He isn't saying realism is bad or that you need ti disregard realism completely. He is saying realism must serve a purpose. Game should react in a way that is expected by the player. Which often can be realistic.

Basically, realism for itself isn’t fun, but by enhancing a game with realistic responses, like a wall having holes and pushing a level moving a machine, it’s a way for the player to be immersed in the game, that their choices and actions have an effect in the world and this is but one source of fun. Basically using realism to enhance the experience and not just for the sake of it.

Realism is fun when is the foundation that good mechanics are built upon. Take gtaV its a believable realistic setting which emulate life as you and I go through it. But mechanically, it allows you to do things you would not dare to do in real life.

Me, when I start talking with Assetto Corsa fans:

Realism can be fun too, depending on what reality is portrayed. Grocery shopping is not fun, but tank warfare simulation can be fun, airplane piloting simulation can be fun etc. Because we get to experience a reality that is outside our reach IRL. But I agree that it is probably more niche

fix your steam first before yapping about how games should be fun bruh. steam is still garbage. playing games should be fun. you can never have fun when your games platform provide so much inconvenient like steam provide.

Realism is the biggest reason why many ppl buy games like HOI4, FM24, etc. the thing is it must be implemented in the right way, and fun is part of it.

not too get overly preachy, here... but the coolest people you will ever meet are the ones who apply this to every person, every conversation, every event. whether you are dealing with a , boomer, youngun or a fool... you will "narcissistically wound" them by not replying, and moreso if not "in kind". the best way to become a better person is to make every moment into an enjoyable event for your friends, neighbors and customers. just saying. be the version of you that you'd like to see in others. right? :)

Realism in video games is one of the biggest bullshits and nonsense, a lot of people cry when the game is not "realistic", but hates when you don't have fast travel, in a realistic game you wouldn't be able to carry an arsenal of weapon, including rifles, missile launchers, grenades, pistols, shotguns, knife, or when you car crash at high speed and survive without any injury. We can easily number a lot of non realistic stuffs that would be annoying if it was present in the games.

The realism of aiming stance and wobbling in RE4 remake make shooting unreliable sometimes, hence why they introduce parry in the first place. Also the realistic lighting actually makes a lot of area near pitch black

fun is fun. why you need to define rules bruh. not universal rules or measurements. even if you would be running a shop that does not really strike. its a monopoly of that type tho.

Guys, the point is not whether Gabe, Steam, or Valve are in it for the money. Of course they are, its not charity project, but whether their services is worth the money. Personally? Yeah, they are.

Fun is not realism, but the more realistic the game, the more powerful an effect the reinforcement will have.

This is exactly my problem with ESCAPE FROM TARKOV…but I guess that’s a game intentionally made to be excruciating.

You know what else is fun? Having your main title (thats counter-strike 2 for those that don't know) be absolutely infested with hackers, ruining the majority of games, and doing nothing about it. I guess as more people get driven off from the game, it'll lose relevancy. People will stop buying skins, people will stop going to or caring about tournaments.

Sad how todays game are still more rigid in their approach then this stuff. Half was revolutionary so it is sad to see how so many games today don't learn from it.

realistic graphics also aren't inherently better. Peach-fuz, all that lame stuff, I like stylistic, but good looking games as well. Good sound design is a good way to add "interaction" and "impact" to your other-wise unrealistic actions and can be satisfying. Games in alpha-mode with no sound drive me insane but it's understandable in the early stages lol
