I really enjoy your videos and speculation so I hope this difference in opinion doesn't come off the wrong way. Act 2, the way I thought of it in my head was as follows. There's a war about to start, you need all hands on deck. This is the assembling of "the avengers" or whole marvel spectrum, so to speak. But that's just my opinion. Thanks for an awesome video!

To be fair, Lloyd's route isn't the only one that is a rehash of older games. Almost the entire plot of the game is. For example, in Rean's route alone: We get tested for no reason; Olivier is missing with no evidence; Terrorists underneath Heimdallr; Border conflict in Nord; Climb Mishelam Tower for the true villain reveal; Surprise! It was Ishmelga all along; Rean confronting the same character flaws for the 5th time. I could keep going. Even the Rufus route has us find a homonculus in a briefcase, and all routes combine for a 3-pronged assault on Crossbell before the final dungeon rises in the distance (again just like Azure). Possibly the weakest story in the franchise, but fortunately the main story is only like 20% of the game (and everything else around it is fire), even if 80% of this video is the main story haha. Also, nice use of One Who Bears Fangs At God!

I don't like Rean because I dislike harem protagonists. I don't like the concept and I didn't like watching everyone throw their panties and the kitchen sink at him for bonding events instead of just having bonds that are "just friends". For 4 games they did this shit and even his students did this which felt fucking creepy. Then the other thing that burns my ass about him is that he gains the title of Divine Blade, but yet acts like the most passive jobber in the world and after 5 games still doesn't get he needs to be confident in himself or else he will always be shit at combat. Even in reverie, he jobs against Shizuna because yet again, he doesn't believe in himself. He's always bitching he has to train more, not that he can take a fight and he's strong enough. And his entire personal monolog is "I have to be strong enough to stand on my own so no one will help me" but yet never strives to be stronger or succeeds at being stronger. It's always bitching he needs to git gud, but never actually gits gud worthy of a divine blade. Then finally over 4 games, he says "I'm strong enough on my own to protect the ones I love" fails and every game there's without fail some 10 minute monologe about how Rean isn't strong enough to do it on his own and he needs to trust his friends more to have his back. Which always ends with "I guess you guys are right, I'll trust you more" to only have this same conversation and character arc next game yet again. Then in CS3-4 it goes from his classmates/equals having his back, to his class babysitting him when he goes full retard because even in a teacher position, he has to have his fucking students wipe his ass and do the emotional labor he cannot do. Oh also every time he fights anyone worth shit they keep saying the same thing "Bro stop holding back, address that shit inside of you that is cucking you from being the warrior you can be." and then he never does.

After the crossbell saga, this arc of Cold was terrible for me. I almost gave up on Trails, I could only play the first Cold, the rest I saw better on CZcams, and I still felt like I was robbed. I can't believe Cold and Crossbell are from the same playthrough. I hope Reviere improves the thing

Took a little over a year to finish the Sky trilogy. Now my adventure takes me to Crossbell.

Still utterly insane that a fighting game _spinoff_ is still seemingly canon

Yeah, I started with Cold Steel, but I decided very early in that I would go back and play the older games after that game, but ended up having to play CS2 first, because I didn't want to leave on that cliffhanger. So I went back to the Sky games after CS2 and while I was playing them, the Crossbell games released in the West. So I played those too, before going back into Cold Steel and I feel that was the best decision I could've made, because it seriously enhanced the experience of playing CS3+4 for me. I'm in the final act of Reverie now, but I still have so much sidestuff to do, that I think I will still take 2-3 weeks, before I can finish that game.

Thanks for the summary. The writing of the Trails series was not my taste, it was a chore for me to play the game. A lot of fillers and hollow conversation, yet I still need to complete them to play the next Daybreak series. I think the writer is trying to be cool with all the politics and life meaning, but in the end it was a drag and become convoluted. The Sky writing was better, easy to grasp, straight forward but still has character and plot depth. Cold Steel is like an edgy highschooler trying to come up with a cool story.

