to putting the seeds in their homes for the next few months... they've just poked their little heads out this morning...so ... wish me luck ! Just one question... I will be trying to fill up a wooden fence but have read that the heavenly blue type will be top heavy and have exposed vines on the bottom while crimson rambler...or..the pinkish one... is fuller with vines and will cover more area... have you found this to be true ?? Its a really ugly , tall, long wooden fence.. i will be adding a trellis against the whole wall of it to help them.. but am aiming for a morning glory sanctuary.....lol.. if this desert. permits.... well,... thank you for sharing your pictures with me.. ! gravid05 (opps, sorry for the strange screen name and icon, they are from my grandson who signed on here the other day-lol) Thank you!! Its really wonderful to see some interest generated from here. I did the videos for a morning glory grow out I hosted on a favorite plant and seed trading site~plantswap.net . It's a free site for gardeners who love to share their seeds, plants and information, I think you would enjoy the folks there, you should check it out. As to your question, I have grown both of these types, but they have grown in with other types, so I can't really tell you one way or another which one would be best for you. I've found for the best coverage is to grow more then one type of morning glory and to stagger planting times to like a week apart. That said, I have plenty of seeds from this years harvest from the three mixes I have~I harvest and share my seeds every year, you are welcome to some or all the three types for the cost of postage to send them to you~just contact me at fearadyn@yahoo.com if you would like them. Also if you have any growing questions, don't hesitate to ask~I love helping other gardeners!
