I have been making a hat collection for my friend, and while im only charging for material cost and shipping, i know they are going to tip me good for the time. But we all know that no one is going to pay me $60 for a hat that took me 5 hours on. I also know im still a little slow when it comes ro crocheting and im working on speed, but i know im never gonna quit my day job

I agree. Some people just don't appreciate the amount of time, money and hard work you spend on doing this .😢😢 I mostly do amigurumi but I don't sell them because I am afraid that people would argue with me about the price without considering how much time and money it takes me to do a lot of crochet projects 😔😔

I love, love crocheting. I learned since I was 11 yrs old. Now I am 50. I have never sold any of my stuff I made. I only made them for my children and me. Now I only work seasonal and part time. I am starting to make a lot of stuff hopefully I will be able to sell. Even thought I don’t sell them I will keep doing it until my hands let me, since due to my previous job that I worked there for 20 years, I got injured twice. I ended up having a surgery for carpel tunnel on my right hand and 2 years later I had a tear tendon in my right arm due to the job I was doing repetitive job. I still crochet. Every time I start a project, I just can’t wait for the finish piece. I feel that if you have something good, people will buy it.🙏🏻

At my last market (June 15) It was 100F IN THE SHADE. That is WAYYYYY too hot for me. All the days leading up to it were around 85-90F. Sigh.

Ok, so all my projects are worth at least $500 a piece

The only problem is, I’m a slow crocheter. It took me about 4 hours to make a crochet spider plushie, and multiply that by 12 is 48 plus the amount of the material which is another 12 so it would be 60$, and I doubt anyone would want to buy a small plush for 60$

I once did a small sale market with my classmates as a class project where we sold boxes that had chocolate and crochet plushies. When they were splitting the base money before splitting the profit equally between us, they gave €100 for boxes and €80 for the chocolate they bought, and I only got €8 for the yarn I bought to make the plushies. Till this day I have no idea if that was the right way of splitting it or not? But I just know it was not worth the hours I spent crocheting them.

A lot of people think crocheting is knitting, and since that can be done cheaply on a machine, they don't want to pay. They don't realize that mass-produced crocheted items are essentially still hand-made but sold at a terribly low price that doesn't reflect the effort. Still, you can make a nice amount seeking at a merch table. It's up to you.
