    Controversial statement in the first 30 seconds - Kemble certainly near to Thames Head, but Seven Springs on the edge of Cheltenham is a more distant (and year-round) source, and if acknowledged would make it the longest river in Great Britain, not just England.

    It was interesting to see our county town, and my home town, through someone else's eyes. There is a lot history attached to Northampton and we are lucky to have access to the walks that you took. The Express lift tower is no longer in use as the company closed some time ago and it now stands in the middle of a housing development. It is a listed building, so couldn't be demolished when the developers moved in. Local pronunciations aren't always known to visitors so you're let off saying Neen instead of Nen, although that is the logical way to say it, but it did grate a bit. I hope that members of the current and previous council have also watched this video and taken note of your comments regarding the town centre.

    I'm the new (as of June 2024) voluntary warden for the Baldock to Heydon section of the Icknield Way Path. The discrepancies in the way markers at Notley Green, and at the junction of Notley Lane and Chain Walk have already been noted, as has the north-facing way marker at Duck's Green. You're right, the official IW route doesn't go past Orwell's cottage at Wallington, you missed the right turn a couple of hundred metres before it. There is in fact a village sign at Therfield, but it isn't raised on a post like the Sandon one, it's located under a tree opposite the green. Hawkins Wood was closed when I walked the entire route two years ago. Glad you enjoyed your walk on my 'manor'. I can recommend the Icknield Way Association's guidebook to the Icknield way which can be obtained via the IWA's website, icknieldwaypath.co.uk The four Dakotas you caught at the end were either on their way to Old Warden airfield or flying from there, depending on what time of day you saw them.

    Great video mate. Just to clarify, the Nene, rhymes with men in Northamptonshire, is pronounced 'Neen' from Cambridgeshire onwards to The Wash. I'm sure locals will agree that your wonderful naivety took you through a few areas where it's best to not walk alone, or indeed at all. And yes, our rabbits are friendly/borderline cocky as they're accustomed to people. Bit like the squirrels at Abington Park, who act like they own the place.

    That little shuttle's great, isn't it? !! Also the steepest gradient on the UK network I believe. I've never been on it, but it's on my bucket list. Are you familiar with the GB Rail Rover website? There's a one day rover ticket which covers that West Midlands area - hop-on, hop-off as much as you like - and it might have saved you money on your journey back to Birmingham. Its big brother, the Heart of England, extends from Hereford to Northampton in its bottom two corners, to Chester top left and Matlock top right. And that's only a short bus ride away from the Crich tramway museum. (Also on my bucket list!)

    • @GeorgeArrigoni
      @GeorgeArrigoni Před měsícem

      I'm aware of rover tickets, I have a look at them sometimes to see if they're worth getting. For that journey, it wouldn't have been because for some reason a ticket to the edge of the area covered by the rover, Leamington Spa, is the same price as one all the way through to Kidderminster

    I’ve worked at this station…took a selfie by the proper roundel on the northbound platform. You’re correct about the door leading to the spiral staircase, which is mostly intact, but it’s cut off at surface level to facilitate ventilation fans in the basement of the former station entrance, which was demolished and is now a Travelodge. You can also see the old lift shafts in some of the restricted areas. The passageway leading to the northbound platform has a door halfway down on the right, and you can see one of the two sets of stairs that lead up to the spiral staircase through the grilles

It always passes through Thanet Parkway without stopping so I assumed that the station was only open at certain times. After a while, having passed through at virtually every time of day that the trains run and still not been on one that stopped I asked one of the conductors why the trains never stopped there. He said that only the trains coming up the Canterbury line stop there. I should have asked him why but for some reason didn't!! Hope Deal Sainsbury's was a pleasant experience 😊😊
