Best series for EG yet, I'm a superfan!
Thank you! Could you do an Engine thruster for the next one? It would be amazing!
That sounds interesting! I will try and add it to the list. Thanks for the suggestion.
I am glad this series exist because more people know the more they will use it, embergen doesn’t have much good tutorials, love the tutorial can’t wait for the clouds tutorials.
Fantastic tutorial
Yeahhhh❤loved it..
where can I find a tutorial that starts this process from scratch?
tornadoes should start from top to bottom why most tuts showing this the opposite way😢
Make it however you want!
Why chase storms when you can just make them instead?
So you can smell the storm.
THanks so much, this tutorial came just in time for a project I need to work on! Keep them coming <3
Great tutorial, thank you!
i am facing a issue when ever i take render of my simulation with including RGBA and later i composite that asset into after effects i see my asset is semi transparent i need the alpha channel thick white but i don't know how to achieve this Can anyone help me with this what exactly i need to do?
hey! so something quick-and-dirty that I always try first off, is to simply duplicate the layer holding the effect [as many times as you need], that can help thicken it up a lot - if you find you have harsh, dark edges around the semi-transparent parts, make sure you render out with straight alpha. hope that helps!
@@benharkervfxHey ! brother i am surprise to see ur comment as a reply just a week before i followed ur tutorial to make explosion in embergen i really like ur work it is very helpful for me. Thanks brother! yes i did the same thing duplicated the layers but i face Ram issue while compositing and its hard to composite and software start to get crash some how i managed it and also thanks for the black edges i will surely try out with straight Alpha next time.
Thanks for the tutorial 😊 ,is there a way i can export these particles to blender, and maintain their sizes if there are any?
Just checking out your software now, it looks really cool, thanks for making it a perpetual license with paid upgrades, that is a great way of making it available for smaller hobbyists and freelancers, not too many companies doing that these days.
What a great tutorial! I would love to see more like this since I plan on doing many destruction sims in Blender and bringing them into EmberGen for actual smoke sims! I would love to see you guys cover that kind of topic, here’s a topic maybe you guys can answer or cover in future videos in more detail! 1. How to import alembic destruction sims from Blender to EmberGen: - This would be the big one. I think I would make a character destroy a building, then I’m wondering what the approach would be to you guys for exporting my building sim, character, and camera all as albembics. Then using my fractured pieces to act as particle emitters and my character as a collider mesh. A lot of this has been covered in other videos through bits and pieces but I would love to see more of a complete beginning to end walkthrough. Not even focusing on the details and stuff but just the general workflow. Because after you get the sim working, it would be cool to see you render the sim from the exact camera directly in EmberGen (matching the lighting from the blender scene) and then using render techniques to only render the smoke and the particles separately and finally combining them all with the original render from Blender. I think there you guys can also cover how to composite certain render passes with our smoke like indirect and direct lighting or something to help improve the quality in post! Looking forward to future videos and great stuff all around!
Brilliant tutorial. Thank you.
Wow! I learned so many new techniques, thank you!
Embergen will not be taken seriously until it has some sort of sparse solver. It is real time only for cheap looking game like explosions, but for VFX production there is so much to be desired. Imported mesh handling is bad and unintuitive and very finnicky. The initial fascination of real time fluid solver fades quickly when you realize it would be much faster and with much better results to go Phoenix FD route or even the very complicated Houdini. For realistic results Embergen is no faster than Phoenix. It can be pretty slow actually.
Its coming and in the works. Thanks for the feedback :)
@@jangafx Ok Great. While you're at it just make the domain movable instead of adjusting imported geometry. So... when? This year? 2030? 2035?
@@doctorkj5640 Movable domain is coming next month. EmberGen 2.0, probably going to need to go through a time travelling wormhole in space to know the date on that.
@@jangafx OK. 2035 it is! Thanks for the answer.
how to mac use this app
You cant yet. It's planned though.
how do we export particles as well into UE is there a guide for it? thanks
beautiful
Thanks
Noise shape in mask shapes is not working for me, it does nothing, i tried changing values but is not affecting the torus. Why?
You need to then make sure you're changing the emission condition dropdown in the emission tab of the particle emitter. You can choose things like Emit inside shape, outside the shape, etc.
Ace tutorial. Thank you.
Wow, great shockwave, I love it! Thanks for Sharing!!
Well done!
Thank you

Great video. Thank you
Hi, I love the effect, is it possible to make a tutorial?