I just started playing Kuro and i was so colossally LOST that I had to go back and watch a Hajimari summary xD Kiseki is truly the only games series I know that has homework. I'm also thoroughly done with Rean as a character. I hope we never see him again. 5 games definitely was enough and i already like Van more than him after only 10 hours. (Maybe because I'm 34 and the teenage self insert wish fulfillment really got on my nerves by Cold Steel 3...) Anyway, I'm very interested in seeing what Falcom will do with all of the still dangling plot threads in the Calvard arc. Will the whole Elysium thing have any relevance? Or was that just a plot device to get all the characters together? Like. I am SO confused. XD Edit: I'm not lost because i didn't play the other games. I did play all of them. Started with CS 1 and 2, then went back to Sky 1 and played chronologically from there. But man. The amount of info in these games is insane to a degree that i literally cannot keep all of the plots and characters straight across arcs. Maybe I'm an idiot. But there need to be more summary videos like this one x.x

Thanks for the vid. The lazy storytelling and terrible character writing of the latter cold steel games almost made me quit the series as a whole. Thankfully this way I can just skip reverie and hope things get better in daybreak.

My brother, I just watched ALL your Cold Steel videos including Reverie. I can tell that we have a lot of similarities in our gaming tastes. You mentioned Xenogears a few times which is my all time favorite game. I’m old. I’m 40 years old so I’ve been playing since 1988 and Xenogears is my favorite game, and Trails is my favorite series. I’m very happy to hear that you’re about to start your career after college. I’m going to miss your long videos but at least I know it’s because you’re doing something as important as starting a career. I have a 13 year old son who has special needs and an 11 year old son in addition to work so I understand you that it’s difficult to have the same time we had before adult life. I hope you give your thoughts on Daybreak and the rest of the series even if they’re not over an hour long lol. Congratulations on your success in college and your new career, man. Love your videos. Started my trails journey (with sky) a little bit less than a year ago and finally finished up cold steel 2 last week, and I really enjoyed it. This was the best video I’ve seen on this game, and some of the best jrpg content on CZcams, def subbed! also I feel you about not having anyone to talk to about this (ik this is an old video but) , I def relate, I’m the only jrpg player in my irl life 😹 thanks for making this video and I’ll def check out your other analysis vids when I’m caught up with the series

been on a very similar journey from playing smash bros, only playing that, to learning real fighting games from marvel v capcom, melty blood, guilty gear. fun journey though

can't say I relate to playing fighting games on ios lmao, but I first found Guilty gear on the DS, then I played GG on dreamcast because a friend burned me a copy. the rest before this era, Melee and learning about Metroid through smash and starting my lifelong obsession with that series, Soul Calibur 2 (didn't really care for link, though my sister was obsessed with Zelda (through melee originally) I played Talim and to this day shes my favorite, Street Fighter I played since champion edition on the Sega Genesis, and well tbh, Fighting games have always been a huge part of my life. Though it was one i forgot about for a while, I'm on this video because I've recently got back into fighting games with Street fighter 6. Also, man.... Whenever I think about smash, I think about the FGC, or these adjacent fanbases and Etika comes up, it brings a tear to my eye. I miss Etika so damn much. Rest in power, king. ALSO ALSO, I've been a lifelong Smash fan and player and i used to play in tournaments too (1-2 if I was lucky, 2-2 if I was really lucky) and I just had to drop Smash Ultimate competitively because at a certain point I just realized, 50+ matchups were impossible for me to ever learn and I just wasn't enjoying it at least at my local scene. GODDAMN I KEEP EDITING THIS FUCKIN COMMENT, Hope u read this but yea, I'm not the best at pressing buttons but thankfully I'm an artist, and it was ACEN (an anime convention) that reignited my love for fighting games. Definitely plan to go to majors and maybe even sell art at the artist alleys! Also Watch Sajam because hes funny as fuck too

cs4 act 2 is exactly the same as cs2 conceptually. but executed much better. not a great execution but much much better than whatever cs2 did for one it didn't make me drop the game. as for the juna speech , i didn't find a problem with juna saying it. what i had problem was how the speech itself since it seemed "harsh" especially from juna herself . but its a small nitpick from an otherwise good act.

