UPDATE! Day 106: A Jamestown Mall update
Sure didn't take long from being built to closing down. I remember when it was being built thinking "what a waste of money", because most every big shopping mall was being abandon.
If I had a billion or two, I might buy it & rebuild it, because I grew up not too far from here, and remember it when it was a popular place to go. Brings back memories.
So many coins went to the fountains
So bitterweet😢 grew up going here. Saw goonies in the original theater. Hot Sams pretzles. All my kids saw santa and easter bunnies. 😕
Just imagine that once stood here was a thriving retail location providing jobs, memories and social interaction for people. This Retail Apocalypse will continue thanks FireGhoust for documenting it, Keep em Rolling!
Do you think it will most likely be developed into an Amazon warehouse?
Thanks for the update, cool to see the crews in action!
Of course! It's always amazing to see the crew working!
In the summer of 1975 I turned 16 and tested for my drivers license there. The bottom floor was leased to the State for drivers license testing. I recall it well, my hair was half-way down my back and when the Missouri State Trooper walked outside asking for me I don't think he was a fan of guys with long hair, considering all Trooper's sported crew-cuts, lol. I had just talked my dad into letting me install a new Pioneer Super Tuner cassette deck with a separate amp. Plus, a pair of Jensen Triax speakers in his car. That thing CRANKED! I had a few cassettes in the glove box and one of them was Alice Cooper's Killer. After the Trooper got in the car I was very tempted to push that Killer tape in and play "You Drive Me Nervous" because that's exactly what I was! No problem I passed and was smiling the whole way home. Dad let me drive, but no music because the Cardinals were playing a game and dad never missed watching or listening to a Card's game.
I never knew they had a driver exam site there. But I'm glad you have fond memories of the tower!
I have watched all of north county decline throughout my life (58 years) So sad
It is sad to see how much it's declined over time. I wish we could see some rejuvenation happen in the area.
@@fireghostExplores Won't happen, in 25-30 years all of N County (including Florissant and Hazelwood.) will be considered a low income minority area. Most of it (if not all.) has to do with the age of the area. My subdivision was built in the mid 1950s, and some of the houses around my subdivision were built one at a time and you can still see the coal chutes on some of them. After WW2 the big push for the new idea called subdivisions hit N County starting in the late 1940s. I found out what can happen when cities allow rentals and sec. 8/Hud Housing in. Next store to me is such a house and one night a coupe of years ago someone decided to stand in the sidewalk and shoot the house. It wasn't random it was targeted at someone that lived there and may still live there now. At least 5 or 6 holes in the aluminum garage door and where it bounced off the brick.
I went there for kindergarten and across the street for 1st and 2nd grade before moving out of the city. After so many years I stopped by. Feeing Nostalgic for some odd reason, I was kind of shocked that both schools had been closed for what seems a very long time. I went there as a small kid in the mid 70''s.
That's a bummer they should fix it up to help the homeless
Interesting similarities. This is one of the buildings of the abandoned Nevele Grand in the Catskills: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevele_Grand_Hotel
Doomed from the day it was built
I wish CZcams would delete all this AI generated crap.
Thanks for the comment, my newer stuff doesn't use AI
@@fireghostExploresid rather hear you stutter, repeat yourself and make mistakes… btw.. you can get people who are amateur actors and even professionals to do these for free just to put them on their resumes…
@@artmosley3337 Yeah I've listened to everyone commenting, I'm not doing the AI voices anymore in my newer videos.
Do you have any plans to memorialize Chesterfield Mall's demolition (starts 10/15/24)? Not sure if you live in North County; definitely quite a drive to Chesterfield.
Thanks for letting me know, I do plan to cover Chesterfield as well, I didn't know they had a set date yet.
@@fireghostExplores The mall itself closes for business on August 1; not sure what happens between then and October 15. The only things that will remain is the Dillards/Stix Baer & Fuller that closed in 2016 following a water main break and the Macy's/Famous-Barr building, which will be repurposed.