What do I do if I import a 120 frame video? How do I set the frame stride and time step figures?
can you do a car tyre bunout in embergen? and export to blender
Absolutely amazing video!!!! I have been asking for this EXACT workflow for like a year now and you guys answered all my questions! Great stuff. You have no idea how much this is gonna help people who can’t afford to set up renderfarm with massive VDB’s. Next best thing? Frame matching and rendering straight out of EmberGen and comping back into our og shots. The holdouts and everything make perfect sense! This is gonna be such an amazing tool and this video is gonna help people TREMENDOUSLY!!! I do have a couple ideas for either tutorials or videos you guys could possibly make that don’t have to be too long but would definitely help everybody out imo. 1. Importing Alembics: - I haven’t done this yet but I’m hoping this is something that’s possible? It could genuinely save so much more time and space when it comes to baking out our rigs since that’s just straight final mesh. 2. Importing Lights: - I don’t know if this is possible yet in EmberGen but one thing I think would be tremendous is importing lights! I would love to match my Blender light settings with EmberGen’s scene so that my comped results could look closer. This could involve setting a custom HDRI with the same coordinates, importing the sun lamp, and maybe even bringing in point and area lights. If there’s some tool that can convert them to embergens settings that could be cool. 3. Render Passes: - I would love to use this workflow you’ve mentioned in this video involving compositing. I think it would be amazing if we got a quick detailed video showing how to render out our Fire and Smoke to have complete control, how to render the emission passes and any that relate to them involving things like maybe shadow/AO passes, volume direct and indirect passes, any lighting passes, just what can give us the best kinds of control in the compositing stage to help make our results more believable! Here’s something to ponder over, but what if you could even render a Normals pass? Or some kind of density or depth pass? Could help in the comp stage a lot! But after you knocked it out of the park with this video I think this idea might be the next best part! 4. Underwater Scenes - This one might sound weird but Jason Key did an INCREDIBLE “underwater” scene where he simulated what looked like bubbles and cool effects giving the illusion of being underwater. Why not take this a step further? What if you made an underwater video just showing how to almost simulate massive scale water simulations and shading the smoke and it’s physics to look like water? GPU particles could come in handy there as well. Then there’s the underwater part that Jason did. How to simulate actually being underwater and having a character emit bubbles through masked sections of the character and whatnot. That’s all I got for now. You guys are killing it!!! I can’t wait to mess with this and GeoGen!!!
Excellent Video! This should be out early. I was struggling with a project few weeks back and had to render out “unnaturally” for my CG plate. There’s another issue I faced, embergen does not support camera with target. I had to create separate camera and use constraints to link it to the original camera - bake its animation on another and import it to get that shot working. A weird approach tbh.😢 Another thing you can add is possibility of linking simulation domain to mesh or something so it can move and follow the object.
is this gonna be the new houdini someday?
Now I just want to know how I can export this back to Blender via vdb!
Add VDB export node. Plug the import nodes transform pin into the transform pin of VDB node. And then follow one of the many import VDB into blender tutorials out there. Or check out our discord where we have some pinned shaders in the blender channel. That's it, really simple!
But you really shouldn't have to do this. If you're working on a 24 fps project, you should just be able to select that and everything should work out. And what's with the weird approach to scaling? Voxel sizes are displayed as meters but that means that a regular fires are dozens of meters tall and the default explosions hundreds of meters. You set your scaling correctly in your 3d package but then it's all wrong in Embergen and you have to reverse engineer what the "scale and center to fit" does when wanting to export your embergen VDBs back to your 3d app and it's just a tedious mess. Embergen is fast and produces great results and the quick visual feedback is awesome, but the lack of a proper workflow with other 3d apps makes it a headache.
We are well aware of all this and agree. For scaling, ignore EmberGen scaling. If you plug the import node transform pin into VDB nodes transform pin, we do ALL of the work for you.
I was searching this fps solution like week ago and you guys make this video! Thank you.
you can even download a copy and set it as your desktop background sir!
How easy are these to integrate into unreal engine game levels?
Highly depends on what you want. If you're looking for full on volumetrics, it's probably not going to happen since volumetrics are too big on disk and still have a high performance hit. If you're looking to put these on flipbooks, extremely easy. EmberGen is pretty much the defacto standard at this point for major game studios and creating these sorts of effects.
and this works for the clouds? I am getting started so this is one thing I was hoping to achieve...
Yep! You can totally make clouds with EmberGen.
@@jangafx I was curious if you could loop the clouds.. it seems like you can with the loop simulation!
how can i get this software? anyone help please
So I guess I can’t use this on a MacBook just windows or Linux ?
That is correct. We're working on a Mac version though. No ETA
Override FPS * Frame Stride = TimeStep
Can I get a pin on this lmao. Keep coming back
embergen is some next gen stuff, cant wait to publish few games and get my hands on that and make some next level games
really cool stuff
Every time I try importing my baked camera from Maya embergen closes, any idea why this may be?
I'd send the file to support @ jangafx.com and we can look into it. Sounds like the camera is being exported improperly though. Support will be able to give you good pointers :)
Thank you for this very complete tutorial. In blender, I made a simple animation in 24 fps: a sphere moves on the Z axis while accelerating (using the exponential interpolation mode). I export to fbx and load it into Embergen. I apply the rule: Override FPS * Frame Stride = TimeStep with override fps set to 24, frame Stride to 2 and timeStep to 48hz. The vdb is not synchronized with the animation under blender. I tried the same animation in 30 fps under blender, with, under embergen, override fps set to 30, frame Stride to 2 and timeStep to 60hz. The vdb is still not synchronized with my original animation in Blender. What am I doing wrong? THANKS !
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I so excitated to make my dream game... This would be the tool
Breaking down real life examples is such a great idea!
wait so once the trial finishes does the simulation not work?
Once the trial finishes, you can learn for as long as you want and simulations still work. You just won't be able to export.
