The Rolling STONES: Everyone Is WRONG About The BEST Rock ALBUM?
The Rolling Stones were on a roll! Between 1968 and 1972, they put out four albums that many fans say are their greatest, and some even say they're among the best rock albums ever made. Their last album in this amazing streak was a double album called "Exile on Main St." It was a wild ride to close out this epic period, just like you'd expect from the Stones.
Most folks know the story behind the album's name: the band had to leave England for a while because of high taxes, so they rented a place in France to make their music. But even though they were in Europe, the music on "Exile on Main St." is a mix of blues, soul, country, and rock - a sound that's all over the map in the best way possible.
This is a special double album - all 18 songs are fantastic, no duds here! Let's dive into each track and see what makes them so great.

Y'all must remember or be educated that in the U.K. American Rock and Roll was banned but Chicago Blues (Black Music incl. Chuck Berry) was what the Beatles, Jones were listening to and learning how to play in the local clubs and German clubs, England was the Mersey Beat, Brian Epstein et al dominating the air waves in 61, 62, of Which Gerry and Pacemakers were killing it with catchy lovesick tunes. (Loved it) But Cliff Richard sappy pop star shit was mainstream, so by 64 you gotta a blues band competing with the Liverpool wave. Dave Clark Five, Freddie and the dreamers and Hermans Hermits. But Satisfaction, Get offa my Cloud were huge. So Yes Jones Gave us the Stones, we can Blame Brians Mom for allowing Dad to be such a cnt to Brian. The war created a lot of cnts at home, Brian's death probably keep Keith alive, and John Lennon too because no doubt they would have conceded brains and talent to Brian and yet chemistry done him in.

For the so called greatest album, it doesn't get played that often out there. I'd say Who's Next gets way more air time, and is used in commercials and in the public domain way more often and so that would be a better way to measure an albums greatness. I do love both albums however.

I appreciate Bill's continuous defense of his late, undeniably talented friend, but let us not be bamboozled into believing Brian was just an innocent victim of the "malevolent" Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. By most trustworthy accounts, the guy was a walking disaster who lacked the maturity, self-discipline, and sober mind to survive an unforgiving and often vicious business. Here follows just a few of Brian's documented faults: He sired a half dozen or more illegitimate children (*frequently with underage mothers); willingly imbibed in all possible narcotics and booze the world could then offer, physically and (more often) mentally abused his innumerable girlfriends; and, with his increasingly erratic behavior and poor work ethic, proved a constant sore in the side of Jagger, Richards, Oldham, and others who were intent on the band enduring as a major commercial success. All the biographical facts above do not suggest a functioning, kindly, and gentle-natured young man who was willfully taken advantage of and then cruelly cast aside by those he thought were his friends, do they? The raw truth of the matter is that, by the end, Brain, for all his talents and contributions to the Rolling Stones, could no longer function in ANY capacity as a member of the band he founded and therefore had to be let go. Even in the nadir of his overpublicized heroin addiction during the '70s and '80s, Keith Richards could still contribute musically in the studio, and rarely proved a major obstacle to the band's viability. Not so with Brain! Maybe now, in this age of behavioral therapy and drug rehab, his problems would've been handled more gently and with greater compassion by his bandmates and a way could've been found for him to continue with the band without jeopardizing their careers. But this is all baseless speculation! In simple point of fact, no person contributed more to Brian's untimely end than Brian himself.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were interested in the Blues before they joined the Rolling Stones according to Keith Richards autobiography and in that same book he said that the band was named when one of them (can't remember who) was asked for the name of the band by a (record company?) over the phone and they didn't have one but his eye was caught by the word Rolling Stone or Rolling Stones in some text or magazine that was lying about. P.S. Seems like it was Jones according to this video.