4:40 it actually only plays for 3 characters. Alisa in CS1, Crow in CS2 and Osborne in CS4. Theres another song used for every other character. 11:23 also, that song isn't used in that fight. The themes Heteromorphy or E.O.V. are used there.

Yeah the act 2 part of this game is what made me dropped the game and just went to straight summary of the game. Im used to padding but doing both the side quests and the main story just fuckin snapped me and just burned me out. I will come back to this one day, but for now ive been enjoying the fuck out of CS3, so much better paced.

I had so much fun with post-game content here and cannot wait for the Calvard Arc. I'm so tired of Rean and playing the finale to this game made me realise how much a lot of it had dragged. Thank you for pointing it out because I could not figure out why I was so dissatisfied with that section. Still, loved the Rufus stuff, easily one of my favourite Trails characters!

I'll be honest about remake. Nasu messed up Tsukihime so hard. Most of the new characters do not fit the game and its atmosphere. They are just out of the place. Especially Noel and that doctor. They just don't feel like Tsukihime character. Doctor is the worst one but... Come of the think maybe loli Noel is the worst lol 😂 Nasu must have been on drugs while writing that character and thinking her design. Mario was just... meh, not needed but if we have him it won't hurt game. I really like Vlov though. He fits Tsukihime well and I have no complain whatsoever about him. But why don't we have Nero? Seeing Nero and Vlov together in the novel would have been amazing. Also, why all the girls are way too skinny? I hate that ufotable design, making all the girls extra skinny and only make their boobs bigger. I prefer 2003 anime designs (which reflects og tsukihime vn character designs perfectly) over new ufotable ones any time. Soundtrack and Ciel route ending remake was really good though. Og Tsukihime Ciel route and endings were really bad, so I must give credit Nasu about remake and make better Ciel's route. (even though Ciel route have that extremely annoying Noel the route itself still better than old Tsukihime) Also we don't know when will near side routes become playable and how Nasu will mess up it, so playing the original Tsukihime novel is still a good choice.

This is about to be long. I love this genre to death. The number of memories I've made during my time with it is just pure magic. My FG jounrney started when I was only three years old. The intial spark was thanks to my cousin introducing me to the genre with Mortal Kombat 4 on the N64 and I've been a colossal fan ever since. Now, outside of all of the times I have spent playing FGs with my friends, there about four memories with FGs that really stick with me. First one was when I was around 12 in an arcade during a family vacation. I saw a Tekken 5 cabinate and immediately rushed over to it. I quartered up and started an arcade run with Jin. I make it to either stage 3 or 4 when someone who looks to be about in their early 20s walks up. He proceeds to quarter up and we start a match. I'm on Jin and he picks Law. For some reason the game was set to 4 rounds to win. I take the first two rounds...and the guy walks way. I was confused and a little proud of myself at that. My dad took over for the guy after that. I beat my dad and go back to ny arcade run. About 45 minutes go by and the same guy came back. We play a second game this time I was on Devil Jin and he picked Feng. I beat him again but he played the whole game this time. Good times. Second memory happened a few years later in Disney World at Disney Quest. There's a floor there that was basically just fighting games, beat em ups and light gun games. I saw a MVC2 cabinet and hopped on. A little after I did that, another guy comes up and we end up running a first to 10. I was using Megaman/Jin/Hayato and he was using Gambit/Blackheart/Guile. The set was close and ended 10-8 in my favour. We ended up drawing a small crowd. It was awesome. Memory three is more recent. I recently got one of my coworkers and some of his friends into Guilty Gear Strive. A lot of them were pretty new to the genre so I was in position where I was teaching the game to them. Seeing them level up was awesome and now I have a couple of rivals out of it. Now for the last and greatest memory which also very recent. After years of trying to finally make it out there, last year I finally got to attend my first Evo. Greatest weekend ever. I didn't stop smiling the whole weekend. Entered into Guilty Gear Strive and completed my goal of not going 0-2. All in all, I love fighting games so damn much and the current FG golden age we are in is just fantastic.