Chicago had Cabin Green , Robert Taylor, and other housing projects that failed completely. Actually, life in those buildings was good for, at most, A decade or two. Then a combination of gangs and mismanagement created a hellish condition. When Chicago City government officially gave up, every city leader, every social service agency, and both city newspaper editorial staffs placed the blame on "the buildings". Building design, building location, building density, building equipment. Nary a word about the real cause of the failure, which was the quality of the occupants. Not politically correct to blame people, so "the buildings" were blamed.
Totally different. This building was designed for and originally occupied by middle/upper middle condo owners.
ah... another example of 'boys and sh*t that goes !BANG!... <PFFT>
We moved to north county in 1961. I remember how attractive and unusual the tower was. A movie theater and restaurant. We often went to the public library and a drive-in theater near by, too. Your video is such a shock. I haven’t been by the tower in several decades. … You mispronounce words and occasionally say strange phrases. Just who/what is speaking here?
Keep em Rolling!
Will do!
I took my date there for 9th grade prom 1976 i an 63 now
I just drove past this area this morning. It was slated for much mega development that never happened due to the crime demographics. There was much crime there before Ferguson. Take the bus out from the North side of St. Louis, steal things, and then steal a car to bring them home. Until the ghetto culture of the north side is broken, until it becomes more inclusive of all cultures, the North side will always fail.
I lived in the area 10149 count dr I left the area to live in the country WoW what a difference. My cousins and I would play on the elevators we were about 5 years old to us it was like a mansion we loved the area than I won't even go up by the neighborhood now unless I have security Y
They need to build more buildings like this with the exterior walkway. In case there is a fire.
I'm getting dizzy watching video! Slow down your movements!
I worked there!! It ws a cool place.lts gonna disappear....
So the Democrats turned the neighborhood into public housing and welfare and eveyone left???
Two of that style built in Columbus...one still Standing.
Democrats
Why would an LLC in California even want to own this abandoned building? It makes no money
I wonder about that all the time.
They don't. If you watch the video it explains that it is the plaza building that has a grocery store occupant and other businesses that the CA LLC owns, not the tower.
You’re a talented individual Keep em Rolling!
Oh just FYI we in N.E. Ohio saw another mall close permanently the Midway Mall in Elyria Ohio and I was also at the Shenango Valley Mall closing in Western Pennsylvania I would say another 25 percent of the dead malls will be closed in 5 years just MHO
What do think they are going to do with the Chesterfield Mall which was the Sister Mall to the Jamestown Mall
This is the direct result of having no pride in your community, no respect of others. Its the same crap that happened in the city and now north county is going down the same way. Its sad and shameful bc this was a really nice place . . . Once upon a time.
Once black people moved in…
I drive by this building every day to work. I often think if they will ever demolish it, but it would be hard with the buildings right next to it.
Looks just like every other boys home then asylum
I wonder if they have been hauling dirt in
Restoration is a hysterical pipe dream. Down it goes!

Is that true? Is that what it was?
Great work, glad the rain could stay way long enough!
Thanks, i'm glad i was able to get down there too, it's always fun getting a nice recording.
All of north county is a nightmare.
This property is like this just like every single inner city in the United States is like this and everybody knows why😢😢😢
is that the one where the top of it used to turn with a panoramic view
No the one you are thinking of is downtown st.louis near the arch. It was once called the clarion hotel. It to is abandoned tho and no one is willing to step up and make the building great again. It's really quiet a shame that the city and county let these iconic structures go to the way side. Very sad.
I drive pass this tower just about everyday. It’s a shame that STL county won’t put any energy here. Pisses me off I have to drive to west county to do things with my family. #RebuildNoCo
It's really sad they won't do anything with it, it'd be nice to see some development happen here.
“Those people” un-develop everything around them.
Thanks for this! Amazing to see just howuch work really has to go into this to tear everything down. Think a lot of people underestimate the work needed.
I'll be honest, when this project started, i didn't think there would be much needed digging into the ground around where the walls were.
I remember Rizzos Restaurant for their Spinning Salad!
That was a very cool place...
Thanks for another great update, FireGhost Explores! I love the new commentary you provide-it's informative and adds so much depth to the videos. Keep up the amazing work!
